At TE, I think there is an emphasis issue in developing them given how addicted to 11 personnel McVay has become. It seems that Higs is sort of the binky he runs back to at that position, it's his path of least resistance.

OL is the one that bugs me the most, because Avila seems to be the only one they've really got a solid hit on so far. And although TuTu has redeemed himself somewhat, Creed still would have been nice. Imagine Avila lined up next to him.

This is true but once again both Kupp and Puka in skill set are underneath types not gamebreakers who will stretch the field. McVay has a type in terms of passing game weapons and he's done well at finding that type but not so well in finding speed to complement them.

Same deal with RB. And not only has he struggled to draft them but they've wasted time and allowed themselves to rely on guys who they should have realized quicker were not good enough.

TE is a bit more complicated, in that Kupp basically is a pass game TE in his strengths. But that said they've taken shots on guys and haven't been able to replace a mediocre TE in Higs. Nothing against Higs of course but let's be honest he's nothing special.

Even though we had a great regular season and had a better regular season record than the Cowgirls, we had to travel to Dallas and lost to them....one and done after being hyped as a Super Bowl favorite. I actually saw the Browns @ Rams for my first Rams game ever and we won. The next week we were out.

Yes ... kind of goes to my original point that other than the Super Bowl Champions, everyone is miserable.

BUT

The playoff loss was a huge disappointment. I was so frustrated, I said something disrespectful to father.
The ONLY TIME in my entire life; and I am still ashamed of it.

That being said, the 1973 Season was amazing from September through December.
After not making the playoffs the prior three years, and coming-off a sub-.500-year, the Rams were going with their third head coach in a little over two years; and thirteen-year-old me had never heard of Chuck Knox.

Adding to my anxiety and misery was the trade of my favorite Ram (Roman Gabriel), plus the player I thought was their best defensive player (Coy Bacon) and a bunch of new starters on both sides of the ball (some were young guys who had barely played (Hacksaw, Geddes, Brooks, McCutcheon), veterans I knew little about (Stukes, Williams, Jackson, Preece) and some bald-headed-loser at Quarterback named John Hadl.

I have posted numerous times since the off-season that I did not think the 2023 Rams had nearly enough talent to be a good team but I prayed to be completely wrong.

I was completely wrong about the 1973 Rams ... and absolutely thrilled to be wrong. Great Season / Memories.

This season is about grading on a curve. If we win more than six games, our coaching staff will have done a hell of a job. The NFL is about talent first, the coaching. That said lots of promising rookies and reason for future success. In a year from now the talk will be about how the league has never seen a team reload so quickly. One down year is a small price to pay.

Forget worrying about wins and losses for the remainder of this season. It’s more about finding the foundational defensive pieces and establishing an offensive identity that the Rams can build on for a legitimate playoff run next year.

Better teams with better talent tend to pull ahead as time passes. Statistically speaking good/bad breaks tend to even out more over time and so better talent becomes the differentiator in the later part of the games. (except blatantly bad officiating).

I think our Rams have some good young and older talent to build around but they also have too many big holes for the good talent they do have to overcome.

It is starting to look like its all about next year and beyond. They didn't trade any assets before the deadline. Which is good. This year should be more like auditions for young guys to show they can be contributors down the road.

But I would like to see more wins than expected. 7 or 8 wins might keep us out of the top ten in the draft but that is what a young team needs to build confidence that they can pull out wins instead of losing games that were winnable. Going 2-6 over the last 8 games will do more to damage the confidence.

I'm still pissed at Kendrick. Secondary was playing well as a group prior to his arrest. Wasn't perfect but they were doing a good job limiting QBs which is the most important element in winning defense. Since that time they have shit the bed vs even poor QBs.

So as it pertains to Morris the one thing he has to get right for this second half is sorting that back end. Looks like Kendrick is being phased out, not sure if that continues but whoever they go with need to be able to make QBs hold the ball.

Lake is really interesting. I don't know that he can continue to do well in this role. Feels like they should have Tomlinson out there in the slot (I've accepted Spoon's gonna finish the season out for us), and I'd like to see Lake playing over either Fuller or Yeast, but that might not happen while we're still trying to win games. But there is a lot of value in seeing what he can do back there. Yeast has been better than I expected but the guy does not have great instincts in the pass game for that deep role. Fuller is gonna leave in FA. Lake should be taking one of those two jobs back there I think.

We need Jones back. Those guys were overrun without him. Defensive front as a whole is already light I think, without Jones it doesn't feel like we have enough physicality up the middle.

Jackson's play at LT has dipped. Unfortunately Hav who is an iron man got hurt, not sure when he gets back but I think it is healthy for Jackson to have Boom sitting behind him on the depth chart. So I'm thinking Hav is a key piece for us from that perspective, plus he's the anchor of this group on the leadership side.

OL has some much easier games ahead but also a few tough ones mixed in. Hoping they get on a roll after the bye. If not then park Stafford, feature Wentz, and see how high we can get that pick.

Are we seriously talking about changing the throwing mechanics of a player who has gotten this far on his current throwing style? That is a difficult task.

There’s tweaking and there’s starting over. The latter never works. Should an evaluation determine he just won’t be effective at the next level with his current technique, maybe we’re seeing the best penix has to offer and the Rams should move on to another prospect. Let 9ers or the cheatriots draft him.
