The troubling saga of Rams running back Tre Mason continues. Mason, who remains on the team’s roster after a season during which he did not report for duty, has been arrested in Florida as a result of an ATV incident that occurred in July, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Mason allegedly sped past an officer who tried to stop him while driving an ATV carelessly on July 27. A warrant for his arrest was issued in December, and he was finally taken into custody on Tuesday night.

Mason has been charged with fleeing and eluding without regard for the safety of others. He was released on $5,000 bond.

The third-round pick in the 2014 draft has had multiple off-field issues, and his mother expressed concern for his well-being immediately after the ATV incident.

“Tre is not himself at all,” Tina Mason told officers at the time. “He’s not making good decisions.”

Here’s hoping that Mason has since gotten whatever help he needs, and that he will continue to do so.

He's mentally stable enough to go on vacation rent an ATV and ride it safely. But he didn't stop.for a cop because he thought he would get away with it Sounds like a stupid ass kid not someone who has mentally lost it pretty sure him and his family are just trying to milk it. I'm sure they will sue the NFL if it hasn't already happened.

Another wasted draft pick by our Rams.

Yes because everyone knows mentally unstable people can't go on vacation. Give me a break. He can be both a "stupid ass kid" and suffer mental problems. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Tre is a thug and a d!p$#!t. I wish him a nice long career in the prison system, and think he can be something special in there.

For being himself, along with an entire support system making excuses for him.

Absolutelyou not, if he's mentally unstable he should not be renting ATV's and riding them in public. And to prove my point is the end result, him getting arrested. Kind of hard to argue with facts.
I do think get people make excuses for this crap.

Why is he still on the roster?

likely cap related. I'm sure he'll be released after the end of the league year to minimize the cap ramifications.

You can rest assured, Tre Mason has no future in the NFL, let alone with the Rams.

I'm definitely among those that want him to seek serious help, but very much like Titus Young, it seems that he won't be able to get the mental health help he needs, until he bottoms out or he needs to be Baker Acted and then professionals can step in.

Much like addicts, those with serious mental health problems don't have many steps for remediation prior to serious collapse.

I mean, if he dies in the next few years and we find out he had CTE, will he still be a "thug and a dipwad?" Or will he be someone who was medically impaired and in need of medical intervention.

If we treated people like human beings and treated medical problems as actual medical problems rather than social ills, we might actually make some headway.

Sure, we might look a little Canadian in doing so, but honestly, we could stand to be nicer to one another. And, they still fight like badgers playing hockey, so...

I think we're about to find out in the next 20-30 years that a LOT of young people who die will have varying and sometimes pretty advanced levels of CTE. It's one thing when it's Mike Webster and 70 thousand hits to the head. But when it's a college kid or even a HS kid???

Based on what I know about the brain (and it's not a little bit), I'd wager that some of these young athletes who've "gone mad" or who've just suddenly "spun out of control" are just extreme cases of early CTE.

And yes, based on how he used to run at Auburn and with the Rams, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Tre Mason had CTE...NOW. And that it was already affecting his mind significantly.

That makes me sad for him and I want him to get help.

Different outlook I guess.

Why is this even on "Football Talk" should be on "Off Topic" or " Who gives a S--T!!

The man is still on the Rams roster is he not? He's still a part of the NFL. The NFL section has a subtitle:
"Discussions About the Rams and Anything NFL Related." If you're not interested in this player then don't read the thread, much less comment on it.
