Dickerson got the record in 15 games, 1 game more than OJ's 14. He played the 16th vs the whiners had had 97 yards to increase it.

If Barkley breaks it in 17 we can't really argue. Though I always hated the additional game for that reason.

Does he rest for the playoffs? Does he play? Hard to guess, I've seen a player rest and skip the record or play and break it.

I hope defenders are up for the challenge and don't want to carry the weight of allowing a record. I would love to see them play the way the commodes played him in the 2nd half.

Does Philly have any chance for the 1 seed? As long as they do, Eagles are gonna run him hard

Eric Dickerson not rooting for Saquon Barkley in record chase

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley needs 268 yards over the next two games to set the NFL single-season rushing yardage record.

One person not pulling for Barkley to set the mark: current record holder Eric Dickerson.

"I don't think he'll break it. But if he breaks it, he breaks it," Dickerson told the Los Angeles Times this week. "Do I want him to break it? Absolutely not. I don't pull no punches on that.

"But I'm not whining about it. He had 17 games to do it? Hey, football is football. That's the way I look at it. If he's fortunate to get over 2,000 yards and get the record, it's a great record to have."

Dickerson set the rushing record in 1984 with 2,105 yards in 16 games. Barkley is at 1,838 yards through 15 games, an average slightly off record-setting pace (2,083 yards).

But with Jalen Hurts in the concussion protocol and likely out for Week 17, the Eagles could turn to their marquee free agent pickup this offseason to handle an even bigger role against the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants -- Barkley's former team and a chance for some possible payback, Dickerson said.

"How ironic would it be for him to break the record on them, the team that let him go," Dickerson said of the Week 18 matchup. "A true slap in the face."

Although he may not be pulling for him, Dickerson praised Barkley as a "great player" who is "elusive, he's tough, he runs hard."

And if Barkley sets the record, Dickerson said he can rest on another mark that he views as the toughest to break.

"I've always said that the one that's going to last the longest is me setting the rookie record with 1,808 [yards]," he said. "Because you only get one shot at that. You're only a rookie once."

I'd like to see Barkley get the record because teams with the leading rusher rarely fare well in the playoffs.

Adrian Peterson was one missed tackle away from that record. I remember watching that game and I thought the record was over. Didn't he wind up with 2099 yards?

I want two things tomorrow:

1. Rams clinch that playoff spot.

2. Dickerson's record stands. If Barkley can have a shitty day even better.

Heavy dose of Saquon today, with Pickett playing QB. Philly needs a win to secure the NFC East and still has an outside shot at the #1 seed.
Dallas has been playing pretty tough as of late, and outside of some QB's rushing stats, they've been tough against the run

The one positive I see here is the defense keys more on Barkley because they have little fear of the backup who's only had a so-so career up to this point.

How'd that work back in 1984 with Kemp? Shhh... :quiet:

9:30 left in third quarter Daquan with 69 yards.

Think this record will be broken. 3rd string qb in for the eagles with a huge lead.

Be dumb for them to keep handing him the ball... he's their playoff hopes.

*shrugs. They want an Eagles RB to have a hallowed record. He will get it unless injured.

Hate to say it, but it would be kind of funny if he gets hurt to the point that it limits him in the playoffs.
