I bet he wanted out, but the Rams heard about the Saints and used the tag to stop it and try to get a pick for him. If he leftvWhitworth cancels the compensation.

Now. Tru is thinking this team could win, and is content to stay.

Too late now as that deadline has passed. Only way is for him to re-sign in offseason with us as we can't tag him again. He will have to be sold on us as a team and then get a deal with us that others don't beat. Tough gamble for us as I guess we weren't sure on him or we would have got the deal done when the window was open.
Hopefully the new regime didn't blow it though we really can't blame them for having to make a decision in a small window without first hand experience. Going forward these decisions will be better calculated I would think.

I prioritize Tree and Watkins over him for sure. And Donald obviously.

If the cap goes up we might have around $45 million in cap I think - unfortunately, we paid Barron nearly $9 million per year - so that will be Tree's starting point. Probably looking at $10 million per year or so. Watkins probably $13 million per year. Donald will take up an additional $14 million or so...hopefully we can re-sign NRC too, I'm sure we'd have some deadweight to cut..

That would leave us without two safeties - but I have to think we drafted John Johnson knowing that, so really just one. If that could all work out this way, it'd be amazing

We're going to have to part ways with a good player or two this offseason. Good corners are hard to find. Not sure what cutting Barron and Austin would save after this season, but it might be in the cards. I'd cut them both if it meant we could keep Watkins, Donald, Tru, and Tree

I respect that decision by Tru.

We have a guy that actually wants to play for us, and continues to prove himself on the field, and it seems like we're just going to let him walk at the end of the year. I'm a Tru fan. If we let him walk I'll be pretty upset.

He didn't have a great season last year. And has been injured every year except one. I don't blame him for the injuries but it is what it is. He obviously hasn't signed because he thinks he's worth more than he is. I don't blame the Rams for holding firm, same goes with AD.

All due respect, just because he didn't have a ton of INT's last year doesn't mean he had a bad year.
And, he was like 4th in the league in INT's over the last 4 years. That's not easily replaced..
We can't lose JJ and Tru, IMO

I think Tru is expendable. We'll replace him next year in the draft. He's not coming back imo

I would really like for Tru to stick around. I wonder if part of the reason he didnt sign a long term deal was because he could make more being tagged this season then next off season accept a deal equal to the 1 he passed on this year. Possibly betting on himself to play lights out and raise his market value to help negotiate more next year.

Don't forget potential cap cuts in TA, Saffold and Quinn. Tough to picture now, yes, but we have an entire season to watch things unfold and tough decisions on the horizon!! Not to mention I believe Brockers will be due for an extension the following year too so extending him out may save us even more.

In a passing league you must have great corners. Tru is one of them in my opinion. I prioritize him over Tree, Austin and Barron. I'm trying to sign Wakins to a long term but if Reynolds or Thomas explode I'm saving that money for Tru or
Another top FA CB. I'm not trusting a rookie in the draft. Woods probably becomes expendable with our young WR talent. I also would have to let Quinn go if he doesn't return to form again.

It all depends how these guys play this year. But My team must have strong corners.

Brockers & Quinn are under contract thru the 2019 season. Unless traded, cutting Austin only gives us $3.mil in CAP relief for 2018. Cutting Saffold could save $6.5 mil. & cutting Barron could save another $7. mil.

I dont know why Tru didnt sign long term last year. Thats the problem. Was it him or the Rams? Tru gets paid big money already. The Rams paid more for two years of service. I dont think they will agree on a long term deal.
