In the 70's, Chuck Knox had 4 seasons as HC and won 4 NFC West titles, but could never get past the Cowboys or the Vikings in the playoffs. Robinson did well in the 80's. Yet, it was only Dick Vermeil who won a Super Bowl with the Rams, and that has to be weighted more than just wins and losses in the regular season.

I was replying only reply about George Allen because he won the SuperBowl where Mcvay was poached from.To me it was a full circle in his career because of his Long Beach influences back in the 60’s/70’s. A friends dad played for him from CSULB with both Rams & Washington where he got a Ring.
Georgia Allen would have kept college football in The Big West if he didn’t die the way he did.He had A GREAT RECRUITING CLASS.Terrel Davis is just one name that was already on the team.They would have had a Stadium on Campus or upgraded Veterans Stadium.He told Roman Gabriel what a good team he was going to have before he died.

Best Rams coach yes. He changed the losing culture virtually overnight and has sustained it to this point. He has brought in quality coaches and his coaching tree is growing quickly.

Needs to win some serious hardware before he gets mentioned with the all time greats though.

His career is still relatively fresh. I suspect McV will get better as the years pass.

Naw I still don’t think he’s better than Fisher. He’s a better coordinator but I don’t think McVay could have did what Fisher had to do.
Right now I have Vermeil, Fisher, Martz then McVay I think a Super Bowl would push him up there with Vermeil

Mad Mike didn’t have much of a Head coaching career.He also received Vermmeils team & had 3 first rd picks.One of them for the TRADE of VERMEIL? Belacheat I believe was traded from The Jets for a 1stt rd pick & Chucky tonTampa for a 2nd rd pick if memory sets in right ?
 
He's got the hottest wife of any NFL head coach...plus he's an offensive boy wonder...I'd say he's pretty good.

But really though in the biggest game of his life Belichick did fully shit on him, so until he gets back to the SB and wins it it's hard to give him any title.

For best ever, you got to go with Bill Walsh of the 49ers. The innovation he brought to the league can still be felt today.

McVay. He's on his way to best ever Rams head coach, but HE'S NOT THERE YET!

Just looking at the Rams coaching history, there's almost no argument for any other coach

Vermeil had one good season that was nearly identical to McVays best, except for the outcome of the Super Bowl.

McVay having three more winning seasons offsets that IMO.

Martz is a good comp if we ignore the teams they inherited. Through 4 years they both had/have 43 wins, two division titles, three playoff appearances and one Super Bowl loss to the Patriots. But Martz had a losing season and inherited the best team in the NFL, allowing the defense to fall from top 5 to near historically bad.

Fisher....don't even know what to say to that. If serious, it's worth noting that the RG3 trade was a big part of getting the talent boost, and after a few years it was clear Fisher was holding the team back.

Then a Bonus question would be McSnead. McVay & Les Snead vs Snisher. Fisher & Snead.
Les Snead has made all these amazing trades for these 2 coaches.
He was before Disco Billy D. & Spags.

Is Andy Reed apart if that Walsh Tree at all. Because one of The Piints I was going to make was coaching Trees.

Look at Belacheat & his coaching Tree.
Fisher I believe let Josh McDaniels out of his contract early to help NE out to win another SuperBowl.

I think if you go by The coaching tree Sean McVay might or could be The Best Coach in The NFL to coach coaches.

As others have stated... Mcvay has to win a Super Bowl to be considered the best Rams Coach.

Vermeil brought home the bacon. Mcvay is still hunting the pig.
