It appears that 8 of the 9 players picked in the last draft made the final 53. I know there will be some adjustments but this still looks like a very productive draft for a winning team, without a 1st round pick.

Only one of this year's UDFA's though - AJ Jackson. Hopefully a couple of those guys make it through to the practice squad (Haydel, Akers, Meredith). And maybe the ninth guy, EB IV, makes it to the PS as well ...

It’s a deeper roster each year under McVay. Even though there will be several adjustments before regular season this years Draft class is proving to be astonishingly talented in R2 thru R7.

Yeah I'm really happy with this class so far. Will be fun to see how many of them can carve important roles this year.

Yeah but what if you get a starting RT out of Alaric next year? The fact that fewer UDFA's are making the team is proof of how well this roster is being built and the strength of Snead's drafts. IMO that's the point. Each year there are fewer holes to be filled and fewer to upgrade. Those upgrades meaning not just good but perhaps elite level players. Every year the bar is being raised and I for one couldn't be happier because that is exactly what we want.

This year it was good enough isn't good enough anymore.

You can tell Haydel is an accomplished return guy. He knows where the holes are, has good vision, takes it right up the field, but.... he is too damn slow. That will keep him from making the league. I think he ran a 4.75 or something at his pro day.

Very fair assessment! Glad we seem to be identifying and picking well in the mid to late rounds! This could be a SB roster!
 
It could end up being a good class. So far it looks to be, but its very early to say or not.

Keep in mind how Snead churns the bottom of the roster. It creates openings. Someone posted about how many players in each draft ended staying with the Rams long term. Its like one. They don't sign a lot of their own to second contracts.. I'm guessing its due to being tight against the cap, otherwise I think JJ and possibly Hill would still be Rams.
This creates a lot of opportunity for the new guys. Oline, backup Oline, ilb,olb, safety, Dline, corner. There were holes to be filled all over the place. Are this years picks going to be keepers after four years? The trend says no. Most will become compensation picks for the Rams. I don't always agree with the picks, but I do like the strategy and how they view roster building. (I'm kind of peeved that JJ will only net a fourth round comp pick though, he's worth more than that)

There are a few of the high ceiling guys from this draft that look like they could possibly reach their potential. Like Harris, Rochell and Garrett.

That seems almost impossible for a team that was pretty good last year.

Numbers game. Like Mcvay said. The depth on The D-Line was The Rams strength. The offensive line was the surprising thing. The Rams value that group more from a learning(teaching) point.Those guys upfront have so much to learn & Mcvay’s offensive concepts.
AJ Jackson like you said would have been claimed. Meredith will be a practice squad guy. He works hard with Max P.. Hoecht earned a spot Saturday.
 
I said going into this years draft that the really good front offices were going to score some later round gold with the weird covid year and shortened/non-existent college football season in some cases (Chris Garrett hadn't played since 2019). It's still early to crown any of these guys as draft gems but you have to love the players Snead drafted on the third day. A lot of good physical attributes to develop there.

The headline is nice but you also have to factor in that we had no cap space. Hopefully they are able to round out the bottom of the roster as well as more experienced guys would have.

If Alaric Jackson turns out to be a starting LT, and a good one, wow.. just... WOW!
The value that would represent both from a salary cap and draft capital perspective is just phenomenal. I was curious about him when they picked him up and just couldn't find anything to criticize in his preseason play. Glad he got so many reps and he certainly looks the part.
If they, somehow, hit on that? Man.. trading away first rounders becomes even more palatable.
