McVay's Reaction to Cole Strange being drafted

What I find very interesting is that what I was told about the Rams looking long and hard at OG prospects to draft in the 3rd or 4th rounds has been validated. I was told OG, edge and to a lesser degree, CB were their main focus in that round. If the top guys in that cluster are gone they will trade down if possible for a 4th and hopefully 5th round pick. That probably is still the case. It shows that the Rams hope to fill that OG spot for the long term via the draft knowing that the guy will probably need a year to be coached up.

I think they expect to take Stout (punter) in the 5th.

Stafford Int To Obj Week 18 vs Whiners

Seemed to me some of those bad throws were cases of him being late on the throw snd just not able to get it there after his WR beat his guy.

Hopefully he improves his game management some more this yr...he seemed to get better as the season went along last yr. Even his INT in the end zone during the SB was at least on 3rd & long and not 3rd & 2.

Drove me nuts on some of those Hail Mary's when he threw them on 3rd and short in games where he had to sustain drives.

Can we expect any surprise/major moves by Les Snead and the Rams in the next few days?

I expect the unexpected now when it comes to Les Snead.

If I "expect the unexpected", is the "unexpected" still "unexpected"?

Or does it now become the"expected"? Thereby, making it "I expect the expected".

To which one would reply ...

What about...

The only thing is they cant push too much to next yrs cap because last I looked, OTC has the Rams with something like $25M of cap room next yr with only 38 players under contract. I think they are projecting a cap of $220M vs this yrs $208M.... And still need to sign OBJ.

So likely the cap won't get too much higher than that projection so next yrs cap situation will be worse.
Next year? We talking about next year? Carpe diem Ramily!! Carpe diem!!

Rams look for more late-round knockouts in NFL draft

The Rams have options to increase the number of draft picks, although trades appear the only way to make it happen. We may see Les move up and down at various spots, it should be fun to observe.
It’s become more fun for me to observe from a distance and just check my phone now and then while I do other things. My days of watching the draft after the first round are past. I can’t believe I ever spent that much time on it.

interview with Raheem

Is it me or does it seem like defensive coaches have the most conservative offenses? That just sticks in my head. And I'm sure I'm 100% wrong.
They do. Protect the ball at all costs! I don’t recall any defensive coaches with high flying, risk taking offenses. The most successful one may have been Belichick when Randy Moss was on the team. But it was still the same concepts with tons of short passes to runningbacks.

Which brings up another dilemma when hiring a defensive coordinator to be your head coach. If they get a good offensive coordinator that lights it up, they lose them the following year. A defensive coordinator would help himself out by being on the offensive staff for a few years.

OFFICIAL Rams 2022 NFL draft visits

Honestly it's kind of weird they didn't move Rapp. If the guy had been playing for Wade he might be looked at much differently. I get that teams know they can just draft one on the cheap every year, and that probably factors in here. But also I suspect the Rams still like Rapp's game. Nothing I can point to but I have this feeling they still think they can get high end play out of him.

They've been right plenty on shit like this too so I lump this one into the box that holds some other odd toys like past OL discussions, TE depth, etc.

Either way if they hit on a corner we're probably gonna have a top defense because AD boosts that rush a bit. Corner's a really big one they gotta get right. If they do that then I think they can get away with some shit.

"I know we feel we're going to come away with some players that will help us a lot sooner than later." --Sean McVay

IMO that could mean:

1. They are looking at an OG that can start at RG
2. A punter who is not a developmental type, i.e. Stout
3. An edge capable of playing in rotation as a situational rusher

These positions could be addressed in their first 3 rounds. If they don't take an edge then IMO they might be looking to trade for one either Hunter or someone like him.

The problem with DBs is that playing in the secondary is technique heavy and the only position they would be looking at is CB to play as a nickel or dime and a backup on the outside. Also, STs players are normally overlooked but their 6th and 7th round picks could be targeted there.

Terrell Lewis is maximizing opportunities, but more focused on the plays he should have made

I'm just hoping for Tyler Badie. If they don't get him, I'll be quite sad. :(

I think The Rams have a lot of confidence in T. Lewis. As well as
Garrett & Hollins.

As Mcvay stated about his long length.IMO being a twinner is not easy to find comfort without playing time.Injuries have played a bigger part, but Lewis is freak & has that Swagg that Mcvay likes. He has learned from some top players.
—Hollins is interesting player. He has excellent knowledge of The Rams D” & was going to be the main RDE/Edge.When Von took over he moved to different positions which shows diversity.
Garrett is another player that is intriguing from a pure pass rusher. He has that SKILL set. In Training Camp he wasn’t flashing, but at the End of the Preseason he looked Lights Out coming of the Edge. Didn’t get (only Player)Vaxed & came down with Covid. He got it pretty good & was best to keep him on the IR.

We’ll see what happens, but we know The Rams will bring in another OLB at some point next week.

What are the best value positions where we pick?

If we were to pick players based on the likelihood that they will not only make the team but could emerge (fairly quickly) as plus starters or impact players in key situations (and on special teams) then where does value meet a need?

I know many here would like to see us draft an Edge but I just do not see value where we pick. Is there really a prospect who will challenge to play ahead of what we have on the roster?

These below positions are where need and value should meet but please argue otherwise or for better prospects that you prefer:

1. Cornerbacks - This draft is stacked with enough quality prospects that a potential future starter should be available when we pick first

I am impressed by the following SRs who have played a ton of snaps and all looked great during the senior bowl (which we know the Rams value highly)

Zyon McCollum (Sam Houston) 6-2 199; Joshua Williams (Fayetteville State) 6-3 195; & Coby Bryant (Cincinnati) 6-1 199

One of the above should be available around where we pick (we might need to trade up depending on whether there is a run)

2. Guards - The draft is stacked with Sr OL, who play with power, have plenty of experience (and solid technique), including plenty who might usefully transition inside

Here are three potential guards, all of who may be available when we pick in round 4 and one of whom might be available in round 5. They each fit our scheme and could become instant starters depending on how they transition

Logan Bruss (Wisconsin); Justin Shaffer (Georgia) and Zachary Thomas (San Diego State)

3. TE/H-backs - The draft is loaded with prospects who should be available in rounds 5 through 7

This draft is deep, seriously deep, and I know that many of you have TEs in your mocks. I believe a few will come off the board before we pick but that the true value lies through rounds 5, 6 and 7. It would not surprise me in the least if the best TE in this class eventually emerges from later in the draft...

Who do you like?

There are even two FB prospects that look like they might garner late-round picks in Zander Horvath (Purdue) and Connor Heyward (Michigan State)

Horvath is being compared to another alumnus, Mike Alstott, and could emerge as a pro-bowl talent

4. Punter

I know, give me a break right! That said Jordan Stout (Penn State) and Matt Araiza (San Diego State) look awesome and can both flip the field

Don't want to draft one? Jake Camarda (Georgia) and Ryan Wright (Tulane) are plenty talented and should be UDFAs

I do not see us drafting: DT (they take a long time to develop and we would be better resigning our own); or LB unless we now place a high value on ILB (if so, there are some intriguing prospects but I am not sure they will be available later and so decided the position doesn't meet need and value); or WR for obvious reasons (we have too many already) but we probably will anyway :-) or DE (though this might be something we look at addressing after the draft through FA - Morgan Fox?)

I am looking forward to the draft and excited to see who we come away with
