Stafford is a consummate professional and always has been. Hopefully gets back to somewhat his best self, soon.

How much doubt do you have in Matthew Stafford?

IMO - Stafford being able to sit out is actually a Luxury! He was at all OTA’s & once he gets back in pads He’ll be alright & is one of The Toughest SOB’s in the game!

It’s not like he isn’t getting solid mental reps as well.

Shocking! They were and are just being cautious with a veteran who has had injury problems.

Vet rest days happen all camp long and vets with minor injuries get more of them. Nothing new to see here but don't stop panicking at all. It's really fun to read and laugh at.

You have to Love Sean Mcvay being transparent though.

He cringes every time he is asked about Matthew Stafford.

He basically is saying he thinks he’ll be ready this next week against the Chargers.Even if not he will have 2 weeks to still be ready to go.

if matthew goes down we will be looking for a vet replacement asap...

go rans

If Matt goes down our best option for starter is already on the roster. But he also has a history of missing games with injury. So a vet replacement backup would be a good idea. Bennett should not be an option.

Cautious with an obviously aggravated back issue. He didn't sit out the first 2 weeks of camp last year. So he obviously tweaked something and they are making sure it doesn't become a big issue. So I wouldn't dismiss this as rest days. It is something they had concern over and hopefully it gets behind him starting next week.

Well, I agree Stafford is the man, however, I am grateful that Jimmy Garoppolo is not Brett Rypien or Brock Berlin or even Keith Null for that matter.
No doubt. Me too.

I think it unwise to judge Jimmy-G without pause.

He may not be a Brett Rypien, but not a Vince Ferragamo as well.

McVay's offenses had a problem with depth for a number of years - at OL, at QB, at RB, probably a little less at pass catcher. Seems like there's been a real concerted effort to build it out - especially given the age of our QB - the last 2-3 years.

Jimmy is a few years removed from what he was with the 49ers but I think he can probably get a good team to the postseason still - if he had to start most of the year - prob not more than that though. And that's a big deal for a backup QB (see below). And McVay has raved about him behind closed doors as reported by Jourdan so I think it's very unlikely he's going anywhere this season but never say never in the NFL or with the Rams.

I forget what GM said this but basically the rub in the NFL is that if you lose your starting QB for the season, you're pretty much screwed. That's it, you're cooked and your season is over. A backup QB isn't there to play a full season for you and get you to your goals, they're there to make you go 2-2 in the 4 game stretch that your QB is out with injury during the season. The thing was, the Rams for a few years didn't even have a guy who could do that at backup QB and that's why they went to get Jimmy.

  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Matthew Stafford’s training camp absence is a “total maintenance issue.”
Schefter and Rams beat writers continue to say Stafford, who has been sidelined for weeks with a back issue, will be ready for Week 1. “They don’t want to put any wear and tear on his body,” Schefter said of Stafford, 37, entering his 17th NFL season. If the Rams had a game today, Schefter said, Stafford would be able to suit up and play. There seems to be no long-term issue for Stafford as he gets ready for his fifth season with the Rams. He threw 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions last season and was not fantasy relevant. Stafford ranked 25th out of 33 qualifying QBs in accuracy in 2024.

From what I've heard, Bennett is looking very good. I'm all for player improvement and when it happens, give them the chance.

Put me in the camp of not reading into this at all. Remember his elbow a year or two ago, and how some folks were even questioning if he would have to retire? The dude looked incredible last year, easily a top 5 QB the way he was playing, maybe even top 3, he is that clutch when the chips are down. He just had an entire off-season to rest up, and suddenly, he's done a 180 and can no longer perform? No chance! I do worry one hit could change everything at his age, with his injury history. Surreal the Rams didn't address o-line more this off-season.

McVay said Staff was “chomping at the bit,” which seems to indicate they’re wisely preserving his body for the 20 game grind. I think being physically fresh will count more than any “chemistry” that might be lost.

Rams under McVay have proven they can survive a slow start to the season but no team can overcome a slow finish. Save Staff for when you need him. I believe he will need some down time sometime this season. He’s no spring chicken.
