@VegasRam about to win a game of checkers, while his boy looks on....

There was a period in the late 90's when I visited my wife's parents and other relatives and had a card party. It was a holdover from the time before the total absorption of the web. I can say that I enjoyed playing super canasta with them on a Friday night than most things that now occupy my time on Friday nights these days.

Now GET OFF MY LAWN!

used to hang out with friends at the arcade, spending my hard earned paper route money, pick up baseball and football games. Then I got my drivers license and a car and a job, and here we are now

Before the internet?
Well for one you had to go to the back room of the video store

Brudda... this is so true and such an weird peek back in time. LOL

Gave me a great flashback too. One of my local video stores had one of those backrooms. The owner of the store was a young cougar (like 30 yrs old) and she made it VERY clear to me that I was on her radar. She would even remove her bra without removing her shirt when I walked into her store. She told me that she was trying to shine spotlights on me with her high beams. I was in my 20s. Her high beams could poke an eye out btw.

Let's just say that things escalated in the Backroom one day... the cougar pounced on me back there after she locked the front doors of the store. My video renting went way up as a result. I became a regular prey item for the cougar after that... always in that backroom with all of those special videos on the walls from floor to ceiling surrounding us. She was a total freak.

This is proof of tech making life much less fun.

I hiked, backpacked, went dancing, hunted avidly, fished, ran mountain trails and worked too much. I also travelled in the winter months and snow shoed and Cross country skied. I also watched some tv and read a bit.

I resisted getting a smart phone until I could no longer get one from AT&T.

Before the Internet, eh?? How about before any news media??

I was working for my uncle, Sam... and was stationed on Guam in the mid 70's... we may have had TV, but I don't recall. I did go sailing frequently and taught same... As part of the instruction, we had to capsize the 18-20 foot boat... That always freaked out the dependents who were taking sailing lessens... :laugh4:

Sometime later, I was on Adak Alaska - in the Aleutian Islands - there was pretty much nothing there. Truly, it is the last frontier. Went hiking a lot.... Came back to the lower 48 - and my gf (now wife) says want to go to the movies??? She rattle off a list of titles... nothing sounds interesting... are any of these any good? She says, let's go to the Star Wars showing... Alaska - definitely a warp in the space-time continuum. :wow2:

trolls having to make their pointless, hateful in front of you, not hiding behind a screen.

Was still playing a little softball and was starting to coach little league baseball, did my best to watch the Rams when I could and traveled to Europe with the wife. Actually read back then quite a bit. Friends would come over and we'd play cards and watch movies and bitch about the long distance phone bills.

Came through Guam on the way to Korea (Team Spirit 80) Plane had to emergency shutdown to abort takeoff. You know what's at the end of that runway! Had a good time the two days while there though.

I guess you are referring to Anderson AFB.... Ya mean that small drop off???!? (I guess when it was really warm outside, it gave the B-52's fits! I was in the Navy, but the listening joint was located just outside of the AFB, maybe 3 miles west of the Anderson... used to ride the 10 speed up there occasionally... did my time on the rock. :)

Yes, Anderson. Small drop off? Didn't seem so small when you are full reverse thruster and leaning into it. :wow2:

Yeah... I'll bet there was some sweating going on.... I was taking off in a 747, that aborted takeoff - and slowing down is not something they are really designed to do! I thought we were going to go through the barrier at the end of runway, however we turned down some taxi-way or something.... I don't suspect that was much of an option on Guam!
