Yeah.
Brown was one of the two Place-kickers the Rams signed right after the Draft. Christopher Dunn was the other but was subsequently released.
Right now, Tanner Brown IS the Rams' Kicker. And, you WILL respect him.

Place Kicker, Holder, Punter, and Long Snapper... heck, even our returners. All new in 2023.
With the exception of returner, we've had many years of solid punting and place kicking.

Of all the guys they let go and moved-on from, the two I wish the Rams had held onto were Gaines and Gay.Place Kicker, Holder, Punter, and Long Snapper... heck, even our returners. All new in 2023.
With the exception of returner, we've had many years of solid punting and place kicking.

We sort of "lucked into" Gay. He was so solid. Strong leg too.
But yeah... It makes me nervous. Nothing sucks more than losing games due to missed kicks.
There are a lot of vet kickers still on the market if Tanner comes out shakey... But it's hard to get kicking on track when you're plugging in kickers on the fly.

I couldn't agree more. Good PK aren't that easy to find. It took Koo a few seasons to prove he could do it at this level. Gaines was allowed to walk because Morris didn't want him, as he wasn't one of his guys. Gaines is a pure 1T and instead of playing to his strength, Morris insisted on playing him as a 0T NT because he insists upon playing an archaic Fangio style defense with a two gap NT and everyone else playing a read/react one gap instead of attacking that single gap. He gives all the advantages to the OL. That is one of the reasons, Morris will never be a top DC. He doesn't play to the talent on his roster like having Ramsey play 10 yds in off coverage on an XWR on third and short.
Another reason to get rid of that pile Morris.
We lost a fine asset because of that pea brain.

Just a gentle warning: we do not insult the players, coaches, or front office of this team. That's been ROD's rules for quite some time, and I think a refresher is needed. You can criticize them, you can be frustrated in the vent threads, but never can you insult them with "pile of shit" (I'm assuming that's where you were going?) and "pea brain". That's beneath any RODite.

What evidence do you have that Gaines wasn't wanted (at least at some price point, the Rams made him an offer)?

I would have liked Gay back, but near 6 mill for a kicker is just a bit too steep

He wasn't made an offer. During the season I pointed out how Morris kept shifting Gaines to 0T which is not his forte. Then they draft Bobby Brown a 0T NT and sign Murchison a poor man's Gaines as a rotational passing down 1T NT. Morris insists on playing a 0T NT early down front in a Fangio style mixed DL. They weren't going to extend Gaines only to make him a 2 down player.
The evidence is in what the Rams did in the draft to accomodate Morris.
Back to Brown, the Rams have told him accuracy on FGs of 50 yards and under is more important than longer range. He needs to be money from 50 yds in. In that regard they got a good PK. If they want long distance they can always try Ethan Evans who can even handle kickoffs.

Special Teams Coach Chase Blackburn said he would take accuracy over distance IMO, Brown can hit from 55 yards as his 52 yard FG had plenty to spare, but the goal is to be accurate first & Brown has excellent trajectory on his FG's.

Rams are looking for accuracy over power from rookie kicker Tanner Brown
A lot has been made about the losses the Rams suffered on offense and defense this offseason, with Jalen Ramsey, Bobby Wagner, Allen Robinson and Leonard Floyd being the headliners. But Los Angeles has made wholesale changes on special teams.
Matt Gay, Matt Orzech and Riley Dixon all left in free agency and have been replaced by three rookies. Tanner Brown, the Rams’ new kicker, was signed as an undrafted free agent and remains the only kicker on the roster as of now.
He’s obviously done enough to impress his coaches, leading to the Rams releasing fellow rookie Christopher Dunn after minicamp, but there’s still a long way to go, too. New special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn has been impressed by Brown, along with the Rams’ other two specialists.
“He didn’t miss a lot of kicks, I can tell you that,” Blackburn said. “He hit the ball clean, has a really strong leg. Like I said, mentally, that mental makeup and the mesh between the three of them is really good. I feel like we have a lot of confidence going in right now.”
In two years at Oklahoma State, Brown’s longest field goal was 52 yards. He didn’t make anything over 50 yards in 2021, but he was unbelievably accurate in his two seasons. He made 26 of his last 27 field goal attempts, including 22 of 23 last year alone.
Blackburn didn’t hesitate to pick whether he prefers accuracy or power from his kicker.
“Oh, accuracy. A hundred percent. A hundred percent,” he said flatly. “Put points on the board. We have a great offense, right? We have a great defense that we can trust if we pin them deep. If we can make them inside a 50 with a great accuracy, we’ll be good. Obviously, there’s situations where a longer field goal is going to come up, but we’re going to need it to end the half in the game. That’s going to be critical. But I’d take accuracy every time.”
Fortunately, the Rams have one of the most accurate kickers from the college ranks last year, which helped Brown earn recognition as a Lou Groza Award semifinalist, which is given to the best kicker in college.
Gay was always known for his powerful leg, but during his time with the Rams, he was also one of the most accurate kickers in football. The Rams hope Brown can just continue to drill kicks inside of 50 the way Gay did for several years.
