I hated to see Nick Scott go. He did a terrific job in the playoff games leading up to the Super Bowl. You don’t see his kind of hitting very often. Will forever be grateful for his hit on Deebo. Seemed like he could have been a good pillar in the defensive back end. Oh well…still trusting.

Well Fuller was The Man before that that helped The Rams get to the Superbowl.
Everyone wants to talk about Staley,but if you look at Fullers his rookie season then you might appreciate what he did.
—Eric Weedle help mold Nick Scott from his rookie season.When Weedle came back to The Rams he sort of recharged him & aloud him to play fast because of their relationship.
- I think those points get overlooked.I don’t know why Nick Scott wasn’t resigned,but this Russ Yeast kid might be pretty good. Really like Jason Taylor as well.
It was SURPRISING how little Nick Scott signed for.

Just been seeing it since Weddle got brought back into discussions recently.
Seems disrespectful to me.

Even if we were contending again this year, our model doesn't give safeties a second contract. Nick would have been gone no matter what. Good safety but replaceable.

Will be fun to see some of these new safeties duke it out in camp.
 
The Rams are 4 deep at safety right now and playing in Morris' quarters or two deep shell Scott really didn't fit. Scott reminds me of Rodney Harrison. He could play in a primarily man coverage single high scheme very easily. Scott has speed and is a true enforcer on the back end. Morris doesn't want that he wants to play soft and comfy.

If that is the case (and it may be so), then Why have they used premium draft choices on the position?

John Johnson in the 3rd round in 2017; and Taylor Rapp in the 2nd round in 2019.

I mean, draft picks aren't 2nd contracts... but I suspect you're saying that if the position is undervalued then why spend a pick in the 1-3 rounds on them. And an additional piece here is these picks were picked during Philips tenure and this sxs we're in now devalues them more (also, the front office too).

When I say "devalue" one of the pieces here is that we are generally not looking for a center fielder type which is a harder safety to find. We can get away with less talented safeties in general cause of how much we align with our safeties at depth and split.

I’m just frustrated that so few Rams have gotten second contracts.

From the 2017-2019 Drafts, the Rams selected 27 players. Only three were signed to second contracts; and that includes Brian Allen and Joe Noteboom, whom many Rans' fans wish had not been re-signed.

In some cases, 2nd contracts were not earned; and that suggests poor drafting.

In other cases, there wasn’t enough cap space available (or Management didn’t deem some players worthy of allocating more cap $); and that suggests poor management.

Good teams lose good players in free agency because the bad teams can afford to over-pay. The Rams did not lose stars but they have lost a lot of good players (my opinion); and most did not get huge contracts.

One-Third of the Rams' 2023 Cap is Dead-$ ($74M). That's a lot! Only three other teams in the NFL are over $37M (half the Rams' #). Now the Rams have tried to maximize their 2024 cap space ... and that's good ... but according to Over-the-Cap, their projected 2024 cap space is still just in the middle-of-the-pack.
