I feel badly that you younger folks never tasted fresh milk in glass bottles. Cardboard cartons and plastic leaves a taste in the milk that you only recognize once you taste it again from ice cold glass bottles.

Speaking of glass bottles

remember those old Coke machines where you would pull out the Coke bottle from the front , , I think those old bottle were only like 10oz , but they were always on the brink off the freezing point

Ice cold Coke in the glass bottle , was tough to beat

Still is.

I mainly drink Coke Zero nowadays, but if I see original Coke in a glass bottle and served ice cold, I occasionally have one for old times’ sake.

I'm lactose intolerant. Only dairy I can really have is cheese and ice cream.

Unless is was a long necked Dr Pepper!

The toughest generation ought to drink it straight out of the cow's teat! Wuss.
That generation was a couple before mine, ya young-un! Seriously Angry if you get the chance to drink milk out of a glass bottle container, you'll give up Boones Farm Apple forever!

I remember.
Was in a local JC fraternity in the 60's - we converted one to dispense beer for the frat house.:beer2:

I’m reading some old Raymond Chandler detective fiction and was reminded of California drivers registration being displayed on the steering column. That went away when the folks in Sacramento figured out “anybody” could find out where you reside.

We received deliveries from the milk man in SoCal early in the morning. I think the milk was left on the porch in the steel carrier. Mom would leave the empty milk bottles for pick up. I also think the milk man left an order card where you could ask for cottage cheese, cream and other dairy products. Not sure if he saw the card and could fill the order that morning or the next time he came?

When the service stopped, you could drive to a dairy store drive-through. I mean, actually drive through the center of the building and never get out of your car. (Still glass bottles.)
Interestingly, @Loyal bears a striking resemblance to said milk man.

Royal Crest still delivers milk in Colorado Springs. They even have glass bottles, other dairy products and fruits/veggies.

Definitely a service that is disappearing.

This is something that is certainly before me and my years, I grew up in the panhandle of Texas/Eastern New Mexico and idk when those services stopped. However, there is a shit load of dairies in that area and some would actually make home made cheese and dairy products and they were freaking amazing! Best cheese I've ever eaten made into huge blocks our wheels.

If we had a milk man when I was younger, I bet my daddy wouldn't have had to leave to go get some milk and never return.

The little town I grew up in did not have milk deliveries. My parents bought it by the half gallon carton. I'd go to my grandparents house where the milk they had was fresh from the cow. My grandma would pour cold milk in one of those tin cups that were different colors. She kept the milk in the same kind of bottles that the milkman delivered. The cold milk would make the cups sweat on the outside. Sure tasted good back then.

I remember the milk man when I was a kid in England.
It used to sit outside early morning.
Sometimes when dad got the milk in we'd notice the silver tops had been pecked open by the birds.
