I usually use the ones that the internet prompts me to install for free. Seems like a surefire way to get a virus but if I keep a virus on the computer it can't get infected again, right?

So you're going for the Montgomery Burns health strategy with your computer?

I used to use AVG Free but everytime they wanted to "upgrade" it would try real hard to activate or overwrite w/ the Pro version. I finally said the hell w/ it and after some trial and error found Bitdefender. I like it quite a bit. Simple and stays in the background. And then every once in a while I'll fire up Malwarebytes just to be sure.......

I have Kaspersky. Never have had any issues with it. Also use Adblock Plus on Chrome and have a VPN when needed.

Dude. This is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
Thanks.

Just wish it was achievable with Chrome.

does MSE work with Firefox and Chrome, or just with IE?

I always use ES/ET. They're the most professional one I've found so far. Very fast scans, absolutely no bloatware. It consumes very little resources.
Many of my professional colleagues use it, because we need as much free RAM as possible.
ES/ET also has a mobile version--and it's free!!!

I got a copy of Trend Micro Threat Clean 64 from work. They passed it out to everyone when there was a bad virus going around at work. Hopefully they don't uncover my EPL soccer streams.

Works pretty good. It runs in a command prompt. I've got it on my Google Drive if anyone gets in a bind. Let me know and I'll PM you a DL link.

malwarebytes is very good. used it today after some malware snuck thru on a youtube downloader download. what that did was it kept popping up an ad called positive finds on every page I opened. once you click on it and go to the website is when it really puts some garbage on your computer (i found out online, not by experience.) it wasnt in the registry, so i uninstalled chrome, used malwarebytes to find and quarantine the little nasty and reinstalled chrome. *remember kids* download from a good site like cnet downloads or the home website. i didnt get any prewarnings about the site i downloaded from, but i should know better than that. the malwarebytes also helped find chrome extensions that arent necessary for the computer (ask.com toolbar was one, i forget the other two.)
