Who thinks the Rams should convert WR Thomas to backup cornerback? The Rams, I think need a CB more than another receiver. Plus, Thomas' hands seem to be better suited to cornerback work. I know it's a hugely different position and good CBs are hard to find. Just a thought. I know it's not necessarily a good fit. It may be the worst idea ever. I know. Maybe he could be a dual purpose sort of guy playing WR/CB? Let the flaming begin, ha ha.

I understand the concept, and the skill set isn't much different, but the mentality certainly is. I don't see any effective way to make a transition like this at the NFL level.

I think it is unlikely that Watkins will return after this season. He will probably want to get paid and go somewhere that he is the true #1. I hope this is not the case, but I think it will happen. Reynolds/Thomas will be the guy(s) filling that role, so it will be interesting to see if one or both of them gets an increased role as the season moves on.

Thomas is a nice talent, but remember, he really hasn't done anything of note other than dropping a great Goff pass against the Hags last year.

Wait, what? Has the man EVER played CB? How is he qualified? I am not flaming, just wondering what you know about this guy that makes that a possibility?

If we are just spit balling ideas, then I think the Rams should train a mule to kick FGs.

It's an interesting idea. Michigan State had a wide receiver who was converted into a cornerback when he was drafted by the Dolphins (Tony Lippett). But Lippett played cornerback until his sophomore year.

It's a lot more than just tackling and having good hands for the position.

Only WR capable of playing D that they have is Pharroh Cooper. He is physical and at 5-11 207, has some thickness, but he us too slow for CB... would be an interesting safety prospect.

It is an idea... but these conversions rarely work and they are usually based on desperation.

A better idea would be to bring somebody up off the practice squad if needed. ( though I know you're trying to fit Thomas onto a 53-man roster. )

Really depends on the player.

Richard Sherman was a converted WR.

A LOT of his success is the way Carroll teaches his dbs to play.

I don't like Carroll for plenty of reasons, but he's a damn genius teaching DBs and his tackling method should be SOP for every level of football down to Pop Warner.

It's doable ... are we forgetting the legend the sure fire HOFer the Phoenix that rose from
The ashes former WR turned DB

MIKE "the monster" FURREY

I thought he was db turned wr? Then went to Detroit.

Thank God...I thought it was having a low-life like me as a neighbor to the southeast... I feel better about myself...How's Reno ???
Love it. After last year's rain especially. So much to do here just a short drive or walk from where we live. Oddly, we are doing way more kayaking here than we ever did in Oregon too.

Yeah, I was thinking about him too. But I agree he wouldn't be a good fit at CB.

I don't think it's that crazy. Made the same suggestion a while back to take a look at him at safety, since he has such good pursuit and tackling instincts. Dude is a natural.

But since that time Joyner seems to be holding it down and I am not sure he's got enough quicks for manning up at CB in this defense.

would said mule lead the league in scoring as the kicker we have now does?

I'll stick with GZ

Thomas played at DuSable High School (IL) and was listed as a WR only. It was a small enough roster that a majority of players were listed on both sides of the ball. I'm thinking he's got zero experience at DB.
