I could not imagine the guilt in his mind and heart right now. Hopefully he is able to find some peace knowing that she went home and will be there waiting on him. Prayers with him and his family...I simply could not imagine.

Ex-NFL player Todd Heap accidentally kills 3-year-old daughter while moving truck

PHOENIX -- Authorities say former NFL player Todd Heap was moving a truck that ran over and killed his 3-year-old daughter in the driveway of their suburban Phoenix home.

The Arizona Republic reported that police say Heap was behind the wheel of the truck when he accidentally struck the girl while moving the vehicle forward outside their home in Mesa on Friday afternoon.

Officials said the girl was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Mesa police said impairment was not a factor.

Heap played in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals. He played at Arizona State University, where he was a two-time All-Pac-10 selection.

Heap and his wife Ashley have four other children. In 2010, Heap had a pediatric center in Baltimore named after him, according to the Washington Post.

When I saw this article this morning I couldn't fathom what he and his family are going through. Absolutely horrific.

It came across as an alert from my bleacher app at like midnight or so. Took me a bit to fall back to sleep. Just terrible. He seems like a great guy

Talk about heartbreaking. How do you ever recover from something like that? Terrible, just simply terrible... Thoughts and prayers go out to the Heap family.

I just read the same article and I wish I hadn't. I can't even imagine that level of grief. Heap was a beloved player and fan favorite here in MD and I hope he is able to come through this with his sanity in tact. Brutal....

With a pediatric wing named after him, you know he was one of those people who had a special place in his heart for all kids. One of the most heartbreaking family losses I've ever read about.

This is so Sad, I can't read past the Title!!!!! I have custody of my 3 almost 4 year old Grand-Daughter, and I know how I would feel!! It has to be Devastating!! My heart-felt sympathies go out to him and his family!!!

Horrible.
Lost our then 16 year old boy 13 years ago yesterday in a car accident. Years later that emotional hang over is still there.
Never totally clears. Long road ahead for him and his family.
I hope he gets professional help when he is ready. This sort of thing changes how you see and feel nearly everything.
Hope he survives it. One thing that happens a lot is divorce....my wife and I split then got back together later.
All the "part of the plan" BS....that is emptiness.
I'm rambling.
Love to him and his family.

wow , I couldn't even imagine anything more horrible then that

May i ask what led to you having a divorce?

.

Couldn't even imagine what he and his family are going through :(

Very heartbreaking and very very unusually relatable to me since this happened to me when I was 2 and a half. Lucky to be a survivor of a eerily similar situation. My heart goes out to him, his family, and my mind is with his little girl.

I've read that divorce rates after the loss of a child is extremely high. They were college sweethearts. I remember from HardKnocks his rookie year. Hopefully that will help them through. And I'm sure the "better place" shit means absolutely nothing.

Having a daughter myself my heart just completely sank in my stomach when I saw this. My heart goes out to him. There really are no words..Beyond sucks.

Going through some really tough stuff in my family right now, a lot of loss recently and some more terrible news came yesterday about my wife's Dad while getting our daughter ready for her Senior Prom last night...... just a whirlwind of shit.. but at the same time, despite all that, I always have that reminder running through my mind: "Count your blessings - it could always be worse."

For Todd Heap and his family? My God, I can't even...nor do I ever want to....

Share your time with the ones that you love!!!

My parents were married for 25 years and my mom almost divorced my father when my sister died, and it wasn't due to anything he did.

Very tragic, I can't imagine what he's going through, hopefully he gets a lot of support. This is something that can pull a man to suicide.

We split and got back together.
Each of us was so wrapped up in our own grief and stuff it was hard to really be there for the other person. Unintentional walls went up. After some time you can start to relate to other people again.
