Of the 26 undrafted free agents signed by the Rams, it appears that Johnson received the largest signing bonus, by far ... reported to be $30,000. The next highest-reported was $9,000. Those bonuses count against the cap even if the player doesn't make the roster. So a team really wants the player, and has expectations.

At the start of Day 3 of the Draft (Rounds 4-7), the experts on ESPN (Kiper, McShay and Riddick) each gave their top-3 players yet to be drafted; and Quindell Johnson was on Louis Riddick's list. Riddick mentioned ten interceptions but also talked about missed tackles.

Agree that Johnson is clearly one of the top players signed post-Draft by the Rams.

Rams have had a lot of success with low round and UDFA safeties so got to feel pretty decent about him.

I am sure I read he played a lot of snaps on special teams. They might see him first and foremost as a core special teamer. I can see that looking at his game film posted here. He looks dynamic and sudden with a great feel for the game

Thats a good place to start. Cory Littleton, Stedaman Bailey, Cody Davis, some good names that were special teamers and became contributors!

I think missed tackles is a bad thing for a guy on you last line of defense and teams. I can’t imagine that wasn’t addressed throughout his career so thinking it will change in the pros is a stretch for me.

They must think he has other positives to give him such a good signing bonus so he has a great opportunity.

Good point. Tackling is something that can be improved with good coaching and discipline. He does have strengths to his game that perhaps cannot simply be coached hence the $s

I am with you. The best teams are ones who tackle well so I get your concern. It’s one reason we played so well throughout the playoffs on our road to the SB and something we need to get back to after last year!

I always have trouble projecting the safeties. When we got Rapp he was better in a man coverage use than I expected, so after his rookie season I was thinking they may have hit big on him. Then under Staley you see his role and focus change and he's a different guy, only valuable really coming downhill into the box. Then under Morris he looked confused half the time. Just real dependent on the scheme and the way the DC calls the defense best-utilizing them.

Hopefully there's enough options there for Aubrey to whip this room into shape and get us some good safety play. Particularly in the quarters calls. Between that and the corner room the guy has his work cut out for him. If he can get them playing well he will 100% get a DC job after this season too. Because last season's secondary film is fugly.

Really excited for him too. Mocked him late in a lot of my BS mocks I did. Love his upside.

Guy would be a good candidate for more of our FS type that usually stays back on the top of our defense.

The Rams have a lot of very interesting UDFA this year. I'd be surprised if a number of them didn't make the team or at least the PS.

OL looks like for the first time in years to have some decent depth. Avila changed the entire outlook for the OL. Add in Bruss, Maginn and McAlister, along with Thomas and they look totally different this year. Even Toner has been re-signed I believe and he's shown himself to be a decent veteran IOL player. Actual centers and OGs instead of converted positional players.

The OL upgrade means a better run game and better protection for Stafford. They look like they have real depth players among the UDFA group. I think this roster is going to be much better than most realize.
