There has never been a better time to find sports apparel and memorabilia. Titans fan in Alaska? Saints fan in Spain? There are numerous websites to find what you seek. (Including, we will add helpfully, this one.)

However, the knick-knacks we find unexpectedly can be the most enjoyable to secure.

And sometimes, we find them in the oddest places.

For instance, on Sunday, I picked up the Gus Frerotte figurine pictured here for a cool $1.99 in a dollar/discount store. I went in looking for old-school sports apparel, and I came out with . . . well, a Gus Frerotte action figure with a head sized disproportionately big relative to the rest of its body. It’s now in my home office, to be treasured until it is “accidentally” lost in a move or a spring cleaning.

eBay can be a treasure trove for interesting older NFL stuff. For a time in college, I collected vintage NFL ski caps. (The Steelers one, it should be noted, is an original; I would suspect I’ve had that since 1983.)

Anyways, with Bud Grant’s spectacular garage sale on the mind, let’s open it up to PFT Planet. What’s the best piece of NFL memorabilia or apparel you have ever found in an unexpected place? It can be any memento, and it can be from anywhere you weren’t looking — maybe a garage sale, a yard sale, a strange outlet mall, an unlicensed vendor selling knock-off stuff outside a stadium.

I don't have anything overly cool for this topic... but I do have a Joe Klopfenstein autographed wooden football.

If the power goes out long enough, and the house gets cold, this is the first thing I'm burning.

I went to this store ROSS one day, just looking for some t-shirts, and came across a leather Rams jacket originally listed at $350.00 - marked down to $85. ROSS is a store that gets all the department stores' hand-me-downs and rejects and then sells them at a huge discount. Usually there's just some imperfection in the screen print or a scuff on a shoe ... things like that. I usually only find one thing in the whole store that I like, but that day was a huge score. The only sports team leather jacket in there (in Florida), and it happened to be a Rams jacket. And it fit. Awesome.

It's gotta be my youth size 6 Jack Youngblood jersey I wore as a kid

My mother was notorious for throwing away your prized possessions of youth to make room for some new beige exercise bike or to store more discount shoes
- the stuff wasn't exactly valuable but cool things like your cross bows and catapults games or 1st edition D&D modules.

She did though save a few boxes when she moved out of our childhood home -- I was like 26 at the time - well one box was marked "books" and she said it was my high school thesaurus. No need to open that and I stored it away.

well years later I was clearing out my garage and went I to this box and there wrapping some worthless dictionary was my jersey!!! What a find it was!! Hopefully this counts.

It's really tiny but I swear it was huge on me back in the day - tried to put my Rams hat beside it to give some scale....

I also found my most favorite, brand new with original tags, Rams polo style shirt, at goodwill on an apparel sale day. $1.40... I had just admired and priced it at retail for $70 a few days before. I wasn't even shopping, just helping my daughter make a medieval costume for school. And there it was, on the new product rack, in my size.

Silky smooth.

Wrinkle free.

Stitched monogram logo.

Spilled beer rolls right off.

Earlier this year, I chanced on a game program for the 1st game I ever went to with my Dad in 1973. It was Rams vs Browns at the LA Coliseum. The Rams won.......My Dad is gone now, so I was glad to get the program!

Been collecting for 50 years and I'll sell any of it as I've been waiting for Bonifay Ram to drop by and see it all and relay to everyone its true. I sell under arams41 on ebay and have the largest Warner card collection on the planet. I also have every other Ram you can name and most always their rookie card and autographs of all our failed draft picks too. I knowing you are from here would sell at cost or better. Absolutely way too many things in so many rare and short numbered Helmets jerseys footballs and tons of LA Rams stuff along with just as many St. Louis stuff.

From miniture Ed Jones dome to put Jewelry in as the ceramic heavy roof comes off with people and even the goal posts. Helmets that flash the horns on the side of our helmets in fiber optics in different patterns. So many books on everything ever Ram Leather to coaching satin jackets in the John Robinson mode in both yellow Gold and the Blue also. Balfour rings of L.A. and St. Louis and too many pins to mention of everything you can dream of in Rams. Its just insanity. Hat,Hats Hats in green garbage bags in a walk in closet. Made scrap books of every game and tickets and article since the beginning of Ram time with all embraceable Ewes and stuff bought at those games. The 1983 New Orleans Mike Lansford barefoot 42 yard game winner with no time left as it was the last game of season and playoffs for us and the Bum Phillips led Earl Campbell Saints first chance to go to playoffs.Lucky to get out alive.
