Cause it's likely to happen so why not have Jefferson available for however many games we need him if one is out of the lineup for any time. That's far more valuable than any trade value we could get for him (except for maybe the desperate Panthers).

Plus, I'm stoked by what I've seen from Tutu lately but wonder how he'll look playing the X a bunch more. Think he's been taking a decent amount of snaps at F which Kupp will take over when he's back.
Just saw some stats that Puca is playing outside 70% slot 30% and historically, Kupp played outside 30% and slot 70%

If anything there is very little overlap

Puca is a virtual clone of Woods (possibly a superior Woods) and plays the Z mostly. OBJ was an X receiver who could wreck things running fades and backside digs.

That's not Puca's game.
I more meant how effective it was, but you bring up an important distinction.

If we didn't have Puca the loss of Kupp would probably have us a game or two more in the loss column. We have needed a big target who can eat a high volume of passes backing him up for that possession role for a long time. This is the first time Kupp going down hasn't changed the look of the offense in terms of third down efficiency. It has been downright remarkable.

With Kupp back both their volume will be cut into, but the offense should be tougher to stop. I cannot wait to see what that looks like.

jefferson made a great catch today. also had a piss-poor block. what did i miss today that has everyone wanting to dump him more beyond the first three games?

Pitts would play in the slot. Would you pull Kupp out for him? I wouldn't. I wouldn't pull Nacua out for him either.

Hell of a talent but it is hard to see big return on him as an acquisition. Taylor would give us a lot more IMO. Or an edge, though I would not touch our first rounder in this draft unless someone special hits the market.
Pitts can play anywhere on the formation.
We need a Wentz type, I don't understand how we're comfortable with Rypien. Stetson was supposed to be that guy but nobody knows what's going on there and no point in asking.

Going with Rypien at backup QB is the equivalent of going with Zach Thomas as backup LT. Automatic forfeit in case of injury
I hate to speculate, but I wouldn't be surprised if Stetson is in rehab for alcohol addiction.
I’m thinking the lineup should be Kupp, Puka, and Tutu, with seeing a little more Sko.

I think I’ve seen enough of Jefferson.

But either way, I think we have a very solid group of receivers.

What are you guys thinking?
I'd start Kupp, Puka, and Tutu. But Jefferson and Skow will get reps when those guys need breathers.

Is that not Tutu? Burner with legit 4.2/4.3 speed and surprisingly good hands through contact for someone his size
For whatever reason, they don't use Tutu that way anymore. Maybe its too hard to scheme him to get a free run off the line on those deep balls. He's definitely not a big target with a large catch radius either. Or maybe McVay or Stafford lost a bit of faith in Atwell after that route that ended up as an intentional grounding.

If he was larger and longer I'm sure he'd be targeted more than he is now. He can't be the easiest guy to spot in traffic.

For me personally it was the throw to him late on the sidelines where instead of reaching out and pulling the ball in he just tried to let it come into his hands close to his body. The defender knocked it down. Similar to the Super Bowl interception in the end zone, he just doesn't have the instinct for the ball to quickly track it and adjust when needed. Plus, he is so soft and light that he is easily out muscled on a contested ball. He plays his ass off and fights hard, but just lacks the strength and instincts to make routine plays he should make in my opinion.

I'm not a Jefferson fan but he does have value as a 4th WR since he has been in the system so long.

Sometimes that 4th WR gets no attention and can be a good alternate option.

PLUS Puka and Kupp can both block so we could do some nasty, nasty things with Jefferson, Tutu, Kupp and Puka on the field together

Tutu goes deep a lot I think. If you think back though, McVay has never really been a big fan of go routes. Even with Watkins and Cooks, it's mostly post routes for deep shots and that has continued with Van and Tutu.

And none of those four were/are great contested catch guys, so I think they are there to occupy the defense and open up everything else in the middle of the field. Which can be hard to argue with given the success we've had overall.

What if Tutu, Kupp or Puca get injured?
Yeah, I wouldn't be so quick to trade Jefferson until we know Kupp is fully healed. Doubt we'd get much in return anyway. Maybe a 5th? If they think they have something going this season it would be a nice insurance policy to keep him.

Exactly right. And given how long he's been in the league... Good thing is he is fine as a depth piece which is what he will be when Kupp returns.
