i hope the training staff has the problem under control...

i have worked construction for going on 50 years, and my back was a mess through my 20's and 30's...

i had to change the way i worked (framer/ carpenter/ concrete etc) if i do a lot of bending down without bending my knees, my back will stiffen up in no time... and sciatica pain will come on... not to mention the inevitable pinched nerve..

i just deal with it, and avoid the bending over as much as possible, and i go home feeling fine...

i can't say what matthew's issue is, but i would bet his flare-up is caused by some repetitive motion he needs to curtail, if possible...

here's to a speedy recovery...

“Repetitive motion”.
As in training, perhaps?

Like you mentioned, certain movements can trigger the aggravation of chronic issues. Im gonna go with that. After all, he’s a 37 year old pro football player who has taken more than his fair share of lumps, affecting his recovery time.

I’m gonna try to hold off bad vibes and give it another week to 10 days before my concern level gets piqued.

ill add this...

sitting around or lying in bed would prolong recovery for me...

the best thing for my back issue was walking and easing back into work immediately...

if i laid back and rested in my easychair, within an hour i couldn't get out of it... back stiffness would worsen..

he should be back at it this week... if he's not, i would be concerned...

I've had back problems for 40 years after an injury back in the 80's. Yes, sitting too long does make it ache more. Getting out of bed in the mornings is tough. But when I start moving around it loosens up.

Stafford seeing a doctor twice in two weeks does sound concerning. But I'm not gonna worry about it until the season starts. It might just be an abundance of caution with him. Its not like he needs more camp time at this point. I still think he'll be the starting quarterback against Houston. If not they will rally around Jimmy Garoppolo and play good football.

I’d bet he would be. McVay and Staff understand how important it is to be physically fresh for the real games in a long more-than-17 game season, esp seasoned vets. That’s one reason starters never play preseason.

Stafford not being able to practice during the joint practices is concerning as I think we're in official territory that he's gonna have some struggles connecting with receivers when the season starts...

... when Stafford can actually play... at this point my head is officially in the sand.

.

How can Stafford have any kind of chemistry with Adams if he's not throwing to him in practice or scrimmages?

Or were the otas enough.

Seems like the usual slow start is ahead for the offense. Which might be ok, meaning we still might be able to scrape together a good early season record if the defense kicks ass out the gate.

It doesnt hurt that 3 of the first 4 games are against teams from the AFC South. Should be wins, but if they're losses they wont hurt as bad since they are out of conference.

I want a fast start. So tired of falling behind the top teams in the first month of the season and watching them cruise to a bye. Would be nice to actually compete for the top seed.

Yes he would be starting if the season started today.
You don’t actually know that. This has been very concerning. He wouldn’t just be held out of training camp is there wasn’t a real issue.

Rams hold vets out of camp all the time for precautions when there isn't a known issue they're just cautious.
Stafford has never been held out like this before. I’m sorry but you guys are delusional if you think this is normal.

Unless they did a behind the scenes deal that Stafford would stay another year as long as he didn’t have to do training camp. Which I would then question his dedication if that’s the case.

The Rams have always done “veteran days” but not even a 40 year old Andrew Whitworth was kept out for weeks at a time in training camp.

I think we all accept that it isn't normal. He's hurt for sure. But if he showed up to camp with a sore back, I'm sure the medical staff would advise that he not do anything he doesn't have to do. Mcvay is already a super cautious guy with camp injuries. What reason do we have not to believe him when he says Stafford will be fine and they're taking it easy?

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned. Could the Rams just be playing the VERY cautious card? Absolutely.

But seeing two doctors in two weeks doesn't sound good. And I'm sure it's not just a chiropractic check up.

In the long run, I can very well see this being Staffords last year with his career long beating and injuries starting to catch up to him.

In the short run, I've shit on him a lot as a 49er but I'm DAMN glad we have Jimmy G as backup. I at least feel like we have a chance against MOST of the NFL.

ONE LAST THING that worries me is the Rams are being sort of vague with it and I don't trust them with injuries and telling the whole story.
