I watched the whole game because I wanted Goff to do well. He has a lousy team around him and would be wise to seek a trade any way he can. Goff won't last there for 11 years like Stafford did.

He also said that the trade to Detroit came out of the blue....so someone is not aware of his surroundings it seems because he can't ever see it coming. If you're being asked by the team to restructure and you say no...how can you be blindsided by the trade?

Goff may be okay to stay there knowing he will be taking his lumps the first two years or so because I like that front office and I believe in year 3 they are going to be a contending team.

They need to get some receivers and a defense to get that team going.

I like their offensive line, their running backs and their TE. That has the making of a really good offense if they can find some above average WRs.

Should they have gone for a FG or ran up the middle instead?

Then GB got a TD to make it 28-17 then Goff fumbled a snap (bad hands by Goff on a wet ball) and GB went up 35-17 and then Goff just dropped the ball (no pressure really just slipped a wet ball out of his hands) and then GB started dialing up the pressure and Goff did a bad decision on 4th and 2.

So really if it wasn't for a slippery ball that Goff fumbled twice - Goff wasn't playing poorly until the 4th and 2 interception late in the 4th qtr. (But don't get me wrong - fumbling twice in back to back series just because the ball was wet reflects very poorly on Goff's ability to play in poor weather.)

That contract for Detroit isn't that bad.

They are responsible for 25 million a year for 3 years which isn't horrible numbers for a QB of Goff's caliber the way QB salaries are right now.

In addition, they could get rid of Goff next year and only have a cap hit of 15 million and after two years - 0 cap hit.

Jared is a good QB. The problem is he needs a supporting cast, i.e. decent OL play and a strong run game. On the flip side, constantly playing from behind will make any QB look bad. The problem with the Lions is their crap defense who can't stop anyone. Give Jared a decent OL, run game, and good defense, and he can be that 2018 type of QB once again.

With two first round picks in the next two years, Holmes can build that defense and OL quickly. I think if Campbell can be patient with Goff they have a QB they can build around. Once they get Decker off of IR they can move Sewell back to RT than it will give them Decker and Sewell at OTs and Ragnow at C which is a very good start on building that OL.

Detroit has 4 picks in the first 3 rounds (2 first, 1 second and third). Holmes knows how to draft having been with the Rams since 2003 and named director of college scouting in 2013. So Brad has seen both how to draft well and how not to draft well that's why I expect the Lions to be a completely different team in 2023.

Look how Snead turned things around in LA. IMO Holmes could very well do the same in Detroit. Building a team starts in the FO that's why teams like the Jets will be doormats for a long time. They had a good QB and didn't even know it. They don't understand that even the best QB needs a team around him to be successful. Look no farther than Stafford to see the truth in that.

When the Rams beat the Bucs it will be a statement win. It will put the entire NFL on notice that there is a big dog in the house. Remember, the Rams are built much like the Bucs who chewed up KC and spit them out in the Super Bowl. It's why teams like KC, Baltimore, and AZ will tank if they lose their QB. But the Rams can keep rolling with either Wolford or Perkins. The QB only needs to play well and not lose the game for this team to stay in the hunt.

Sorry, but I don't get the fierce desire to see something in Goff that just isn't there. Backbreaking, unforced turnovers are his special. The fumble had nothing to do with anything but the snap exchange and Goff was lucky he didn't have another fumble recovered by GB when he literally dropped the ball.

In his 5 years with the Rams - I do not remember him ever dropping a snap exchange (it could have happened but it is rare) and never saw him just drop the ball on a pass play. But then again, we got lucky and almost never played in the rain with Goff.

Goff lead the NFL in turnovers his last two years. This wasn't an anomaly.
And Rogers was playing in the same conditions.

What am I missing? I'm not a Goff "hater"... I'm just looking at what's in front of us.

The majority of Goff's turnovers last two years was and I hate to keep harping on him - Blythe's guy putting pressure on Goff

Look at each turnover - Goff is pressured on almost every one.

Yes - Goff isn't the best under pressure but give him time like Stafford has in his two games with the Rams and Goff does an above average job. Definitely not as good as Stafford but still good enough to win those two games.

But the games would probably be closer and giving each of us a heart attack lol

And again - on the game last night - Goff drops wet footballs and Rodgers doesn't. It is just a good thing Goff plays in Detroit with a dome or he would be screwed playing in either Green Bay or Chicago

But I want to stress - I am glad we moved on with Stafford because although I think Goff could have eventually lead us to another Super Bowl with a better center, I am a lot more confident that Stafford will lead us to a Super Bowl.

I guess one of the reasons the Goff stuff gets my attention is that I think it relates to evaluating the Rams.

If you’re blaming others for Goff’s failures, you’re creating issues in the team that just don’t exist, imo.
That’s different, btw, than pointing out the mistakes the Rams made in evaluating Goff and his potential when they gave him the big contract.

Goff played great in the 1st half, terrible in the 2nd half. But please we need to keep things in perspective. The GB Packers had zero QB pressures for the entire game. ZERO!! That is unbelievable. If you were told Jared Goff could play an entire game and not get sacked, and not even get pressured, you would bet a ton of money he wins that game right? Because that's when Goff is great. What does this game look like if Goff was pressured a normal amount and took a few sacks, like he would against any decent defense?? The GB pass rush is a complete joke with Za'Darius Smith on IR. The one sack Goff was "credited" with was when he ran out of bounds behind the LOS.
