I was thinking the same thing. I’d say impaired at WR too. They have one slightly built, budding star. Lockett is on the downside, and their big play guy is a meathead who is not a reliable route runner. For every good play, he has two bad ones.

The way the Rams are retooling this defense and remaining relevant doing it, makes me think there is only one position in the future that could be an obstacle, that’s QB and it’s an obstacle for every team in the league that doesn’t have one. Otherwise they seem to be able to shore up weaknesses or completely rebuild very quickly.

Yeah I think the Rams have two options, those being to add some weapons for Stafford or move on from him. I don't think Stafford has played well since he won the Title. He's had his moments, but it has been up and down at best and it's hard to say to what extent the string of poor protections, injuries, and a lack of pass game weapons has contributed to that.

I certainly have my opinion on that of course. But it is entirely possible the Rams will be considering moving on from him if this playoff run isn't successful. By successful I'd say we need him to perform well and give us our best chance in each game. So no slow starts where it takes him half the game to hit a wideout in stride. I'm guessing he plays well in these playoffs, and that they will add a slot weapon (TE) and a wideout.

If the offense looks like shit and we get dumped on our asses and they move on from him, then things get crazy. I don't expect this or anything, but just acknowledging that McVay is completely ruthless with his QB and weapons. Kupp would probably get shown the door too. And he might be gone regardless anyway.

I remember winning the last 3 games under Linehan to finish 8-8. We thought we were on our way. Then the next two years happened.

Ok, Seattle. Mediocre play means you're on your way. :eyeroll:

I will admit that I think MacDonald was a fine hire. If he can make that defense great they're gonna be tough as hell no matter who's in that backfield. But they're probably a year out. And the Rams defense should also be finishing up its rebuild this offseason so hopefully we'll be in their way. :hug:

Stafford always brings it when we need him most. Our Super Bowl run. Loss to Detroit last playoffs he was the best player on the field. Season opener to Detroit this year he again was the best player on the field. Our wins vs. Buffalo and Minnesota this season in must have games as big underdogs, he was spectacular and led the offense to crazy output. I think age - and injuries! - are catching up to him and he just can't bring that 100% A-game every week, so he saves it for when we need it most. I think that is what explains the numbers more than anything. That and large parts of the year without his weapons or an o-line. But when he wants to sling it his arm still is a cannon. His processing hasn't slowed down. He's even been running the ball lately - LOL! I think we have 2-3 more years of him left. Bare minimum. Unless he doesn't want to play longer, or picks up injuries. This is a poor QB draft class. I don't think I'd spend draft capital on a replacement just yet.

Matthew has handled every single snap from center this season. That is a ton of snaps considering our bye week was so long ago. I believe he needs a break to recharge for post season play.

Maybe it's being misinterpreted. It seems to be getting negative reactions lol.

I worded it in such a way that it's actual fact, not opinion. Based on normal QB stats - comp %, TDs, TD/INT, QB rate, QBR, etc. - Geno, Murray, and Stafford are all league average.

However, numbers aren't everything. I believe that Stafford, at his best, is better than both of those guys. But we're biased Rams fans lying to ourselves if we think that there is a whole lot of daylight between them.

Sure the last 3 years, he's been NFL average. In 2022, we had a clusterfuck of OL injuries. In 2023, the first 4 weeks without Kupp he had a QB rating of 78.1; 99.2 after that. This year with the OL injuries early (first 5 games), he had a 86.3 QB rating. After that 97.4.

He has a career QB rating of 91.2 but the last 2 years his rating is 93.1.....with Kupp missing, Puka missing, OL missing. Not too shabby.

Agreed. I'd toss out 2022 due to the severe OL injuries.

Keep in mind though that a sub 100 is not elite. Even the best of 2023 and 2024 - 99.2 and 97.4 - are approaching league average. That puts him in the 12-14 range next to Brock Purdy and Jordan Love.

His first year in LA - his first year with an actual real team - he had a 102.9 rating. IMO, that's where he should be at with the fully healthy, high priced offense, that the Rams have.

So, 97 is not shabby, but also not great.

No sub 100 is not elite. But it includes 4 weeks without Kupp last year, 5 weeks without a proper OL this year and more time without both Kupp and Puka ( 4 more weeks?). That's about 8-10 weeks total (since OL and WRs were missing simultaneously), almost a third of the 2 year total.
 
Right now the Rams O-line is playing about the best we've seen for the season, minus Boom filling in for Hav.

If the line plays consistently well, Stafford can still bring it. You can see as the game evolves, he figures out the defense's soft spots then hits it when the time is right. IMO of course. But it explains why the Rams win so many tight games with Stafford making the plays at the right time. Thet first meeting with the whiners is a perfect example of this.
