Again, I trust the Rams brain trust if they feel the potential is there, it just that when I think of guys dominating I expect to see them make some plays. I mean, McCarthy did complete 7 of 8 passes and ran for 40+ yards on 8 carries, including being sacked by someone other than Chop. Sure the tape shows the potential that we talk about, but lacks the results

If the Rams do trade back you cannot count in Chop being there. There is a lot of speculation that Miami lurking at 21 is looking for edge and I have read they have Robinson in their sites at 21, (assuming the Rams pass/trade back). Someone is going to a gamble on his athleticism. If the Rams are the ones I will root like crazy for him to succeed. I do really like his athleticism but, like many, the lack of production has me concerned too. I like that the Rams actually met with him. I think their character assessment will be a deciding factor if he is the selection. They really want guys who are all in on football and that worked very well for them last year. If you combine a strong football character with his physical traits he should develop into a top tier pas rusher.

Asking why his production wasn’t great and questioning the ‘real’ reason that Chop’s snaps were limited are not the same thing.

Plus. I think you have it backwards. Good runningbacks say they need a certain number of carries to really get going. It would be the same for any player. They need the reps. They want to stay in the game longer. In the playoffs some of ADs best work was at the end of games.

What Diaz did with rotating players worked well in college, especially on a defense loaded with very athletic players. PSU used the low mileage as a recruiting tool as well. But I don’t think it truly allows the stars to shine or develop. In a way it likely hurt their draft position. Chip is a prime example.

On the other hand, it may have been the best strategy for a roster to compete with a recruiting powerhouse like Ohio State. PSU is outmanned talent wise so they keep throwing different looks from fresh players at Ohio State in hopes of competing. It seems to work because OSU only beat PSU by 8 points.

Pressures are a better stat than sacks maybe?

I dont see anyone talking pressure rate for Verse or Latu, I wonder why?

I have posted the win rate of them and many others DT and Edges both.

I don't know if Chop succeeds in the NFL any more than I do the other Edges likely to go in the first. I'll leave that to you, but I don't think his lack of sacks is a predictor of future success or lack of it.

In the end if the Rams want him and take him at 19 I'm OK with it, he's not my first choice but they know better than me. He very well could be among the half of players drafted that don't work out.

Agreed that sacks are so variable. Many analytics people, and I've heard PFF say this for sure, say that pressure rate is more predictive of future performance than sacks are.

I agree on Young. I didn't see many sacks that he created.

It's been discussed quite a bit. My guess is you don't like it as a stat and probably don't subscribe to the sources that talk about it and/or dismiss it when it is brought up.

But it's talked about and it's been talked about on this board.

Yeah we went old in last year’s draft. Then again, Turner was very young. So is there a trend here (Turner rare exception) or was it just a random occurrence? Maybe we’ll know in 4-5 days.

I want Latu or Newton, anything else sucks! Ok I'm just amped about the draft. I just hope whoever we get turns out to be a stud. I want 2 Puka and 2 Turner
picks this draft. I don't think that's too much to ask hahaha

Absolutely, if you trade back, you better have a traunch of players you like. Otherwise just take your guy.

Love the enthusiasm!

I think it would be statistically nigh impossible to have as much success as we had in last years draft. That draft may well end up being a best of decade draft for us if everyone stays healthy.

If we come out of the draft with a plus starter and two other starters in the draft I'll be doing backflips (not including specialists). Even a plus starter and another starter with a number of significant role players would be a win too.

So let me rephrase. Pressure rate has been discussed quite a bit even in regard to Latu and Verse. You not having seen it or heard it simply means you're not in the rooms where this type of thing is discussed.
