Sammy Watkins, Potential Fantasy Bust in 2017

"Sammy Watkins, who I liked when he was in Buffalo. I thought he could be a draft value, but then he goes to LA...No thank you, not with Jared Goff who's not going to throw the football downfield and that's where Sammy Watkins really makes his hay as a vertical threat. I just don't see the Rams doing a lot of throwing the ball deep, They could be doing this give him some bubble screens, try to make some plays. But this offense just doesn't fit what Sammy Watkins can thrive at, and so I am avoiding him as more than a wide receiver three."

I was very surprised to see Tyrod's really nice deep throws to Sammy on highlight video. I don't know about Sammy's fantasy value with lot's of different targets for Goff. I do think Goff can hit him on deep passes. It's hard to figure where all the targets are going to go. Kupp should get the most catches but eventually Sams should get the yards.

Taylor is a decent QB, He got a Pro Bowl selection two years ago. He was an alternate and a few guys turned down to trip so he ended up going but still that isn't bad.

Tyrod didnt do everything well - but he throws an amazing deep ball. Seriously.

Two things Tyrod Di'allo Taylor (T-Mobile) does well.

Throw a football and live with a clusterfuck of a name.

I probably wouldn't choose Watkins as a top fantasy pick either, but not for the same reasons listed by the OP. Watkins opens up so many other options for the Rams offense, our targets aren't limited to the #1 receiver. RB's receiving out of the back-field, Woods, Krupp, Cooper, Reynolds, Austin, ... add Everett & Higbee, there will be a lot of competition for the ball, and Watkins just makes the team all that much more dangerous as he draws the defense back, which plays right into Gurley's success. If our OL stands up, Goff won't be hurting for available & open targets.
F fantasy, i'm looking for the REAL thing. jmo.

It sounds like he's not familiar with how McVay's offense works.

Before the trade he was going in the 3rd and 4th round. This weekend I picked him up in the late 6th in one league and the 7th round in another.

The talent he has hasn't changed, his injury outlook is considerably improved, and I watched Jared Goff drop a beautifully thrown deep pass to him against Future Vegas. I'm taking him at this price every chance I get.

I would mostly agree with that in terms of fantasy football. LeVeon Bell, David Johnson, LeSean McCoy, and Jay Ajayi all rushed for at least 300 more yards than Gurley last season, scored more TDs, and had a more prominent role in the passing game. Jordan Howard was the second leading rusher in the NFL and that was his rookie season. Devonte Freeman was a scoring weapon in an elite offense, also eclipsing 1,000 on the ground. Melvin Gordon showed huge improvement last season, scored double-digit TDs, and appears to have room to grow. Swap Lamar Miller (who himself still had over 1,000 yards rushing) with DeMarco Murray and there are your 8.

If Elliott wasn't suspended, he would make 9 and arguments could be made for Fournette, McCaffery, and Cook this season.

If you have money on the line, nobody wants to gamble that this OL will actually be able to block this year. Especially that right side.

I won my thousand dollar league 2 years ago and finished 2nd last year, both times with T-Mobile as my starting QB. He is better than people think in fantasy, been top 8ish for last couple years and I got him in like the 13th round one year and undrafted another. As you said, throws a nice deep ball, and gets decent amounts of rushing yards and tds. His value in drafts is always WAY above where you can draft him, its stealing every year.

Fantasy is about numbers, not winning regular season games. McVays running backs in Washington never did anything in FF and have always been terrible, I wont touch him either with so many unknowns. Too much risk when theres other guys in proven systems around Gurleys ADP. On the flipside, McVay seems to value TEs and I own both Kupp and Everett.

Its one thing to risk these guys if you play in fun leagues, but you don't take leap of faiths when you play big money leagues unless someone drops very far where risk is minimal and reward is sky high.

The only issue I have is with Jay Ajayi. I think his numbers are overrated, 3 games over 200 yards is impressive. Two of them, were against the Bills. The rest of the time he only got 100 or more once.

I had to look at TGII's numbers again, and in fantasy world weren't half bad...885 yards and 6 TDs.

Sean McVays RB1s for fantasy in Washington were dead last in the NFL, only averaging 9ppg in his offense and that's PPR so its insanely low for RBs. Gurley was only the 15th best in ppr last year, which clearly puts him in Rb2 territory. There are too many sure things in FF in the area where TG gets drafted to risk that imo, especially given McVays running backs during his time in Washington being the worst in the NFL in fantasy.

do you ever think that may be because his runners were matt jones and rob kelley? gurley has been going mid second round. that's low rb1 territory.

watkins went in the 5th round of my draft. thought i would get him in the 6th otherwise i would have taken him early 5th instead of m bryant. same guy took gurley (16th overall) and watkins.
