As for possibility of still taking one of these top 5 QBs... interesting video on those guys.

Cosell sees the same thing many of us seem to like in Dart. He thinks he could develop into something. I know Jeremiah compares him to Hurts... needs more development, but could be a good player in time. Cosell feels the same.

I'm hoping for that too. I don't think Snead feels great about asking Kupp to take less money because he has too much respect for him. I think it's up to Kupp to broach the subject.

What do you mean by take less money?

Just to summarize this and the AJ deal. Both of which needed to get done, and I'm glad they did. However, the most expensive offense in the league just got even more expensive (without adding a single player).

Here's hoping they produce more than 21 points per game next season. The Rams were out scored by 20 pts over the course of last season. That is not sustainable if you truly think this team was "13 yards from hoisting the Lombardi" last year.

Add Cooper Kupp one of your LEADERS under Mcvay is getting the boot ! Plus at WR you basically are only bringing back 2 WR’s who were 4th/ 5th rd pick.

A lot of that was just due to injuries. If healthy they are one of the best teams in the NFC

He's been the talk of the team each off season
2021- The trade during SB week
2022- the contract extension
2023- Will he retire? Neck injury (1st year of new deal)
2024- Contract renegotiation
2025- Contract renegotiation
Look I love the guy for what he does for the team on the field, but give me one off season when what he's going to do isnt the big issue
End of the day, I'm just happy he's staying
Yeah... I get it.. you're tired of hearing about Stafford in the offseason.

You *seem* to mistake the *situation* for Stafford himself being some kind of repeated distraction.

There is a massive difference.

He is not, in any way, shape or form.. a distraction. He does not behave in ways to distract attention from the team and its goals. And his contract stuff has always been reasonable with the Rams.

I'm glad Stafford is coming back and hope the contract is creative enough to allow some real additions this offseason in free agency.

The reaction threads always crack me up... from people certain Stafford was never leaving.. to people who were certain he was going.. just all of it.

The.. "I knew he'd stay all along and it was just leverage" reminds me a lot of people who thought McVay wasn't really thinking about walking away a couple of years ago. People are complicated.. professional sports organizations are complicated.. there are layers to these things.

I wouldn't have been surprised to see this come out with Stafford on a different team.. and I'm not surprised to see he's back with the Rams.

The most important thing to me is going to be what that contract actually looks like.

Yeah, I still think it could have gone either way. If he pushed for a bigger increase, one that was more than what they were comfortable with, it seems there was enough interest that they would have worked out a trade. So yeah, anyone who claims to know it was never a doubt, they are being naive.

Well of course it could have gone the other way if Stafford really wanted to leave for more money. The argument was, both sides want this to work and they will work it out.

All the speculation was that Stafford was asking to much and if that was the case he would be gone, then what could we get for him and it would be better to let him go if he was so selfish.

But for a few of us, while the thread was fun to participate in, felt it was a lot to do about nothing cause it made no sense for either party to do other wise. Not that we knew, we just felt it made no sense.

Report: Raiders were willing to pay Matthew Stafford up to $100M on two-year deal
By Mike Florio

Published March 1, 2025 07:13 AM

The Raiders wanted quarterback Matthew Stafford. They made their pitch. Shot their shot. And it didn’t work out.

At the end of the day, the Raiders (and to a similar extent the Giants) served as Stafford’s leverage in his effort to get the Rams to give him more money.

According to TheAthletic.com, the Raiders were willing to give Stafford a two-year deal in the range of $90 million to $100 million. That would have put his average salary at $45 million to $50 million.

The report also suggests that a second-round pick might have gotten the deal done with the Rams, if Stafford ultimately had wanted to leave L.A. As mentioned on Friday’s PFT Live, we’d heard the magic number was a second-round pick — which created the impression that the Rams wouldn’t have been too upset about letting him go.

But Stafford decided to stay. The specifics regarding his new deal have not yet emerged.

Stafford has two years left on his current contract. He’s due to make $27 million in 2025 and $31 million in 2026, for a total of $58 million and an average of $29 million. The Rams will presumably enhance the cash for the next two years with voidable years that spreads the cap charge.

Stafford has every right to want more than Jared Goff’s $53 million per year. If the Raiders (and perhaps the Giants) were offering something in the range of $45 million to $50 million annually, Stafford likely fell short of matching Goff.

Maybe the contract will include incentives that can get Stafford there, based on how he performs. Or maybe the new contract will add some phony-baloney non-guaranteed salaries beyond 2026 that will drive up the new-money average.

Regardless, four years after arriving from Detroit, Stafford decided not to leave L.A. Which means he’ll be getting more than $29 million per year over the next two years. The actual amount that his flirtation with the Raiders and the Giants squeezed from Stan Kroenke’s coffers remains to be seen.
