Why can’t we generate any pressure?

With Donald being doubled 90% of the time either Brockers, Suh or Fowler should have an easier time getting to the QB-what is the reason we can’t? Are these guys just not good enough? Is it scheme? Is Wade playing it too safe? The Eagles and Bears beat us with their defense and generated pressure with their front 4 and occasional blitzes-which caused timely turnovers and sacks. Game changing plays which we need to start making more of on defense. IMO thats why our secondary looks terrible sometimes because the QB has all day to throw when AD is contained. Wade has to get more creative with this D. I know our LBs are the weak link esp on rush D and coverage then why don’t we blitz them more? Is Wade playing it too safe?

Rams tried to microwave their defense with vet additions and struck out. Peters came available for a reason. Suh was on the market for a reason. Fowler was available at the deadline for a reason. Only guy who worked out thus far was Talib and he has missed most of the season with that injury.

Wade is known for keeping things simple from teaching to scheme to allow players to play fast. But the dude can't rush, he can't tackle, and he can't catch the ball. Truth is Snead loaded this defense with NAMES. And now the guy who might end up paying the price is the coach, who looks like he can't do his job.

Hopefully the Rams will go get him a few more pieces this offseason. And quit giving away draft picks for over the hill veterans who are more names than players.

I don't think any of these three are top tier players, but idk what you're trying to say here. Suh is really the only one that has dissapointed and even then he's made some plays. Peters has been a lot better since Talib came back.

I do think they need to send more pressure though.

We added or kept multiple veteran pieces who aren't worth what they're being paid, or who aren't as good as hoped. We missed badly in FA on defense and the trade of Fowler is dangerous because he's a FA so Les Snead has his work cut out this offseason.

There is still room for Fowler to help us. But looking at it objectively we have given up cap space and/or draft capital without much to show for it. This staff needs young and coachable talent to work with next year IMO.

Everyone of those guys on defense deserve equal shares of credit. We always seem to have at least one guy fucking up. Foles lets a duck fly while Suh is in his face. It is up in the are for like 5 seconds and because Talib and Peters were eyeballing something besides their responsibility and let their receivers get so far behind them, they couldn't get there in time to break up the pass. Other times Foles can cook breakfast back there while the DBs have the receivers smothered. There was a completion to talib's man where he is running away from his man with his eyes looking in the totally wrong direction while the ball is going over his head to the receiver. These are the types of plays sticking in my head. The ones where our defense looks like a middle school defense. And I think Wade is also a big part of the problem. Is there any other DC that has more film on him. His tendencies have got to be well documented. I don't know, I am just venting and rambling. Don't get me started on the offense LOL

All those guys had issues. For Suh it was effort and age. Peters was attitude. Fowler underachieved in Jacksonville. Let's not act these guys were all super stars. Talib is even 32, no spring chicken. these guys may not have cost a ton in picks (though a second rounder and third rounder aren't nothing), but they ate up a lot of cap space.

Pretty much. And it backfired for the most part.

Good thing here is we don't need superstars at every position in this defense. We just need guys who will take coaching and do their damn jobs. Little more physicality at ILB. Little more contain consistency and burst off the edge at OLB. Little more ability to not get washed out of the play on the nose. And so on at safety and corner. We do have some pieces but getting rid of the guys who are the holes in the roster is the key.

Neither Suh, nor Brockers, are having ProBowl caliber years. But they aren’t as bad as some say. I think we hoped for more, but they still probably grade out above-average with respect to their assignments over the course of the year.

Our biggest problem on D is our Linebackers. They miss gap assignments, don’t contain the edge, can’t shed blockers, are slow to diagnose plays and react, miss tackles and can’t generate pressure. They show flashes but they are woefully inconsistent, and easily our biggest weakness.

Watching the middle of our defense makes me want to pull my hair out. Another reason why I’d like to try Kiser is because he’s good at blitzing.

If we’re gonna win in the playoffs, something has to change there, be it individual improvement or scheme/game plan adjustments.

AD also, I thought he was going to get called for hitting Foles but he hit him in the chest. Problem was both guys were so wide open they could stop and wait for that duck to come down.

Exactly. You get excited when he makes the throw because you know it's gonna be hanging up there. Then they show the wide view and you see an eagles wr so wide open nobody from the d is gonna make it to the ball. We thought these problems were gonna go away when talib came back.

Hopefully @-X- reads this and posts a still shot of the play where Sproles runs for 17 yards on 3rd and 4 . It was first or second drive in the first quarter. I'm sure Foles checked to the play the way the Rams were lined up . It was unreal

Right? I would love to see the all 22 on that play (or maybe I wouldn't). It looked like Talib broke off to cover an empty section of turf for whatever reason. How do these guys still not know where each other are this late in the season?? There was no safety over the top and this is what our CBs are doing?? W in the actual F?

Nope. I saw it too. Problem was Alshon Jeffery aka Gigantor just jumped up and got all those lobs.

Then Philly when rushing just ran away from the DL.

Plus the short fields didn't really help either after the fake punt attempt;t and the JoJo fumble.

When you have 11 guys consistently doing their jobs it's magic. But for now, yeah, it's been rough. Although tbh they have been improving a bit up front, which of course is relative to how bad they were before. :eek:

I saw Peters actually running away from the runner several times. It appeared he was waiting for someone else to dirty up their uniform to make a tackle. I came close to turning this game off when the Eagles went up 30-13 but I wanted to see if the Rams had any fight in them.

The Eagles hold the ball for 2 long drives at the beginning of the game really pisses me off. It's time to see some magic and at the beginning of the fucking game for a change. Our offense is struggling to get on track and it doesn't help that we get the ball for half of what the other team does. I want a nose tackle in the game to stop the run. Play with someone in the middle, not outside the guards. Get rid of Natson and bring in smart. Bench poor beat up Barron and bring in anybody else. You know what the definition of insanity is? Doing the same stupid ass thing that don't work over and over again and expecting a different result.
