Time to give McVAY more power

If there's one thing I like about Snead, it's that he's philosophically fluid with his respective head coach.

Snead put a lot of emphasis on drafting to build a healthy nucleus during Fisher's tenure here, then dropped a lot of chips under McVay to push us for a Super Bowl title that we were possibly a Cooks drop away from winning.

I'm not worried about Snead, I'll give the Cooks and Gurley contracts the benefit of hindsight; we tend to forget that we scored a sweet deal with Donald after the lengthy contract talks and the Goff contract is still WIP.

It's an opportunity for the front office to grow and learn together.

While, I certainly haven’t agreed with all Coach McVay’s decisions (Play Calling & Personnel) I still do have the upmost respect and confidence in him and I am Absolutely Thrilled that he is the Rams Head Coach and personally hope he remains the Rams Head Coach for many years! I will admit that I hated seeing some of the Rams players who recently got cut/released but I do think McVay will have the Rams ready for the start of the season and I honestly believe that they will be very competitive in a very, very tough NFC WEST DIVISION!!!

I disagree Dog (re: crowning McVay too soon).

IMO McVay is the best thing to happen to this organization since Vermiel came out of retirement for us. He is the face of the franchise. Or should be IMO. 90% of the coaches in the NFL would have finished .500 or less with that roster he started the season with. The OL dice roll that came up snake eyes was bad enough, but then the Gurley situation on top of it was simply brutal.

That last game vs the 9ers shows how good McVay is. We had no business playing them to the last possession like we did. McVay is why that happened, his moving pocket with the boots and rollouts neutralized Bosa and allowed us to compete. So for me it's critical that the Rams get right in supporting him and keep that MFer in horns. The dude is 32. He's gonna get better and better.

To be clear....I’m not down at all on our coach. He’s still an electrifying person and I’m glad we got him. I’m just saying that we may have seen him become mere mortal, and should resist giving him more responsibility until he proves he can handle what he currently has. There were enough doubts cast last year and I’d like to see those put to rest.

Right on. And I think you are correct. (y)

No coach can overcome a poor roster. Talent does matter. I don't think this is a poor roster mind you, but it's definitely not an elite roster now. So yeah hopefully the Rams can keep this in mind if we struggle this year.
 


The thing you arent taking into account is the philosophy that trading draft picks for proven talent is better than drafting unknown players.

I'm not saying it IS better - just that it is one way to go. And IMO we haven't made a trade that I felt was terrible.

Fans have a tendency to over value draft picks - you want to have more shots at it but I like their combination of trading and drafting, and trading the first round picks doesn't bother me. Their first draft was unbelievable and it appears their third will turn out really well too.

I think it's time to identify a core (Goff/Kupp/AD/Ramsey so far) to keep at all costs and then build around them with draft picks (and stop trading those picks away)

Well, I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed and holding my breath that the Rams & Ramsey can agree to an extended contract!!! I was thrilled that the Rams got Ramsey BUT was very disappointed and concerned that they didn’t get Ramsey to agree on extension before the trade was finalized!!!

I disagree. There's no proven model that trading draft picks for established players works. It's a short team move where if you don't win that season or the one after you begin to feel the pain. We're in the stage right now. Obviously you have to draft well or either approach is bad. But it's always better to have guys on their rookie deals. Especially when you're in a cap situation like ours.

Fair enough, but my post about Demoff I believe plays a bigger part of it. He should be more understanding of the cap price.

Say what you want about the OFFENSIVE LINE. I Predicted it (happy)& Gurley has to go ass well.

-Clay & Coleman getting cut is because of YOUTH. The veteran Leadership is not needed anymore. The Locker Room is estimated now.
Snead not signing Cory Littleton to a Real Contract pisses me off, but a Comp pick for a UDFA is not bad.

I really dont think things are as bleak as some people here seem to think. The young players that played last year have a lot of potential and stand to improve. FO is shoring up the run D. The offence had an off year, but the Oline was improving along with some playcalling changes. Also, the cooks trade and contract was a big piece of the success of the offence.
I think last season we expected to much based off of the superbowl run. This year I think some of us are doom and gloom based off of a predictable under performing season last year. C-H-I-L-L. The rams will be a force this year. I predict they will win at least one playoff game. GO RAMS
