We do not need depth - we need starters from this draft for 2020-2021. It would help our CAP situation and, I believe, propel us back into contention

There will be top prospects at MLB OL DT available deep into round 2

We should sacrifice later picks and go get two players who can start straight away and elevate our play from last season

For me, Kenneth Murray MLB needs help with technique but has amazing physical skills that could help take our defense over the top. Ruiz would be my second pick. I would not wait until the 3rd round when he would be likely gone. Both could become +starters to my view

What do you think? Who would you pick?

I move this thread from the draft section to NFL Talk.

With the season over, each year we shift draft talk to Rams NFL Talk. It’s the dominant topic (the draft) for the next couple of months... so let’s talk about it!

We will keep mock drafts, in the draft forum.

We’ve found in recent years it’s easier this way. So many topics touch the draft, trades, etc... It feels like NFL talk for this stretch.

Thank you!

Thanks for clarifying that. Even when I know the draft talk section is there I often forget to check it out. Think this is a good call. (y)

I think each draft is different and it comes down to how guys are going off the board and where the Rams feel the players they really like will have value. Also in general Snead seems to have a preference of moving down and adding picks if he does move, particularly when the next group on the board don't have too much dropoff. That plus the fact the Rams have lost draft capital taking shots at the Super Bowl and do have roster depth weaknesses mean a drop down is possible IMO.

He's gonna have his eye on a couple ILBs, a few edge types, a few OL, a couple wideouts, etc., etc., who are in that "should be gone before 52" group. But at least one of them will get to 52 so just take that one or the one you like the most out of the options.

I'm hoping for a physicality draft, personally. FA is still pending of course, but we are in need of 5T, ILB, OLB, and OL. Other things like wideout are in fact needs too, but hopefully whatever Snead does he addresses the physicality issue this team has had since that Bears game in late 2018.

I just hope they get a guy with their first pick that ends up starting. OL, DL, edge, LB. Any of those fills a hole.

I wouldn’t mind this one but if a starter is sitting there about to be scooped up!

Miami has a lot of high picks (3 first, 2 second round & 13 in total) and a lot of needs . Miami also currently has more listed CAP space than every other NFL team at $93,732,524. I'd like to see the Rams trade Fowler, Everett & Robey-Coleman to them for a high 2'nd and 3'rd round draft pick. jmo.

It would actually make sense for Miami to consider something like this. A proven NFL performer over the crap shoot that is the Draft. They could use Fowler and NRC but I'd like to keep Everett.

I'm not sure I can agree at OLB as we have depth already that doesn't see much playing time all that often. Obo, Polite, Durham, Carraway, Holland & Patrick, ... that's quite a bit of unrealized talent, and I have to believe at least one of them may be ready to step up as a rotational starter. Ebukam may be retaking his starting role on the other side if Matthews becomes a CAP casualty.
No doubt that the importance of a strong Edge OLB is welcome, but I wonder if our new DC who previously coached under Fanzio may place more emphasis at 5T with our limited number of draft picks ?

With Ramsey, Kupp, JJ3 & Everett all becoming free agent eligible in 2021, i'm not sure we can extend them all. Of these 4 players, Everett is the one i'd probably prefer to sacrifice, and since Higbee is our dominant TE, i'd just draft another. jmo.

Yep, that is a valid consideration as well. Get something for him while we can, when we have limited draft picks. I'd still be sad to see him go. I'll never forget that tip-toeing TD down the sideline in the greatest Thursday night game ever!!

5T is definitely a bigger hole in the roster. You have Fox, or one of the NT types as options there. We need length and strength that can hold up in the run game.

OLB might produce a find out of that group but if and when one an upgrade at pass rusher is there (which it might be at 52) when you're on the clock you make the move. It's a lesser need than 5T certainly, but still a need.

We can agree to disagree at OLB, I still see it as more of a luxury considering our lack of 2020 picks. 5T, OT & ILB is where I hope to see our earliest picks made. I also have very little faith in Reeder and Kiser and hope to see an ILB drafted and another brought in as a free agent. jmo.

I agree with not over reaching. I am usually in favour of picking up more picks but we need to think about both the cap and the holes in our starting line ups. I named two players that we could potentially tartget without giving up the world

Who do you like to start straight away?

I agree with you that the Rams need starters over depth. Rams and Snead have been going for depth in the McVay era because the cupboards were kink of bare. Even though special teams took a downturn I think the roster his much deeper at the end of roster talent. Snead seems to target certain players and has been able to get them even trading down. I can see them trading up for a player like Ruiz. It is still early in the offseason process. Questions must be answered first like.

Are the Rams going to be able to get a draft pick for Fowler?

Will Rams make other trades we have mentioned?

I don't see Snead being locked in and it wouldn't surprise me if he traded up this year. I'm not sure about Murray at this point.

Quality offensive linemen can be found later in the draft and inexpensively through free agency.

The Chiefs and 49ers both drafted a left tackle in the first round (Staley and Fisher), San Francisco's right tackle (McGlinchey) is also a first rounder. The rest of their super bowl starting O-lines were acquired through a trade (Tomlinson), waivers, (Reiter), three UDFAs (Garland, Schwartz and Person), a street free agent (Wisniewski) and a sixth-round pick (Duveney-Tardif).
