Highly respect people who have served in the military. A lot of people in my family served in the military, including my paternal grandfather. Unfortunately, I can't serve like they did, but the least I can do is thank the people on this site that have.

I can't figure out if the guy is living in some sort of fantasy playworld or just a greedy jerk or whatever his motive is for doing that.

I mean--how could he not think he'd get caught eventually anyway? Surely someone would have spotted something odd about him but maybe he just trusted that even if they did they would not confront him or say anything.

He obviously did some shoddy research just to have some prepared answers that might pass against a civilian who didn't know any better but did he think he could fool a veteran? Or at least one from that branch of service?

Then again--who knows? It's Black Friday--everyone is paying attention to shopping lists and daydreaming about the holidays and fighting crowds and barely noticing others. Maybe he's done it many times before.

Now he's screwed.

I'm willing to bet that dude never got an ounce of respect in his life, so he's trying to steal some now. That's probably why he was busted previously posing as a police officer. Sad this is, he appears to be young enough that he could have enlisted or joined the police academy. But I'm willing to bet further, that he has no balls.

Currently there is a show on Discovery called "Dual Survival." The new season has yet to be picked up for Season 5... and one of the members - Joe Teti- is being called out for embellishing his resume.

The funny thing is... Joe came in at Season 3, replacing some guy named Dave who was booted from the show for lying on HIS resume. Discovery never vetted him (or ANYONE on the show) Another ex-TV survival show host / ex-military dude, Mykel Hawke, is on record stating that Joe is a fraud and is not who he claims to be. Some pretty crazy stuff.

I had no idea. Explains why I haven't seen the show on in a while.

I also thought I heard this guy mention the Marines. Did I here that right. Did he claim to be an Army Ranger in the Marine Corps?

I listened to it again, I'm not sure he mentions Marines, but if you point me to the right time maybe he did. He just kind of flusters around a bit, especially with the 3 CIB awards. For those wondering, you need to be in different wars for those. So there were some triple winners from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. There's been less than 350 men who have been awarded the CIB 3 times, due to the length of time between wars, I believe it is the rarest award you can get today, but if not it is definitely among them. 3,450 Medal of Honors have been awarded for comparison.

So if you ever see a CIB with a star on it, and it's not a really old guy, its bullshit. If there's two stars on it, its really bullshit, and you can ask him to take you to the Infantry Museum at Fort Benning where he can show you his name.

And there's your fun lesson for the day.

Most guys who hunt IEDs are EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) which would be similar to the Hurt Locker movie. However that movie is horribly hollywooded up, if you want a better idea, there was a mini series on National Geographic (I believe) about Navy EOD guys in Afghanistan, that'll give a much better idea of how they operate. They also had a show about PJ's, Para Rescue, it was very well done. Both of them use real guys doing their real jobs, just helmet cams and other stationary cameras in the vehicle. PJ's are the crap though, amazing guys.

Hurt Locker though atleast tried to make it realistic - loved the little nuisances that were included in the movie that you had to be military to pick up

Example: the stacking of the cement blocks right before the Colonel is blown up; this was one of the many ways they used to communicate to the locals that there was an IED near bye

Yeah, visually it looked great. Its just not at all how EOD guys operate, a lot of them take pride in being careful and slow.

Turns out this guy was once charged with impersonating a public servant after authorities tracked him down.

So my work hired a guy yesterday, and I fired him today for Stolen Valor.

Guy said he served in the Army for a year as an air defense specialist, blew out his knee when an AC unit fell on him. Then 2 months later they made him take a PT test and he failed when his stitches opened up.

Right off the bat, red flags. I figure he got kicked out for being a shit bag, but was too embarrassed to say, for obvious reasons. I just kind of say "that sucks" and move on.

At this point he doesn't know what I did, in fact he's under the impression I was reserves. Big mistake. He starts spouting off about doing a 3 month deployment to Afghanistan with SF. I ask him what group and he mistakes me for what he used. Said they brought him to a table with a SCAR and a bunch of different optics and said to do whatever he wanted to it. It doesn't work that way. Bigger mistake.

Fast forward to today, a few of us are talking and he introduces himself to another one of us, when he gives his same BS story, my buddy asks where about and he says Kunar Province. I was there, needless to say my interest peaks, and I asked what part. He replies "North East side, they said I didn't need to know." I reply "That doesn't make any fucking sense." And he said "well I was pulled because I got medical training during AIT and 1st SF Group said they wanted me because I had medical training and because I was expendable, so I didn't need to know what they were doing or where we were."

I reply "I did a lot of missions with SF, that really doesn't make any fucking sense. SF medics have 2 years of training, they don't pull some swinging dick private fresh from training for their missions."

He says "Yeah, I didn't really get it, it was weird, they just told me not to worry about it."

At this point the rest of the guys know its about to get bad. My manager steps outside and shuts the door to keep customers out. I looked to this piece of shit and say "I want you to tell me exactly what you did in the Army from the top. And before you say anything, I spent more time in country than you did in the service. I spent 16 months in Kunar province, and watched 12 of my buddies die. I can smell bullshit a mile away, and have a buddy who just got out after 8 years with 1st SF Group. Now, what did you do during your time in the military"

So at this point he's flustered and starts trying to lie himself out, and I just lost it. I don't even remember what I said, but I chewed his ass out hard for about 3 minutes and he looked ready to cry. I told him to get the fuck out of my sight and I better not see him again because he's fired.

My manager opened the door, said "You heard the man, get out." And that was that.

Of course now I'm working the range alone the next 2 days, but worth it so I don't have to see that shit bag all day.

Punishment for these kind of people should be for them to be sent to boot camp. And I'm not talking about that summer camp I went through at Lackland AFB that the Air Force calls "basic training". I'm thinking something more like Parris Island.
