I got to believe the 2021 NFC Championship Game loss to the Rams has to haunt many 49ers' fans.

I can't speak for any other die-hard sports' fans but as a 50-plus-year Rams' die-hard, for me, the most painful losses (aside from the Super Bowls) were the two NFC Championship Game losses in Minnesota all the way back in 1974 and 1976.

And the reasons are the same. The Rams were as good or better than the Vikings those seasons; AND, in my opinion, the Rams were the better team those two days but lost heart-breaking games that denied them a Super Bowl appearance.

The Rams have lost other huge playoff games in my half century of fandom (FUCK! I am old!).
Their record in NFC Championship Games, prior to the Greatest Show on Turf in 1999, was an awful 1-6.
I remember them all very well; and the Rams had some excellent teams those seasons. However, the other four losses (excluding the MN games in '74 and '76) were to teams that were Much Better that specific day.
I can ... and have ... accepted that. But those two losses to the Vikings haunt me.

No complaints though, I have many great memories of terrific post-season victories. A few of which were games where the Rams may not have been the better team even on that particular day. Things do balance out ... if you live to be an old-fart like me.

By-the-way, the Rams are 4-0 in NFC Championship Games since 1999!

Problem is that you can't control that and thousands of season tickets are bought in LA with the intent to sell them to the highest bidder. They know there is money to be made - especially if the Rams are good.

Dodgers games are the best attended games in baseball, both home and away year after year. Watch an away Dodger game. Many times the blue hats way outnumber the home colors.

Football is a different matter all together. There are only 17 games and many fans plan whole vacations around football games. I've done it around Rams games in cities that are nowhere near as tourist oriented and popular as LA.

You have to figure that you can go to Malibu, Disneyland, walk of fame, skiing in Big Bear or Mammoth, take a boat ride to Catalina island, etc.. etc... etc... in the dead of winter and likely be dealing with great weather.

It's also why I don't buy Spanos' rationale for leaving SD. That stadium was always packed. Granted, it was generally with opposing team fans - including Rams fans - but the weather in SD is almost perfect year round. He just wanted someone else to pay for a stadium.

I will say that before Georgia pulled her shit show of running the team, the Rams were at the top of attendance and most of the fans were wearing blue. But that was before the absolute explosion of the NFL as THE ticket.

But that stadium absolutely sucked for a football game and Georgia was already destroying the team with intent.

The Rams had a solid fanbase before they moved to Orange County. If I remember right-- I think they lost 1/3rd of their fans. In the 1960s-- they filled up the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with 100,000 plus fans.

Exactly. I watched games as a kid in the coliseum and it was almost all Rams fans with huge attendance. Even when OJ came to town with the Bills, there were like 90% Rams fans. The big A sucked.

If Kroenke wants more Ram fans maybe he should give us a price break. But that isn't going to happen.

Yeah. I think you're being myopic. The Dodgers have been there for many decades in the same stadium and have almost always been in contention. Same for the Lakers. The Kings have a home rink but rarely does ANYONE travel for hockey. They should but they don't. And NO ONE really cares about soccer.

I will say, Rams could do a better job highlighting the stars at the game. Interviewing them (if they're willing), etc... this city is still run on movie and TV stars (though that's in big decline) and Rams need to highlight the connection between the stars and the team.
