The Niners, just like the Rams, have been aggressive since 2017 with trades of high picks for players.
It's true, they have not 'won the big one', but they have been successful, with wins and playoff appearances ... 3 Western Division titles (same as the Rams) ... 2 Super Bowls (same as the Rams) ... 4 NFC Championship Games (two more than the Rams).
2020 … 2nd for Dee Ford … and in another move, 3rd and 4th for Emmanuel Sanders ... similar to the Rams trading a 2nd for Sammy Watkins in 2017 and a 1st for Brandin Cooks in 2018
2021 … three #1s and a 3rd for Trey Lance ... similar to the Rams' Goff trade-up but totally unsuccessful … and, they were in on the Stafford trade but the Rams won-out
2022 … 2nd, 3rd and 4th for Cristian McCaffrey … similar to Stafford but, in that case, the Niners won-out by out-bidding the Rams ... believe the Rams lacked a 4th round pick to include in their offer
2023 … 3rd for a two-month-rental Chase Young ... another unsuccessful move but similar to the Von Miller situation where the Rams gave-up a 2nd and 3rd but Denver also took-on most of Miller's remaining cap hit because the Rams were cap-constrained
Winning the Lombardi makes a huge difference. Would prefer that to the four NFC Championship appearances. However, the Niners approach of trading high pick for players to help them win immediately has been very similar to the Rams.
