It's a deeper LT class than it is for TE.
Sorry but after watching the OL if we don't actually upgrade it we can have whatever hall of famers we want at skill positions. This unit is not good enough. I'm tired of the people we put out to protect the franchise and the most important position being gambles. We are shit at run blocking and we can't keep Stafford up right. Lets throw potentially a rookie out there with great weapons but nobody worth a damn blocking for him. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

yeah our 0-line still needs a lot of work.

Again, I'll say this: this is a deeper LT class than a TE class. Lachey is the number two tight end, in my eyes (and he'll likely go a lot higher than the fifth come April). Maybe Johnny Wilson if you convert him from receiver to tight end (unlikely, but I've seen stranger things). Other than that, I don't see a bona-fide stud in the mold of a Bowers.

Meanwhile, you have guys like Mims, Suamataia, Morgan, Paul, Fautanu, Guyton, Beebe, Fisher, Goncalves, and Amegadjie - all of whom could go second day (while I see Alt, Fashanu, and Latham go early). All of them are potential left tackles at the next level (Beebe maybe moves to guard, but I could see him have a long career at left tackle as well). That's not even including the pure guards who will likely be on the second day (Mahogany and Zinter), and the two blue-chip centers in Van Pran-Granger and Barton who could end up sneaking into Round 1 consideration.

Point is, this is a deep OT class. Not so much tight end, unlike last year. And I don't think A-Jax is that big a disaster. Is he a left tackle? Of course, not, but for an undrafted free agent, he's been an absolute gem, and could probably do well at right guard.

McVay and Snead got bamboozled again on another overpaid veteran resign….This guy has completely become another JaG

Yeah.. the more this season goes on and the more I think about next year.. They really have to invest in the line.

What do you think the approach should be? Is Jackson a RT candidate? A RG candidate? or strictly a backup? That's one major question I don't know the answer to that I think is key to constructing the line next season. They need a monster LT and a badass center... If they could acquire that.. you could probably figure out the right side between Dotson, Jackson Havenstein and maybe another Tackle draft pick.

But.. the line. Period.

Well I’m more IMPRESSED with Higbee now more than ever. A True team player.

He almost helped The Rams get to the next level. Look forward to him helping to lead the Rams group again.

I always thought higbee was a bit overated - but wow when he was back this year.

You could see how much of a difference he made in the offense.

The King of the Thread Necro.

Higbee is a stud, for sure. I'm not sure how much more he has in the tank though. Still puzzles me why they paid Parkinson all that $ to use him so sparingly. Also I feel like Davis Allen makes plays almost every time he gets a chance.

Got to be reminded a bit of how effective a TE can be in McVay offense.
I would use the second round pick on a TE this year, if there is one left at that late spot worthy of the pick.

Its fascinating, McVay cut his teeth as a TE coach, ran a ton of 12 and even had some 3 TE sets in Washington. Came aboard, and we saw tons of usage for Higs/Everett and that amazing 5 game stretch to end 2019 for Higs. Since then it just seemed like the TE became an afterthought. Hopkins was a total bust. And even Higbee, save for some big moments when healthy, was minimized.
So was it the play designs or the players?
I agree that the TE can be huge in the offense and it seems to be the biggest difference from San Fran, Cincy and Minn versions of the offense
Hopefully its here to stay with Higs while he still can go, or with an additional player they bring in <cough> Michael Mayer <cough>

Unfortunately, we don't have a 2nd rounder this year. Hoping we can trade for a impactful TE and dump Parkinson's ass on someone.

I think it is a mix of players and opponents.....and other players in the O.
I do understand being able to line up guys like Woods, Gurley, Kupp, Puka etc and have the TE become an afterthought.
I think he is coming back around to more of a balanced approach. Just not run and pass balance but in terms of using players/scheme etc.

THATS what makes the second round TE this year so brilliant!!!!
I didn't realize we don't have a second, thats a bummer.

It's why I think a trade down is important to get one or two more premium picks to fill more needs. Seems to me thst there is not much drop off after you get past pick 17 or 18 at most all the way to the 40's or 50's.

So trade back, maybe a few times and add some extra 3rds and or maybe a 4th and so you get as many picks as possible in that top 100 or 125.

That way you can address RB, TE, NT, WR, RT, etc.. with higher quality picks.

The alternative would be to hit FA hard and then move up in the draft to get a difference maker in the top 15. Like a Warren, or if need be a QB, but that's a whole different scenario.

One thing to keep in mind is that we use our WRs like they're TEs. So I think McVay has essentially replaced the move TE in his offense with physical WRs. That said, I think he'd love to add a legit #2 TE to pair with Higbee so we can run more 12 personnel. We just haven't been successful finding that guy so far. I think that'll be something we make a run at this offseason.

This.

Kupp was essentially a big slot WR while also playing F tight end half the time.

He could be replaced by a TE in this offense if the right one could be found.
