Camp Photos and report Aug 1, 2023

I read that Morris and the other coaches were just as frustrated as we were with the easy pitch and catch cushions they allowed last year.
LOL I think it had more to do with all the uber soft coverages he called. When you line your CBs 10 yds off the LOS what do you expect?

With all the cross training and rotation they are doing like has been mentioned, it's going to take the OL time to gell as a unit. They should have cleared everything up in OTAs and been starting their projected starting OL now to give them time to learn to play as a unit. This is especially true with a bunch of rookies and 2nd year guys. But they have time yet and I think next week they will have decided who is the starter and who isn't.

It's clear from many of the reports and the photos that Noteboom is clearly rusty. So if Jackson isn't the clear winner you have to wonder. Regardless, this OL will be good if they can stay healthy. The only concerning thing I've heard is how poor the overall conditioning has been. They have a month to get that rectified. Time to run these guys at the close of each practice. That will show the coaches who really needs work.

Thanks for the pics and observations! Much appreciated!

Gonna share my personal perceptions of Rams position groups after week 1 of camp…

I think the offense will be REALLY good....top 10, possibly top 5.

Agreed with the pass rush and DBs....the only thing I'd note is this:

If the AD effect kicks in and raises the level of everyone around him, which in turn makes our pass rush above average - that's how we are contenders and surprise the hell out of everyone
All comes down to OL play and scheme execution

Aaron Donald On Mentoring Young Players & Expectations For 2023 | Inside Rams Camp

He certainly looks ready to roll.
He is a player whose career we will look back on like former Rams' greats. Merlin Olsen, Jack Youngblood, Eric Dickerson, Isaac Bruce, Jackie Slater, Torry Holt and a few others are the greatest players in Rams history. I feared a few years ago that the Rams might trade him or that we'd lose to FA, which is common in this era, but no, Aaron Donald will retire as a pivotal, all-time Rams' icon. As much as I love the other guys I listed, AD is the best of them all, imo. It has been a privilege to watch him in horns for all of these years.

Rams RB Sony Michel retiring after five NFL seasons

Freeman is the epitome of a backup RB. Decent size, decent speed, decent hands as a receiver but has never put it all together. That said how much is the scheme and OL to blame? Hard to say. But with Akers, Williams, and Evans ahead of him and yes I put Evans ahead of him, he's going to have to earn his chops on STs. Akers and Evans will carry the load and Williams looks to be a decent rotational RB.

Sorry to see Sony leave but he has nothing to prove anymore and with his rings he can retire on a decent career. He was a good RB and a solid teammate, what more can you say? Freeman comes in with no real expectations so no pressure on him. The Rams are 3 deep at RB which is solid going into the season.

Rams: 3 biggest training camp battles to watch ahead of 2023 NFL season

Geez look at his contract. For all intentions he basically is. His base jumps by $5.5M, his cap hit jumps to $14.7M for a 32 year old RT whose play is in decline. His run blocking sucks and he can't stop an edge with both power and speed. Do you honestly think and are willing to say they will not release him when his cap hit jumps by $5M to $14.7M?

They could play Jackson, Thomas or Bruss at RT and they would be an upgrade. The best attribute for Havenstein is he's durable. But he's hardly a top RT in his play. Can you say with a straight face that Havenstein is a better OT than Jackson who probably would play for less than half of what they would have to pay Rob? Hell they were even trying Bruss at RT. Bruss was a very good OT in college.
Man! When you get a boner for someone, you really obsess. I'm sure they're playing big Rob just to piss you off. Certainly they can see how bad he sucks. They're just doing it to spite you all these years.

Tanner Brown 52 Yard FG vs TCU.

He wasn't made an offer. During the season I pointed out how Morris kept shifting Gaines to 0T which is not his forte. Then they draft Bobby Brown a 0T NT and sign Murchison a poor man's Gaines as a rotational passing down 1T NT. Morris insists on playing a 0T NT early down front in a Fangio style mixed DL. They weren't going to extend Gaines only to make him a 2 down player.

The evidence is in what the Rams did in the draft to accomodate Morris.

Back to Brown, the Rams have told him accuracy on FGs of 50 yards and under is more important than longer range. He needs to be money from 50 yds in. In that regard they got a good PK. If they want long distance they can always try Ethan Evans who can even handle kickoffs.

Perhaps I'm wrong on this cause I can't find Jourdan's reporting but I believe she stated that Rams made Gaines a low ball offer.
(Anyone help on this?)

They seemed to want to keep him but only at their low price.

5 Rams-related Things I've never seen, but would like to.

Rams played in Dallas on Thanksgiving in 1971. How could you not remember!!!

