Good topic idea I think. :thumbsup1:

First off I'd only move up a slight amount, that being what next year's round 2 pick or less could garner. So I'm guessing that is let's see... the 15th-25th range or thereabouts, maybe 17th or 18th to 25th.

Either way I do have a small group of what I think are difference makers that I would jump for. And these are only dudes I think have a chance to get to that mid-first range where they can become targets for us. For example I don't think Warren is feeling like a top ten pick now and I doubt even if he gets past 10 he won't get past Indy at 14. Jeanty same, I think he's gone first half of the round. Barron same. Golden same. So who are the ones who might actually be close enough that I like that much hrm...

:helmet: QB. Stafford is up there in age, has hard miles, and is unhappy with his contract and this is the most important position on the field. So any QB that McVay feels has a chance to start, if the price is a small jump to ensure you get him before some teams like Pittsburgh, then go get him. I prefer Dart because I think he's a great fit to sit behind Stafford. But if McVay wants Shough, McCord, etc fuck it whatever I am good with it.

:helmet: Starks. He should be off the board top half of the round to my eye in terms of what he is. But safety is a non-elite position you can fill deep into drafts. It's cheap in FA. And there's a S2 who might have jumped him based on his combination of good film in his own right plus the most impressive workout for the position since the inception of combine workouts. Starks brings flexibility which I think Shula would covet, actual cover skills, he can drop, or play up tight. He is an impact player in our defense IMO.

:helmet: Nolen. Look I realize with Ford's signing that the only real need now for the Rams front is a run stuffer widebody, which they should be able to find into later rounds. But this dude has strong film and showed very well Senior Bowl week and I think his upside is very high. So if he gets close to us a difference maker is a difference maker. And our DL would be insane. The competition would drive a hunger that would eat opposing OL. Note that Grant is somewhat similar in that I might consider him in the same manner if he gets close, but what his role would be is something you can find well into this draft.

:helmet: Ezeiruaku. This dude has legit juice off the edge (has a little bend to him too) and might last a bit longer than expected due to the depth of edge options for the first half of round 1. Not likely I'd say but I think much more possible than Golden dropping or Barron etc. Now Rams fans would hate this because we have Young still coming into his own. But I would envision it as EZ goes blindside with Verse over the strong side on passing downs, and early downs Young is our run game and contain dude. Depth and competition.

The official Merlin "likely to bust" first rounder list, who I hope the Rams avoid at 26:

:poop: Shedeur Sanders. Terrible combination of elements with Deion's kid. First off he's got his Dad's ego but not his athletic ability. Secondly he's got attitude in spades as rumored by his interviews with top teams in pre-draft meetings. Third his offense is a fucking joke with him making tons of short ass throws, trying to find an anticipation throw with him is like searching for the Loch Ness monster in google satellite mode. And lastly his Dad is going to run his fucking mouth in the media in every instance where his kid struggles, as he inevitably will in this big boy league. Dude has bust written all over him. Please avoid.

:poop: Shemar Stewart. You have this massive brick shithouse of an athlete who shows well Senior Bowl week, well for two days of it, before being satisfied that he's going to get paid first round and departed to do whatever the fuck else he had going on. Then you look at his film and wonder where that dude who showed up for two days of Senior Bowl week is, outside of the occasional flash. All I can say is this is another player who I do not think will do the work, and who will almost inevitably fail to reach the heights that his talent hints at. Please avoid.

Reasons why I have never respected their football program.

  1. They cannot move to a better conference because they do not offer graduate degrees at their University.
  2. The Blue Field is a joke and kills too many Seagulls, who believe it is a body of water from the sky.
  3. When they play the big boys, the routinely get their ass kicked besides when they beat Oklahoma back in 2007 and Oklahoma was not that good.

@El Chapo Jr

I didn't want to further derail the 2025 New Trades Cuts thread, so I figured I'd ask you here.

Who are the day one starters you think will be available for the Rams in this draft? The only shot I see today may be at LB. Maybe.

Agree on LB, but just feel confident based on Rams history that they won't go there. Also any CB that is there (Barron, Revel, Thomas) or a legitimate slot WR if one such as Burden falls. Can't see Warren falling and I'm not huge on Loveland honestly. I'd be more than ok with a trade back if any of those starting options aren't there.

If the Rams are scrapping using 11 personnel a majority of the time and going with mostly 12 personnel then I can see a TE being an day one starter. If someone like Quinyon Mitchell were in this draft class, I'd see him as a day one starter. I'm not so sure about the others although Barron could probably force the team to take away Lake's slot CB duties. If what I've heard on draft podcasts is true regarding potential diva issues, I doubt Luther Burden fits the "We not me" mindset at Rams Park. But, if they are sticking to heavy 11 personnel Ebuka might be a day one starter.

Either way, IMO, there are comparable talents in this draft class that can be had outside of round one who could have similar and possibly better impacts than most of the players discussed in the first round of this draft class.

