I really like the idea of Fassel. Might be a way of retaining Williams while getting an HC that has disciplined players but is very innovative and opens things up and can coach and might not restrict the offense but rather open it up wide.

I don't think Gruden is leaving the booth. He gets paid more than most if not all of the NFL coaches and he does a fraction of the work.

Normally I'd agree but he's laid hints out there that it's possible to happen and we've seen over the last few years that ESPN is dumping high paid talent also. That combination makes me think he's coming back to a sideline and I don't see him as a recruiter to coach in college.

I agree, although the Notre Dame job might open up and that is one job he covets.
But I think he's ready to get back in to the NFL, and I'm sure seeing his brother having success breeds a little competition too.
Gruden, Callahan and Wauffle back together again, and if Williams doesn't want to stay, maybe they pry Raheem Morris away from Atlanta

What you might see if they keep Brian Kelly is Charlie Strong trying to reinvent himself and becomes Defensive Coordinator at Notre Dame....Not sure hiring Strong at this point would go over well with the alumni because of the failure at Texas.

That is my hope, but I'm not sure what Kelly future holds at the moment. Another scandal at the school at a time that he was trying to get a shot at the LSU job is just not good timing.

Can't agree with Strong doing a great job at Austin..They had not lost to Kansas since 1938, that's right 1938 when FDR was in the White House...Anyway not disagreeing that the boosters were not overwhelmed with Strong's hiring, but if he had won, they would've treated him Darrell K Royal!

You're also ignoring the fact that our special teams units are often among the best in the NFL.

I really want David Shaw out of Stanford. He gets the most out of his players and runs his system according to his team's strengths. He's fairly young, but has a lot of experience as a head coach.

I would like to target a college coach who gets the most out of his players. If you're constantly getting the best players in the nation, what good is that? You're not going to play the Browns every week once in the NFL...

So, here is my short list:
1) Chris Petersen. Did a phenomenal job with Boise St all those years and in his 3rd season turned the Huskies into a potential national champion this season
2) Tom Herman. For the reasons mentioned earlier in this thread. Love the idea he's also from Simi Valley (just moved from there last year)
3) David Shaw. He has to deal with guys who opt for Stanford due to the education, but still manages to field a solid team each season

Having said all that, I think Stan gives Fish a 2-year deal to "prove" he deserves to be the guy to Christen the new stadium. If it doesn't work out, he makes a big splash for the grand opening. Makes sense to me.

Charlie Casserly just said on GMF that he did a study a few years ago. When a team changes their coaching regime, the ones that go from failing to success in 3 years are the ones that had retained at least 12 starters from the time they took over. Do the Rams have 12 players on the roster that a new coach would retain? I think you could say the entire defense, plus Gurley, Goff, Bennie, Havenstien, Britt at minimum. So they have the players, but it could still take them three years to make the playoffs.

So, do we expect it to take Fisher another 2-3 years? Does he enough of those players on offense? Or doesn't it matter how many good players he has?

Can they do it holistically? Fisher brought in some excellent coaches. What's the chances that any of them would be retained? Lineman was a young, modern thinking coach but he didn't have a good pool of friends to pull from, neither did Spagnolo for that matter.

I am sure head coach could be improved upon.

Who knows. What we do know is that 7-9 year in and year out doesn't cut it. I'll risk another Linehan if the reward is the next Tomlin, McCarthy, Arians, Zimmer, etc. I want to watch a winner.

Tom Coughlin HC - he'll instill the discipline this team so badly needs.

Hue Jackson OC - Was good at Cincinnati. He won't be at Cleveland next year, Cincy not so good once he left.

Quinn/Singletary as DC - Quinn is great when he has pieces. won't be in Jax for long.

Fassel - ST coach. No explanation needed, our most solid coaching piece.

Head Assistant OC and QB Coach - Mike Martz. Loves Goff and wants to coach again. Give him some power, but not enough.

I have been thinking coughlin for a long time. The team needs a discipline type coach. Too many games thrown cus of stupid penalties. And you gotta love the Mad Mike Martz call.

There in lies the problem. They need to make a very well vetted decision. The defense is ready now. It would suck to get another bad regime in and have another wasted 4 years.
