The word I'm hearing from different people (people directly involved with the NFL not media) that cheapass Spanos is debating on not extending Justin Herbert on his 5th year option.

Snead should jump on this and offer cheapass Chargers multiple 1's for Herbert. This guy is the real deal and is already an elite QB. He would make this a legit SB contender immediately.

Yeah, Stafford would be a problem but not one that couldn't be solved. After all it's only for one year with Stafford. This would be Herbert's final rookie contract year. If the Rams were willing to play Stafford $50.5M in 2025, Herbert is worth that. It would blow the Super Bowl window wide open for years. The Rams would jump to the head of the division immediately.

Herbert in McVay's offense would be mind-blowing. LA people don't understand exactly how cheap Spanos is and how real his greed is. Extending Herbert is a no brainer so for this "rumor" to have this amount of traction gives it veracity that it wouldn't normally have. Telesco wants it done but Spanos is apparently pumping the brakes. Why? Because apparently, Spanos thinks he can get Buttface as HC but Herbert wants Staley and apparently Justin contractually has a say.

LMAO @ Spanos

I actually want to believe that's true, but I have a feeling if the Chargers were going to trade Herbert the Rams would be last on their list unless Stan included several years of free rent.

Absolutely.

Even if the Chargers were going to move Herbert, there are so many teams with greater draft capital to move than the Rams.

I can't see that happening he has proved he is a complete QB and top 5-7 in the league and 2hen Brady and Rodgers hang it up he is minimum top 5. We all know Spanos is cheap but not stupid. He realizes that no Herbert no ticket sales. He's not that stupid.

Whatever the truth is, Herbert couldn't elevate his team to score more than three points in the second half vs the Jags. He was not clutch like a a Super Bowl winning QB should be, therefore I'd rather have Stafford for 2-3 years more than the Renter's QB.

Well, your source is quite frankly an idiot who should probably learn math before trying to understand football.
Being "cheap" is irrelevant since the team will spend annually in accordance to what the cap will allow.
If the Cap is 250 mill in 2024, it doesnt matter if Herbert is getting 20 mill or 0, they will still be spending (in theory) 250 mill

Even though I suspect @oldnotdead is suffering from payote overdose here I have to say that nothing would surprise me with Spanos. The cheap bastid.

Guys like him are the worst to work for. The hand wringers. Fear managers who make decisions based on their internal and manufactured worries over what others will say. So I don't think it's likely or anything but I could see it.

I don’t know about Herbert to the Rams. Would probably need to give up Rob Havenstein to make it work, and none of us would want to do that … ;)
nor would we want to slide Tutu off the edge... :woozy2:

Mr. #9 Clutch is a sure winner with a fully functional OL!

Just how Mr.Clutch will he be, if the Rams Org. doesn't get this OL back into fully smooth operation? #9 career will not continue long if the Rams do not make this current non-functioning OL it's #1 priority in the off season, starting with NOT depending on injury prone Ol'ers as starters.

There will be a mega amount of Cap funds $$$ involved in the IR if #9 can not remain upright. #9 only managed to take 58% of this past season's snaps due to injury.

In less than a year ago #9 signed a 4-year, $160 mil contract, including a $60 mil signing bonus, $130 mil guaranteed, & an average annual salary of $40 mil. In 2023, #9 earn a base salary of $1.5 mil & a signing bonus of $26 Mil while carrying a cap hit of $20 mil & a dead cap value close to $50 million.

You are preaching to the choir, as far as the Oline is concerned. McSnead has work to do...

Herbert isn't going anywhere. I know the Chargers can make some dumb decisions. But I don't see it in this case. Herbert is good young quarterback who could be reaching elite status soon. No, he's not in Mahomes or Allen's class. Maybe not even Burrow's. But he's not far from it. Chargers would be a laughingstock if they didn't do what they can to keep him.
