Trying to locate the entire segment. Really interested in hearing what they have to say, given the way they downplayed Sean's hire last year. I know the Rams are well respected now and all, but I haven't forgotten Kirwan's take the day Sean was hired: "I'll give that one a year."

Dude is knowledgeable, but his Pete Carroll influence is profound.

Mike Lombardi called the hire "a joke" and then stated "Goff can't play"

No wonder he is out of the league..

Seriously? Lombardi said his hiring was "a joke"? I never heard that. What an asshole Lombardi is...

I listened to them last year. All they did was talk about other teams while they were at the Rams camp. Reminded me of AM710 while they were at camp. All they did was talk Lakers, lol!

Lombardi went on a whole diatribe last year against the Rams front office.

He has a rep for being very football smart, but I've never seen any evidence of his great knowledge.
OMG...Lombardi is a total (excuse my language, but I've never been so mad at a sports writer than Lombardi after reading this) Fucking Asshole! What a fucked up, ass fucking, fuck shit article!

He did write, "not Bill Belichick, not Bill Walsh, not Vince Lombardi, not George Halas or Don Shula could succeed in this culture." So, where does that put McVay now in hindsight? I guess McVay is the greatest head coach in NFL all time history!

Eat Shit Lombardi!!!

P.S. I wouldn't know nothing about anything if it wasn't for ROD!

All he said about McVay was that he's young and we don't know if he can affect culture change. The article was actually pretty reasonable, even in retrospect. The Rams sucked because Shaw was a CPA/lawyer, not a football guy. We made some questionable contracts with Demoff doing them. Not really untrue statements and some skepticism about a young unproven guy turning around decades (minus a few years) of ineptitude.

Yeah he's such a smug jackass. I mean the Rams' fanbase has suffered enough over the years, is it really necessary to take a dump on us at every available opportunity? I can't really think of anyone in the media I detest more than him.

But you know... Some of the stuff he said in that article was correct. He is absolutely correct about John Shaw and Georgia, and in his observation that organizational culture was what the Rams needed. He was just too dismissive of Sean's ability to deliver that, making the mistake of so many in the media of branding the hire as a "QB coach for Goff."

The Rams' success has to be particularly painful for him to swallow. So at least we can greatly enjoy that. (y)

At least Lombardi and Kirwan are not local media guys that dissed the Rams and McVay. So many “Experts” in the LA sports media were so negative before the 2017 season. I remember listening to AM 710 LA ESPN and listening to George Sedano saying that Jared Goff is a lost cause and the Rams made a huge mistake trading for and drafting him. John Ireland pretty much echoed those statements and kept saying LA is and always will be a Raiders town. After the year many of these doubters quieted down. But I still hear the haters pop up. Keyshawn Johnson this morning vehemently said the Rams are NOT a Super Bowl team. He said that there is no chemistry and you can’t buy a championship team. He gave no thought to the great coaching the Rams have and the chemistry they built last year. He said dream teams never work in the NFL and it will be no different for the Rams. I love hearing these guys doubting the Rams. We shut a lot of them up last year and hopefully we will shut up a lot more at the end of this season

I listen because they’re at least talking NFL now. Just a week or two ago it was all Lakers and Lebron James man love. Also don’t know how Keyshawn Johnson is employed as an analyst in LA since he hates all LA sports teams except USC. I actually liked Marcellus Wiley in the afternoon show but he quit or they fired him recently

I listened to the Mighty 1090 yesterday because they broadcasted from camp. It was their first Ram related broadcast so they were introducing the Rams to the San Diego audience. Some of the hosts themselves were getting acquainted with the team. The hosts seemed genuinely excited about the team, unlike when Keyshawn and the morning crew where you can tell that they can’t wait to talk Lakers again after 5 minutes of Rams talk.

These guys are going to have regular Ram guests throughout the season. They have a hatred of all things Chargers so I think they’re very motivated in promoting the team and their new alliance with the Rams. It also helps that they’re a blowtorch that reaches all the way up to Santa Barbara.

I have a feeling that they’re gonna have a lot more Rams content than 710 especially the closer basketball season gets. I do have to say though that Travis Rogers on the 710 afternoon show does talk a good deal of Rams. He was on today with D’Marco from camp and even had Keyshawn on who, as always, was bullyingly trying to push his “my opinion matters more” bullshit.

It's one thing to be skeptical of McVay's hire when it happened, especially if you don't know much about him. Lombardi wrote this 2000 word article five months later. Plenty of time to digest the McVay hire, and with all his connections in the league, maybe ask around and find out what McVay brings to the table. Find out that he was more than just a "QB coach."
Lombardi didn't do that.

Most of us at ROD know about Shaw and Georgia. We know the Rams history. Yet we were still optimistic going into 2017, weren't we? Sometimes you have to leave the past in the past and just look at what's happening in the here and now.

Ah, timing is everything.

I guess Lombardi loves G&R so much, he had to throw in this line:
" Right now, McVay is like Axl Rose stepping off the bus in the “Welcome to the Jungle” video — he’s new to this."
Great writing dude! Some Bill Shakespeare deep thoughts for sure.

At camp yesterday> I stood behind the railing as close as I could get behind Keyshawn while he was rambling, Making loud fart noises as he was talking. VetRamFan drug me away, ruining my fun.

No wonder he is out of the league..

he was not the only one, and some of these clowns want the rams to be unsuccessful so they can believe their points were valid.

that bill barnwell guy on bspn is very negative rams too.