Seriously, it's a painful memory for me. I was eleven, and we went to aunt Midge and uncle Frank's house for the annual family get together. It was the first time I saw my Rams in color. Most TVs back then were still black-and-white. The Rams wore their blue uniforms. Back then, all NFL teams wore their colors at home; and their white uniforms on the road ... with two exceptions ... the Rams and Cowboys who wore white at home. The Rams could play an entire season, and only wear white.

So excited. Sat on the floor in front of the TV. SO EXCITED!
Dallas returned the opening kick-off for a TD. SO DISAPPOINTED!

Rams led at halftime but Dallas took the lead in the 2nd half. Rams tied the score but Dallas had the only points in the fourth quarter.

The antipasto, lasagna and turkey were delicious.

There's actually a ten-minute highlight-clip on Youtube. I recommend watching it with a plate of lasagna.

Roman Gabriel handing-off to Les Josephson.
That's Dallas LB Chuck Howley who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in ten days. Howley remains the only Super Bowl MVP that played on the losing team (Super Bowl V).
My dislike of the Cowboys started early in life.

Moving on from Ramsey, Wagner and Floyd about more than just money?

This is crazy timing:

Local sports radio here this morning was saying it will probably (most realisticly) be December as far as Ramsey getting back on the field in a game. Everyone is speculating though. They also said it is a real possibility that his season could be completely over.

Crazy

Byron Young & Nick Hampton

So far he's been pretty much flying under the radar. But Camryn reported what I saw in Young's measurables before the draft. I was absolutely elated when they grabbed him as I honestly didn't think he would fall that far. Camryn mentioned how Byron's measurables are comparable to K. Mack and they are. But even more when you look at his work ethic and how coachable he is, I don't see how he won't be a very good perhaps elite edge for years to come. People tended to discount Floyd when he signed, but I could tell from his film he was going to be a damn good edge in the right system and on the right team. Yes this year he should benefit from the "Donald" effect. But he still needs to be good for that to be true. After AD retires probably after next year, Young will still be a true weapon coming off the edge for the Rams. He's got the talent to become a complete edge who can set a hard edge and drop into coverage when asked

As much as I like Hoecht and I've liked him since he was a rookie, he's going to really have to flash to hold off Hampton who is also a legit talent playing edge. I think Hampton has the talent to be a complete edge as well. He doesn't have the elite speed that Young has but hes got good speed for the position (4.58).

With the kind of speed these two guys can bring they would give the Rams bookend edges. Now add in Donald and Murchison the Rams will have a good 4 man pass rush allowing the Rams to play coverage on the back end.

Did the Rams/Demoff lie about Stafford, and does it really matter?

The RAMS FRANCHISE is FIRST CLASS!! Back in the Day(UCI),I pissed Jevin Demoff off so bad he wanted to (—-)me.
—LMAO - I deserved it. Last season I think what I was saying was right. It goes back to Higbee’s 3rd season & Gerald Everett’s 2nd.Think Johnny Mundt’s first season??
—He was on the Far sideline on main scrimmage field. The TE’s were hurt & Higbee was missing everything in practice.Johnny Mundt was hurt.Everett was hurt again in training camp.
I got a little upset at all this & started Yelling at him.The practice field was totally different & Demoff lives Ram Fans!! He allowed (us)to be up close.
Long story short I caught his nerve. He got so pissed he started to head for me.I swear I got afraid. You could see it in his eyes. I’m saying this because he LOVES The Rams so much.
I believe one year he had a secerity guard just for me. Lol.Nit that I(us Ram Fans) get out of control. He always BEER!! There are V.I.P’s everywhere NOW!!
—The KIDS are looked after & they bring groups from LA.
Me as a Fan am able to cheer & heckle if I want to!! I DO!!!
I believe Mcvay broke up (stopped)a play because of me.He got Joesph Noteboom to get out of a stance.Had him & that DE (Chris Garrett)locked in.Still wish I saw that one(red zone) live in pads.

We tried to dump Stafford?

Hopefully this tweet puts to rest this issue entirely. Training camp is almost here; it's time to move on.

~ArkyRamsFan~
Excuse me for my skepticism, but after watching how the Rams have treated other players given big contracts, I translate all this as follows:

(1) Rams couldn't trade Stafford.

(2) Stafford wouldn't restructure.

(3) Since the Rams then had no realistic choice but to pay Stafford the $59m due, now Stafford has a "vote of confidence" for "at least a year."

Remember when Goff was our QB "for now"?

Superconductor Breakthrough?

Superconductors buckle me up indeed! But I still can't get over this guys excellent job of talking about people lying in science especially the lady who's the "professor of honesty" who lied :D Wait scientists lied to us? You don't say :D

But yeah we're due for a surge forward in this likely leading to cold fusion energy and another leap forward for humanity, if we can survive that long.
