I like his game, but it's a lot easier to be that guy in college than the NFL. I'll be happy if Bech is a Ram in a few months. But if we're taking him with our first pick, I'd rather risk a trade down into the 2nd. Of course, this is all dependent on the Combine. If he goes out and tests well, he'll move up the board. If he doesn't run well, I expect he'll end up a 3rd round pick. And personally, I think he'll run in the 4.55 to 4.65 range.

That has always tickled me. And I've been guilty of it myself over the years. A good or poor 40 time can change the perspectives of many.

Yeah, people care, and it's hard not to fall prey to it from time to time. I try to use it more to either confirm what I'm seeing or prompt me to take (another) look at a guy. With Bech, I think he's quicker than fast, which is fine. But I also don't think he has elite quicks, like Kupp did. Still, size, physicality, and strength can make up for that. My greater point here is that I like Bech, but I don't think he's a first round talent.

I guess we see them differently.

I see Bech with the ability to play outside and beat NFL CBs like Nacua and with those two being interchangeable lining up all over the formation being a boon.

Fannin? I question his ability to beat NFL CBs given his change of direction.
Fanin has got penguin feet. I think it hurts his agility and speed. I’m not high on him and have seen third round projections so far.

I'm not a PFF guy. But to answer your question, I think we need someone who can take the top off a defense and stretch the field a bit more. Bech doesn't seem to be that player. I think McVay is also hinting about the fact that we don't have enough variation in our offense. To me, that translates to him saying that we don't have any real game breakers to open up the offense. We need more big play ability.
I mostly agree. But for those that say, "get someone to take the top of the defense" is easier said then done. They've had Atwell who can do it and I have also seen Robinson get deep behind the defense, but they're not utilized much.
IMO, if they get a couple of defenders in Free Agency (CB, LB), I think they could go with Bech in the 3rd round and maybe another like Jaylin Noel (Iowa St) maybe in the 4th or 5th round. He's got 4.40/40 speed and a very high average yard per target ; he has deceptive speed. And, at 200 lbs, could be used outside and in the slot.

That caused me some pause too, but after watching him closely, I'm not concerned about it.

I'm a big fan of Noel. Think he goes in the 3rd after a strong Senior Bowl week if he has a good Combine.

I agree. Mainly I’m after a high impact player with a 1st rounder. Be it an X with size and speed, a RB with home run ability, edge, OT, etc.

Bech doesn’t do it for me in the 1st. 3rd? I’d be down for that.

Although, I'm not sure how McVay will feel about him because he's not a good blocker.

Agree with the RB with home run ability. Case in point, there are 2 players that I think really elevate the Lions ; J Gibbs (RB) and Brian Branch (S). Gibbs is so dynamic as a runner and a pass catcher. And, Branch brings so much versatility to their coverage.
I mocked Brashard Smith (RB) to the Rams in my latest draft. A converted WR with 4.40 speed. I think he could bring that similar dimension to the Rams offense. He would be a match up problem for defenses.

And, agree with Bech not going in the 1st... I had the Rams taking him in the 3rd.

It’s the same as we already have in kupp, Whittington and puka we need something different

Maybe I could too if my assumptions are correct regarding the players that you are considering and I disregard that some of the players on your list haven't played since an injury.

I took a lot of heat on this board for wanting Gibbs in the 2nd round. But, Yes, Gibbs was viewed as a 1st round pick via draftnik media. A late 1st round pick. Even he was shocked he was selected so high.

At the bottom of the 1st round, chances are that you have a hodge-podge group of players with similar grades. I would hate for anyone in the Rams draft room to pass on a guy believing that he is a 2nd round talent if they don't have 32 1st round grades and the 2nd round is a mere 7 picks away.
You weren't the only one wanting Gibbs. I was also in that group since he showed he had elite speed and acceleration. I was hoping he'd fall to the 2nd and we somehow picked him up.

So what?
Point was that he wasn’t considered a 1st round talent, wasn’t drafted in 1st round and was a stud.
The point is no way that guy warrants a first and Mcvay changing offense no need for a bunch of slot receivers they need a x reciver puka and Whittington got the slot

lol. Not a fan of proper context, are you?

The more I think about the receiver situation, the more I think a guy like Bech makes sense.

With two years of Stafford they will need instant production from a receiver that is already closed to a finished product. When it comes to route running and getting open Bech fits that mold.

Just read 3 mocks having us take him in the 6th