Warren, Jeanty, Hampton, Egbuka.
Weapons.

Adams was a nice add. Tutu? We’ll see.

FA has been successful to fill needs and add depth elsewhere but i still strongly believe that our skill guys are lacking in explosion. As of today I still don’t see much “he can score from anywhere” guys here.

It’s possible that the Rams hit on these qualities on day two or three of this draft but not likely.

I would have zero issues with going up to grab a true difference maker.

We have a two year window with Stafford (maybe just one year) ….and a pretty good roster overall. We’re close.

F them picks should be in play if the opportunity is there. Some of our more conservative members and draft pick hoarders will scold me im sure. I know what this offense needs. Trust me.

Sorry, I don't TRUST anyone, not even those signing my pension checks. Seriously though, I can also see where mcVay/Snead see a target in the 18-22 range who is falling and he moves perhaps one of this years 3rds and a 6th to move a few spots. Actually thinking Loveland comes into play although he may still might get past Denver and Chargers due to their TE signings (Engram and Conklin). Loveland, I think, would be devastating in this offense with Puka and DA drawing most of the attention. Sometimes you can simply win games by just outscoring the other team.

I'm on board with this idea. Young is fine right now, but what if we could actually inject some more pure edge pressure. I'm not sold that will ever get more than 8 or so sacks in year, but what if we had somebody there with the potential to be 12-15 sack guy? Combined with Verse opposite would be the makings of the next great NFL defense.

Nobody.

Any trade up would almost certainly require our 2026 first. With Stafford possibly only having a couple of years left, we need that 2026 first-round pick to draft his replacement.
I guess it depends on how high this prospective trade up is. In theory trading #26, #90, and next year's 2nd can get us to about pick #14-15.

Not that I'm for that just coming up with something that allows us to keep the 2026 1st.

All depends IMO

If Jeanty somehow falls to say…pick 16 or 17? Yes trade up. Trade up to top 10 for him? No.

Jumping up to take a TE? Are we a TE away? Is he in the same class as Bowers? I don’t think so.

Feels like Loveland to Chargers is a good fit. Not just because it's his old coach but because they desperately need help at pass catcher and I think after McMillan and Golden are gone, Loveland's total skillset makes him better than the next receivers.

You can flip Loveland and McConkey back and forth between slot and the outside for max efficacy.

Yep, the blue field is completely unwatchable to me as well. I guess that just means that seagulls aren't color blind.
Boise does usually lose to bigger conference powers, but I do recall a great playoff game victory against a favored Alabama team in 2009, and a thrilling game at that.

I've been one of the few that's said at the moment I don't see Young being a critical second contract resigning so I'm definitely for upgrading that position.

That said, does EZ help us win the SB this year? I'm not sure he moves the needle much on that.

You do that you might as well deal Young now for maybe a late 2 to get a top remaining CB or TE or maybe a QB who they really like.

Not even for Jeanty, IMO. Just too many good RBs in this deep RB draft class.

Awhile back Bijan Robinson was all the rage. Jahmyr Gibbs has been as good or better. Saquan Barkley was this year's Jeanty. Prior to this season his draft classmate Nick Chubb was just as good or better. Christian McCaffrey's draft class had Dalvin Cook and Alvin Kamara. And so on.

As someone who doesn’t pay attention to college and only sees highlights, can you explain why? Jeanty seemed to be taking it the distance every single carry. He looks strong, fast and has the ability to carry the load. Was it competition?

Aside from Oregon, he struggled against better competition (i.e., Penn State). I also don't think he's built for a workhorse load like Hampton is. I don't think he's even the receiver Hampton is. I'm not saying Jeanty's bad, but he's, in my honest opinion, a little overrated for what he's done and what he's shown. Should he have won the Heisman over Travis Hunter? Abso-fucking-lutely. Is he a top ten prospect in this class? That, I don't know.

Donovan Ezeiruaku is honestly my favorite edge rusher in this class. He's a little small (6'2", 248 lbs.), but his explosiveness, his extensive pass rush skillset, his ability to bend around the edge, and his physicality all make me think prime Robert Quinn. And he's honestly a better run stopper than one might think with his size.

I wouldn't move up for him, but I would definitely consider taking him if he fell to #26 overall.

Maybe Warren if the cost wasn’t too high. I don’t knew w of any other player or position that makes a big impact. Maybe Hunter but that’s top 5.

I think Warren would give them more versatility at tight end. He can run, pass, catch, has YAC ability, etc…. But it’s likely to cost a lot to move up from 26.
So has and can former QB turned TE Jaylin Conyers. And he might be able to be had in day three of the draft this TE draft class is so deep.

Just hope we are not in love with any one player too much. Love makes you do stupid things sometimes. BPA all day long and everyday this draft. You can get four upgrades this draft. I’d call them part time starters. It might be a half dozen players in this draft that could be impact starters. The draft capital will be steep for those unless one slips to the high teens and they still won’t be cheap. You can F them picks in next years draft.
