No WR, CB, OT, etc. is going to be more valuable to us then a QB successor.

If it's a QUALITY QB successor, that is both available and the Rams can maneuver to select ... I agree.

Unfortunately, that is not a given.

I took a look at the Drafts from 2018-2022.

In 2018, the only quality-QB after pick #7 was Lamar Jackson; and there was plenty of uncertainty with him. Maybe the Rams can't get into position to select a QB at #7 (that's when Josh Allen went).

In 2019, the QBs selected in the top-100 were Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, Dwayne Haskins and Drew Lock.

After a horrible QB-class in 2019, it was a strong class in 2020, led by Burrow, Herbert and Hurts.

In 2021, there were 5 QBs taken in the top-15. Trevor Lawrence was the consensus #1 overall, and Jacksonville was not going to trade that pick. The jury is still out on Lawrence. After him ... UGH! ...
Zach Wilson (#2), Trey Lance (#3), Justin Fields (#11) and Mac Jones (#15).

2022 may have been even worse, with Kenny Pickett the only first round QB selected. He was followed by Desmond Ridder, Malik Willis and Matt Corral. Pittsburgh forced that Pickett-pick, and it did not work-out.

The above summary is kind-of-my-point.
If THE GUY is there, the Rams should try to do everything they can to get him. But ... Everything They Can just may not be enough. Furthermore, if The Guy is NOT THERE, it would be a mistake to Force a pick ... and get the next Trey Lance.

Les Snead with two #1's in 2026 and more following can do quite a lot and is willing to f*ck them picks. I would lay down money that we get a QB next year if I had any...lol

Mike had his flaws, BUT..... he was the reason we won the 99 SB. Vermeil was a TERRIBLE coach, especially on offense. The year he called plays was the worst thig I have ever witnessed as a Rams fan.
Kurt had a all time LT and a Pro Bowl OG so it was a better O line than most.
Warner was not ruined by Martz per se. He his his thumb on that Eagles helmet and that was the start of it.
Now Martz should have let him sit on the bench and heal, anything but trade or release him.
But Martz certainly could not identify talent like our guys now. I remember how much re raved about Jimmy Kennedy and others who did not play up to their draft status.
Well - we have our differences, but I’ll give Martz credit for play calling.Whoever was calling plays in KC with Trent Greene was amazing, you can compare some of those seasons there.

My point would be comparing The Rams in 2021(17) to 1999- 2005 ?

Going back though
In FACT I’ll call total BS!! You look at that Kurt Warner movie &
It SO far from the truth.Didn’t OJ Simpson play Marshall Faulk ??
Dick Vermell in KC was as good as it gets.We can look at who had the better offense? I say that because it was a belief, and I’m never going to take anything away from Mad Mike as far as playcalling.Still I’m not going to go back to the Tony Bank days either.

I quoted a `story that said 3 firsts...*shrugs
The portion of that article that summarized it as the 2016 #15 and two 2017 1sts was incorrect. The Rams never had 2 1sts in 2017.

Here's a direct quote from the article that is correct:

"The terms are as follows: Tennessee gets: Rams' first-round pick (2016), two second-round picks (2016), a third-round pick (2016), a first-round pick (2017) and another third-round pick (2017)."

That looks like 2 1sts (2016 & 2017), 2 2nds (both 2016), and 2 3rds (one in each of 2016 & 2017).

After a quick search, the only trades in NFL history were a team received 3 1st round picks were the Herschel Walker and Eric Dickerson trades.

I can't see McSnead drafting a guy as raw as Lance. They'll likely want a fairly proven guy. But, they also may have the luxury of sitting anyone they pick for a season or 2 behind a pro like Stafford. Just saying, our pick at 32nd in '27 is going to be tough to get a good QB at.

Yeah it's no guarantee even with early picks that we find the guy. Even top picks are hit and miss.

And I agree that forcing a pick is a bad idea. Fortunately, the 2026 draft is reported to have a lot of options which lessons the chances they will feel the need to force something that isn't there.

That said, Snead and McVay are both very aggressive. Demoff said that sometimes their aggression has to be reigned in a bit. So I have no doubt that they won't sit back and wait for whatever leftover QB falls to them if they're stuck with picks in the mid-1st next year. With the additional draft capital, they'll make a major move and get their guy.

That's like saying Trey Lance could lead Dallas to the Superbowl - odds are extremely low on that happening
Bennett is much more likely since Lance isn't on Dallas anymore. Guess you and Mem didn't get the news :D

What are you talking about ? I did not watch the Kurt Warner movie.
D. Vermell was a terrible coach who just about had a mutiny. He thought grinding his players into the ground would make them better. And he cried.
Remember his goal line "Jumbo" packages. You know, the ones where he had extra Tackles or Tight Ends, had them all bunched up and slammed June Henley into that pile of humanity for a loss ! DV let Henley play because he liked him, he was a try hard guy in practice and he should not have been on a NFL roster !
Then Martz shows up and all of a sudden those goal line plays were 3 receiver spread wide formations where the defense had to you know............ defend all that space and the RB just ran behind Pace for the easy score. (McVay could learn from that IMO)
DV SUCKED and could not and did not win a Super Bowl in KC when his main reason for success there was taking Martz's offense to Kansas City !

That is not 100% accurate. They both needed each other. Martz botched things up as HC and his handling of DC’s is good example. Thank goodness the Cardinals denied the Rams permission the first time for Marmie or Lovie Smith would have never gotten the chance.

Al Saunders did an excellent job as OC in KC. Vermeil did realize the err of his ways, but that was after a come to Jesus meeting with John Shaw and company. Plus as bad as John Shaw was, he made Vemeil hire Martz because Vermeil wanted to go internal & hire Mike White.

In the end everything came together, but Vemeil & Martz were great together, when they were apart not so much.

And for God sake watch the damn movie. Spoiler Alert: Rams win the Super Bowl in the end.

Martz completely ... and forever ... lost me when he was asked about Marmie, and replied ...
'Larry Marmie. Oh, everyone knows, he's just the best.'

Not entirely true....The Rams got 3 first round picks from Washington when they traded up for RG111.
Just sayin'....

Right. So we can hope for Patrick Mahomes then.

On a side note, Luka trade wasn’t a complete surprise, Players change teams all the time in the NBA. Comparing a player transaction in the NBA to NFL is about as apples to oranges as one can get.
Luka trade wasn't a complete surprise? Pretty sure the entire universive expected him to sign a max extension.

Guess we'll agree to disagree. Cuz patrick and burrow at their age and what they've accomlished is apples and oranges too.

We already lived the most improbably QB story one could think up with Kurt Warner. He's proof that you just never fucking know man.

Lance btw signed with the Chargers iirc. Prob with both those dudes is they have backups in front of them on the depth chart. If Kurt had been QB3 things may have gone far differently.

What a strange trip the NFL can be at times.
