Which QB should the Rams draft in the 1st Round next year?

I promise you they won’t. For quarterback, the number one predictor of success at the NFL level over the last decade or so has been experience. Number of games, number of snaps. He would have the fewest number of starts for any first round pick since Trey Lance, and we saw how that worked out. QBs with fewer than 20 collegiate starts have *all* underperformed at the NFL over the last decade.

There is no way in hell the Manning Family is going to send Arch to the NFL unprepared just so he can play for McVay. And more importantly, Arch has to *prove* he’s worthy of a top pick. I watched him play last year. He was fine vs two really bad teams. I’m sorry, but “sure fire unquestioned future number 1 pick” did not leap off the screen in those games. People are making way too many assumptions about him as a player. He hasn’t started a single SEC game yet and people want to pencil him in for the number 1 pick. It’s legit one of the craziest things I’ve ever heard.

If Texas would happen to win the National Championship and he wins the Heisman trophy there is no fucking way in hell would he risk another college season. Peyton Manning was the projected number 1 pick after his junior season and he came back. Eli was a projected first rounder after his junior season and he came back. Football isn’t basketball. Just because someone is good in high school doesn’t mean they will automatically be good as a pro. There are a million variables that come into play. The notion that the Mannings will send Arch to the NFL after 15 starts, even with if he wins the national title and has a great season, is absolutely insane. It will not happen.

Second choice is an UNPROVEN but experienced pro of at least a couple years, like the guy the WFT traded to the seahawks. I believe McVay had expressed an interest in him.

He started week 10. And they had Kurt Warner ahead of him who had been to 2 Super Bowls in the previous 4 years.

And again, Eli had over 40(!!) starts in college. Peyton had 50. Arch is currently sitting at 2. Learning under McVay and behind Stafford isn’t a replacement for reps and game experience. It’s a nice supplement if you already have a lot of experience. But if you took two 19 year old QBs with the same talent, and had one learn under McVay and Stafford for 3 years with essentially no playing time, while the other starts at an SEC or Big 10 program and gets 30+ starts under his belt, the one that went to college is going to be miles ahead. Miles. Especially at a place like Texas and in the SEC.

Well in a situation like that, I think they would trust that McVay would know when he is ready...like Reid sitting Mahomes for a year.

In any event we won't get that pick, just saying in a situation like that, they would steer him to a great coach if possible. Hell, they engineered that Eli ended up in New York so it would not be out of character for them to be very cognizant of the opportunity for him to land with a great coach/organization.

I agree, but let's say if somehow the Rams ended up with the first pick... Atlanta crashes & burns or something catastrophic happens here in LA, then I would bet the Mannings would change their tune so he could go play with the Rams. Or for that matter any QB friendly coach who has a great reputation, getting that first pick, would likley change their outlook.

Because of Arch burning his career the way he did, the Mannings are the example of a football family that understands the importance of who you play for as a QB. So yes, if the Brownstains are squatting at 1 overall there's no chance in hell he's coming out.

But conversely as some have observed already, if the Rams and McVay are sitting at 1 overall you can bet the Manning clan is circling wagons and discussing him in horns.

We don’t draft a QB. We get Whitworth to use his LSU ties to start whispering sweet nothings into the ears of Joe Burrow’s representation. Then after the Bengals miss the playoffs this year and next, Burrow’s representation starts playing hardball and demand a trade. And we replace Matthew Stafford with Joe Burrow and keep the train rolling right along.

I'd be good with Burrow partnering with McVay. I think they could do great things together, though ideally Stafford wins another title with us first and sails off into a Pacific Ocean sunset.
