Which QB should the Rams draft in the 1st Round next year?

I look at 2 things with the Falcons.

#1 is Penix. He started 3 games last year and won 1. His comp% was under 60%. He threw as many INTs as he did TDs (3). He's going to need to make a huge jump to get them into the postseason.....or in other words, above .500.

#2 is their schedule. Sure they get Carolina and New Orleans twice. They have 6 games vs 2024 playoff teams, 4 of them in the first 5 weeks and another vs a 10 win non-playoff team, which is bunched with those other 2 at the end of the year.

I know they have "talent" but they also have an inexperienced QB and a tough schedule. If I were to bet on them, I'd take the under. I like them for about 6 or 7 wins.....which would put them at about the #10-#12 pick in the first. The Rams could put both 1st rounders together and get to 4 or 5, I'd think.

Hope you're right ... would love to see the Rams get a top young QB.

I think he stayed the same. I didn’t see improvement. Like you said, he became very reliant on the short passing game despite his arm talent. Plus he had one of the best Olines in college football to protect him. However, that could also be attributed to the Andy Kotelnicki scheme. His offense is closer to the LOS than Yurcich’s. Yurcich liked throwing down field. It’s a part of why he was fired. He wouldn’t start the game with easy throws to let Allar get comfortable. Franklin told him many times that starting the QB with an easier to execute game plan has to be part of the plan. Yurcich never adjusted.

Colin Cowherd asked Drew how he handles being the PSU QB while going around State College and campus. He said that he always liked keeping to himself. He’s not real outgoing. It’s a big adjustment being known everywhere he goes. He said he discussed how to handle it with Franklin. That doesn’t strike me as an alpha dog mentality. To me, that is how he plays; introverted and conservative, too afraid of making mistakes, locks onto targets he trusts. He needs to break out of that tendency.

I expect Kyren Hudson to have a good year because of his reliable hands, just like Tyler Warren.

@PA Ram I’m rooting for Allar but my expectations aren’t that high. It’s been said here a few times: The big games will be what tells us if he’s taken another step. With the way the running game is expected to dominate, we may not see Allar under much stress this season, until the Ohio State game.

You're right that trading up isn't a given. I wasn't saying it was.

I was offering the evidence that they attempted to trade up to show that 1st round offers to move up giving future 1st round picks is common, or at least isn't rare.

This year, we made an aggressive trade up attempt with Carolina and I'm presuming that it included a 2026 1st round pick. Carolina ultimately turned it down but they had an opportunity to trade back and get a future 1st plus trade comp in the current draft.

All likelihood,
Rams pick 25-32,
Falcons pick 14-23.

Rams trade these 2 picks, plus 2027 1st Rounder for Apple of McSnead's eye Quarterback.

What's better than 2 mid/late first round picks in that year's draft? 2 high first round picks? Who has 2 that high? A first, a second in 2026 and 2027 1st rounder? I think I'd rather have the two firsts and possibly parlay that into a better deal than that 1- 2 , 2027 1.

If you have the #2 or 3 pick would you rather have say the 8th this year, their 2nd this year and that teams pick next year in next years 1st? That next year's pick could still be top half of the 1st round. Or a pick that's mid 1st round this year and last 5 of this years 1st? Even if that 2nd team throws in next years first it's more likely to be in the same range where the 1st teams isn't as likely to go too far back into the playoff group.

Spitballing:
-Rams ‘25 30th pick (Rams) for XXX ‘26 20th pick + ‘25 4th round pick.
-Rams ‘25 10th pick (Falcons) for XXX ‘26 5th pick + ‘25 3rd round pick.
- Rams ‘26 20th pick + ‘26 5th pick + ‘26 3rd round pick for whomever the fuck they want.
 
I don’t think this is how McVay wants to handle replacing Stafford at all.

McVay seems to want established pros to help get to the next level.
The team is too talented to just hand over to a rookie.
Stafford is likely to play in ‘26–unless the Rams win it all in ‘25.

I would think that would entirely depend on a number of things.

The needs of the team sitting in the top 5.
The high end talent available
The depth of the draft
The high end/depth meeting the needs of the team in the top 5.

Every draft is different both in high end talent and depth. And these guys who are paid to look into the future, also know how the next years draft is shaping up. So many things to take into account. Having said all that, if I'm holding the #11 pick and the #31 or 32 pick and you have #4 or #5, moving down 6 or 7 slots to pick up another pick in the late first round, would sound pretty good to me. If I didn't have a desperate need to use that #4 or 5 pick on a QB, Edge, LT or CB and there was nobody absolutely blowing teams away, what would be wrong with the #11 pick and #32?

In the 2021 draft, SF traded up from #12 to #3 and gave up a 2022 1st rd (allegedly valued at a 2nd round pick), 2022 3rd round (4th round?_), 2023 1st rd (2nd or 3rd round value?). That's better than 2 first round picks in the same draft.....valued as 1st round picks? Not IMHO.
