Mine was OJ Simpson. I wanted him so badly for the Rams in the 1969 NFL/AFL Draft. I realized that I must have been a fan of both USC and the Rams in 1968 when I was 4 years old. The Rams came in second in the Pacific coastal division and had no chance in getting the #1 overall pick in the draft in '69.

So who is your first Draft Crush, whether realistic or not?


A fun fact that the Buffalo Bills drafted OJ Simpson with the #1 overall pick and the Bills also drafted former Ram's QB James Harris in the same draft. Also, former Ram Fred Dryer was drafted by the NY Giants in 1969. Could you imagine Bills having Harris and Simpson on the same offense?

I've always been more of a post-draft crush type of guy.

I remember hearing about the Rams drafting Eric Dickerson and Reading about him in Street and Smith's and other Pro Football Magazines that covered the draft and predicted the upcoming season. I got pretty excited.

Then when I watched him live his Rookie season vs the Niners at Candestick park in S.F. and he tore them a new one. Running wild like a wild stallion. Everyone was in awe.

It was lovely.

Fred Dryer talks about his time at San Diego State. Marshall Faulk returning a Kickoff against USC just keeps that Rams SDSU thing a live.

Elvis Peacock. We took him in the first round in '78. Big, fast kid from Oklahoma. And what a great name! How could he fail? I thought for sure he'd be a stud, but he was beaten out by a little guy we drafted the year before, in the 3rd round, one Wendell Tyler.

If I recall correctly, injuries were a huge factor. One year … believe it was 1980, Peacock was having a big season and the Rams were scoring a ton of points but then he was injured, and the Rams were out of the Playoffs in the first round. Don’t know that Elvis Peacock played much after that.

I followed Jim Everett's college career after watching him beat Notre Dame as a Junior. Of course I had hoped the Rams could draft him, but his stock rose and it seemed no chance. But hey, we brought in Steve Bartkowski to replace the legendary Dieter Brock, glad that didnt work out...
Also from that class (I think) was Robbie Bosco, he was my 2nd choice
I was in high school then and I feel like the draft was still new to being broadcast. Pete Rozelle will always be a legend for pulling that off
 
Gaston Green, was quicker than a hiccup.. didn't work out so well.

What could have been. At least we didn't pick right before he and Lambert went off the board. We went after them in round two.

BTW Raiders may have repeated history with another fine TE of Notre Dame heritage.
