What if......

What if the Rams put off getting an edge this year? They can move AD to DE where he has played off and on. Then Snead goes out and makes a splash signing of DeForest Buckner to play 3T and as AD's replacement when he retires in 2024. Technically he's under contract this year and next year but they don't have any guaranteed money. The Rams could take that $40M guarantee it and extend that contract for 4 more years.

Buckner is a true 3T and racked up 9 sacks on a poor defense. Paired with Gaines the Rams would continue to have one of the best interior DLs. It will be very hard to double AD outside. They can worry about the DE position in 2024. This gives them a year to see what they have in Hardy. If Daniel can bulk up with muscle while retaining his speed and quickness, he has the athletic talent to be a very good edge. He should train with AD. Buckner will be 29 in March but he's probably going to play well into his 30s so he's worth at least one more 4 year contract.

The Rams will have AD for one more year. Why not make the most of it?

Just re-watched the Bronco game…

I don't think anyone can disagree with your take on how the Rams allocate resources and what positions they value. By "luck" I just meant they hope those less invested-in still pan out and can get the job done, with great coaching, etc. It has usually worked out, but other seasons hasn't. To your other point about LTs: Whit got paid, and those guys (I forget the team) went to a couple SBs, and even won one.:laugh1: I think you need lots of luck to have an entire starting OL of jags generate wins, especially with what happened to Stafford this season--that needs urgent attention imo.
Not a couple of Superbowls. One. Jake Matthews with Atlanta in 2016. Zero have won it.

Here's a list of the LT's who played LT for the last 10 SB Champs....and their salary that year.
2021 Whitworth / 4 mil
2020 Donovan Smith / 14.5 mil

2019 Cam Erving / 1.4 mil
2018 Trent Brown / 1.9 mil (his only season at LT)
2017 Halapoulivaati Vaitai / 0.54 mil (he's an OG who played LT in the SB)
2016 Nate Solder / 6.0 mil
2015 Ryan Harris / 0.87 mil (played 9 years, started 16 games at LT)
2014 Nate Solder / 0.79 mil
2013 Russell Okung / 7.0 mil
2012 Bryant McKinnie / 1.8 mil

I'm not seeing these expensive franchise LT's winning the SB. Whitworth? Sure. Donovan Smith? Yeah. Okung? Okay. The rest?

I'm not saying having a franchise LT is dumb, but you need other guys with talent on the OL.....and continuity. On the other hand, not having a franchise LT doesn't prevent you from winning the SB....IF you have a "solid" OL and continuity.

Fear and Loathing: Who is the Best Team in the NFC?

If Hurts is healthy… The Eagles then the 49’ers in the NFC. The Eagles have good balance.

That said…. The 49’ers D is extra nasty. That makes them a tough out. I don’t trust Purdy as tape piles up, but he has looked good so far.

If forced to pick… I pick the 49’ers and it sucks to say.

In the AFC… I like KC.

The NFL is crazy… It could be anyone at this point.

The whiners defense is awesome, against the Rams and teams without mobile quarterbacks. Mahomes took them apart in the super bowl and he did it this season also. Jalen Hurts if healthy and that brutal Eagles O-line will match up well. If the whiners fall behind and rat girl can't play conservative ball, he will fail like he always does.

Even if the whiners survive the NFC gauntlet, I doubt they beat the AFC winner. Truth be told, I doubt that the Rams would have fared well in this year's playoffs. I think the stars were aligned our way last season, IMO.

The problem is that nobody has put pressure on Purdy because he's never trailed by double digits. He is like a slightly better version of grabmypole, IMO. Of course, if their defense becomes like the 2000 ravens or the 2002 Bucs, then the defense could carry them all the way. I hope not.

YouTube TV completes deal for NFL Sunday Ticket

That makes my point.

the NFL sought ubiquity and Apple has a history of charging exorbitant fees and prices and maintaining closed systems.

Apple runs best (and sometimes only) on Apple products. YouTube runs on literally everything... I can stream it on my fridge... Honestly it's refreshing they didn't take the Apple money... I don't get ESPN anymore cuz I don't have cable... This move will at least let everyone have a shot at getting the NFL... I mean remember when the NFL head offices in NYC couldn't get Sunday Ticket for years?

I don't think getting $2.5B for Sunday Ticket is settling especially when with YouTube’s international reach, the International markets can be approached with a much lower cost
Apple was close to 3 billion per year, they bailed, Youtube allegedly at 2 billion per year
That is what is referred to as a "Shit Ton" of money lost

Coaching, GM Leadership and Owners with Deep Pockets...

Yeah I am so impressed by his play. Part of what is working so well for him too is a lot of OTs nowadays seem to be going that cardio approach, and prioritizing stoppage of speed rushers. So power is really working. Hoecht has that power for sure. Question is can he keep developing on the contain.

Guy like him has zero room for error there. He has to see what is coming and anticipate it via film study and awareness. I mean most backfield types get moving in his direction even one step early it's over for him. But I'm rooting for him of course, really hope he can keep doing it even though I figure he looks like Floyd's replacement as he fits better strong side.
I can certainly see him getting snaps in a rotational pass rush role.
But, maybe he can develop into a solid edge overall.
He is 300 or more pounds right now....the common thought process would be for him lose weight to sort of fit the normal edge body type.
I don't really agree with this. We could see him lose a few lbs to help with some quickness but, and I agree with you, I don't want him to lose strength. Also, losing a lot of weight....going from 300 to 265 or something....often leads to lose of strength and can cause other issues in terms of movement and athleticism.
I could see him playing at 285 or 290 to maintain his power and maybe pick up a little quickness.
Regardless of the opponent 7 pressures is no joke....I am really, really looking forward to watching him these last two weeks.
