Los Angeles will not have star running back Todd Gurley in the backfield on Sunday, as he has been ruled out for Week 17.

Gurley has been dealing with the effects of knee inflammation since the Week 15 loss to the Eagles. He has not practiced since. And though head coach Sean McVay said earlier in the week that Gurley not practicing would not necessarily prevent the running back from playing, the decision has been made to rest the star RB.

With Gurley out for the regular-season finale, he’ll finish the 2018 season with 1,831 yards from scrimmage — 1,251 rushing, 580 receiving. He currently leads the league with 21 total touchdowns and 17 rushing touchdowns.

C.J. Anderson is expected to start at running back against San Francisco in Gurley’s stead. In his sixth pro season out of Cal, Anderson rushed for 167 yards on 20 carries in his Rams debut last week in Arizona.
 
That's been a given for a few days now, but at least it's formally official...
 
It will be interesting to see which DB takes up a safety starting post. The main 9ers weapon still remaining healthy is their TE George Kettle. Wade might give Talib that duty & use JJ III as the high safety & use Shields or Hill in Tailb's corner spot. 9ers will be playing without both starting WR's Marquise Goodwin & Pettis injured.

Listed as Joyner's back up is 3rd yr pro FS Blake Countess. When Countess was a rookie he replace Joyner for two games back in 2016. BC also started the 9ers game last season. He has played in 36 NFL games in 3 seasons. He has not played much this season because SS Marqui Christian took up the Cody Davis position as the 3rd safety.

I would love to see that and I think Talib could make an Aeneas Williams like transition and squeeze another few seasons out of him.

I think we all knew that was coming with Todd. Surprised he put it out there though. Coulda made the Niners sweat a little more.

As for the Joyner. Meh. I’m sure Christian gets more snaps. But I like seeing our secondary with JJ, Talib, Peters, NRC and Shields. That’s just me. I just trust that group more.

Interesting that both Rams & da Bears play at the same time.

Oh I dont think he plays anything like Aeneas except both are / were excellent at watching QBs and breaking on the ball to get picks.

I believe Talib is cerebral enough and has enough in his legs to make a decent FS.
