i liked Wiseguy (ken wahl, jonathan banks jim byrnes) i liked how the stories didnt end in one episode . Hill Street Blues (Renko- Charles Haid) was good. Kolschak the Night Stalker was great (always get a kick out of watching A Christmas Story due to that show.) Magnum was good (the Lads). Rockford Files was probably the first show i watched on a weekly basis. always got a kick out of Isaac Hayes calling him "Rockfish". Equalizer was good due to the vigilante theme for people getting screwed over.

Come on, how can it be anything other than

Ok, wasnt really my favorite either....

Ok, Rockford Files was awesome, (Although technically @-X- it was a Firebird not a Trans Am)
But I'd go with Magnum PI myself, and it is sacrilege they re-made it
Although they werent actual cop/detective/pi, these two "righted many wrongs" and I would include
The Six Million Dollar Man
&
Quantum Leap

Ok but your hands over your mouth and say,Sheesh

1 Adam 12 lol

This isn't an actual show ... but when I look at Jags QB Gardner Minshew, he looks like a guy who should be the lead in a 70s/80's TV show where he plays a narcotics detective who's a bit fast and loose with the rules.

Then, of course, there are these detectives of a different sort, from one of my all-time favorite shows:

American PI shows?? there can be only one:

Adrian Monk. Watched all 8 seasons 3 times.

Next to him, in second place, the Mentalist, Patrick Jane. Watched all seasons 2 times, even knowing who the arch-villain was.

But... no TV show of ANY type compares to BBC's Sherlock w/ Benedict Cumberbatch. Outclasses every show I've ever seen.

Interchangable detectives for 20 years on Law and Order

That's so cringe to watch now! lol

I've noticed with a lot of those 90's and older shows there is a lot of weird cringey things that would never happen in real life. Amazed they were much of a hit when people watched the. Or maybe they thought thats how things really were? Always curious about the older audience and how they viewed things many years ago and even now.

Paul Drake, played by William Hopper, always complaining about greasy hamburgers while on stake outs for Perry Mason. Raymond Burr then went on to play a police detective called Ironside.

Tell me you don't mean True Detectives. Season one was great and shit turned sour quickly after
1st year was other-worldly. Never seen anything like it, before or since.

Season 2 OK to good, but I liked Season 3 a lot.

Imagine being the DA that kept going up against Perry Mason. Dude was like 2-158 against him.
No lie. Mason had a knack for making everyone confess on the stand within thirty minutes. Dude was a hella lawyer...
