So, is this gonna be a 2nd consecutive “redshirt” draft?

Meaning that there will be no immediate starters and that the players picked will be intended for a one year development cycle/ NFL strength training before taking on starter status?

I’m thinking that it could well be so, maybe even the new strategy.

The 2018 draft was a redshirt draft and it’s looking like a pretty smart one with the benefit of hindsight.

Then there’s the fact that we pick late. Very, very late. And have no 2nd rounder presently. Not to mention that our roster is fairly loaded except for maybe a couple of starting positions.

That sure seems like a recipe for a redshirt draft to me.

If I had to guess, and assuming that we stay at #31, I really see only 2 likely positions that any 31st pick would remotely become a rookie starter. DL and interior OL. That’s it. And of the two I think DL would be easier to crack the starting lineup.

The days of getting 3-4 new starters via draft every year are over, y’all. We is now much more like the Patriots than the Cardinals. Lol.

I love it!

If NT doesn't crack the starting lineup we got problems.

But yeah, and welcome to being a Super Bowl team. :D

Agreed, Merlin. Either a NT or a DE at #31 should be a starter.

But what if another position is the pick at #31? A distinct possibility, depending on who might fall.

We will likely have a new starter on the DL - either NT with Brockers moving to DT (my preference) - or DT with Brockers moving to NT.

On the other hand - er kept NE to 3 points for 3 quarters... Chiefs had that before the National Anthem... ;)

Brockers to me looked a bit lighter last year than the year before.

I’m still trying to figure how we put up a 50 burger vs cheifs but lay an egg at the SB

That Chefs D is swiss cheese.

Plus BB figured out McVay's run/pass tendencies in formations and stuff the O. Hard to beat a very good defense in the first place (NE was 7th overall) and hard to even score when 80% of the time the D knows if it's a pass or run.

I think Wren or Saunders would start for us day one and both are possibilities round 3.

YES.:yess:

I do not see any starting positions in this Ram team (offense & defense) @ this time that requiring Snead to draft a starting prospect. However talented reserves are just about needed everywhere on the defense & the OL.

I see Brockers & last years redshirted 6th round draftee NT Sebastian Joseph-Day being considered to handle the vacated NT post. If my projected move of Brockers to primarily NT duties does materialize then the DE 5 tech post has two young prospective starters standing ready to take up the duties. Last yrs top defensive selection DE John Franklin-Myers & DE Morgan Fox, who will return from the IR to enter his 4th season as a Ram.

The interior LB'er cadre appears solid with former starters veteran Clay Mathews & Cory Littleton available along with Snead's selection last draft selection of talented Micah Kiser. Then there's another Snead drafted prospect who was redshirted in 2018 who ran a 4.56 40-yard dash at his pro day, weakside Interior LB'er Travin Howard. The Edge Rushers unit has both last yr starters returning (Ebukam/Fowler) with three 2nd yr Snead drafted reserves (Young/ Okoronkwo/ Lawler) available.

The Rams have 3 solid veteran starters @ the corner posts (Talib/ NFC/ Peters). Snead has collected a rather large 6 CB reserve unit too, with Troy Hill/ Kevin Peterson/ Darious Williams/ Dom Hatfield/ Dont'e Deayon & Ramon Richards. Safety unit has very solid safety starters in Weddle/ JJ III. Three reserves, 2 of which have been Rams for 3 yrs each along with first yr player Steven Parker.

I am thinking that Snead will mess with me again on the first night of the draft Thursday evening. I will fully focus analyzing each & every selection as to how it will affect the Rams first-round choice ....then he sets me up for late night drama by completing a trade down out of the first round. I still believe a talented NT is a must on day 1 or day 2. I am okay with OL coach Kromer continues to get several drafted mid round talents {LT/OG/OC} to groom as depth & possible starters in 2020.

We have 3 starting DL spots - I really doubt any rookie will come in and be better than Brockers or JFM.

We're not going to be drafting a 5T, which is where Brock & JFM play. We will be drafting a NT where multiple rookie options could start for us; Brock is not ideal on the interior, he is better outside of the A&B gaps.

Sure hope so. No injuries for the Rams this upcoming season would be a positive thing for a return trip to the Super Bowl.

Rams do have a first round pick right? Even at 31 in round one the Rams should get a starter-high snap count player. I keep thinking NT. A safety could take plays away form Countess and Christian.. An ILber could beat out Kiser. Remote chance an offensive lineman is taken but, if one is he has to start. I don't see the Rams wasting a year sitting their first round pick on the bench.

If they draft an OL in the first, he becomes the primary backup like Noteboom last season, figuring he becomes a full time starter in year 2. Or more likely they trade down, get an extra pick or two and take one there.

I can see your philosophy for the nose tackle.
5 years of a superior nose tackle would be ideal.
It would definitely help unleash Donald and Brockers.
I just don't want them reaching.
We saw enough of that before McVay arrived.
