hopefully Spruce can come back sooner than later, he has got to make this team.

Compared to his competition he should be the #1 WR on the depth chart IMO even if he is in a wheel chair. He still would have more catches than the rest. Dismal Ram WR cadre showing as if the Rams had removed the rest of the WR hands & tied bags of sand to their ankles before the game. I am so sick & tired :banghead: of non producing WR's on this team & the ton of excuses & reasons I seem to keep reading over & over that they are provided with:blah:.

I havnt been "hyped" on anyone personally. However, I see no reason for fans not to be excited about a particular player. Especially if a player makes plays; weather against 1's, 2's, or 8's.... If a guy does what he is supposed to, why wouldn't someone get excited? Spruce made a ton of plays in the first pre-season game; there is no denying that. It sucks that the dude got hurt, but now he needs to get healthy. Many say,"oh, it's just the pre-season". While true, a player still has to preform regardless. Consistency is what Spruce displayed, and if fans want to be excited about that, they have every right to.

I'm fine with people being excited about him, but to say stuff like "he's already the best receiver on the roster by far" is far too much. He had a good game and I'm ex cited about the chance of the the Rams finding a diamond in the rough, but I think the unironic hyperbole being thrown around is ridiculous.

Well, if there are quotes like that going on then yes, more is needed for a player of Spruces' caliber to be coined those phrases.

Well you took that a bit personal it seems.
It also seems that you think "hype" instantly has a negative connotation when it doesn't.
I'm not saying people need to temper expectations on Spruce to make myself "look cool", and I'm not saying people shouldn't be excited about him at all.
All I'm saying is, that Spruce isn't now the best WR on the roster because of the game he had against the Cowboys.

Here's how I took your post .....as giving me direction & instruction that I did not want or desire to hear right now after the total fail mode our WR hands have been in for many years now, but I will thank you for your concern on that I was looking silly here. After all I have this starchy policed ROD image here for yrs as being way too intense & taking myself way too serious
.The word you utilized "hype" can be & is associated with such words gull, trick or deception too. I would hope most know was not serious & I would never consider him our best Ram WR. However it is the best "Hands" performance I have seen from a Ram WR in many years. For me it is a well welcome site. So please tolerate my silliness for a bit till I return to my boring self again.

well, nothing wrong with a lil hype...he made some nice catches...that jumping one...and the 4th down completions...but I feel you....until I see it versus the #1's....and isn't it convenient he's unavailable against the Broncos and that secondary....ahhh well...keep the hype...it'll raise up the other receivers games...I guarantee Tavon, Thomas, and Cooper will bring their "A" game vs KC....who also have some NICE db's....
You know football...and totality is the MOST important of the eye-tests....but, first impressions matter....that's how we've been conditioned as a society...you've studied for the exam (game), and you came out and did, what????? First impressions are often the lasting impression....It's what I remember about Tavon when he played with Sam Bradford...

While I agree I have to ask if you take the same stance with the opposite? Do you advise people to cool their jets after a guy has one bad game or series in the preseason?

Yes. Like those who are overly down on some of the other receivers not named Spruce. I think it's fine to be critical of a poor performance or excited about a good one when it comes to some of these young guys, but some can over react at times..Not that I'm immune to it.
I was very critical of the Coty signing and when he gave up that touchdown to Dez I was instantly feeling like I was like my opinion was proven correct.
Then I looked at it and saw that 1. Dez made a pretty damn good play 2. Coty shouldn't, and won't be put up against guys like Dez going forward and 3. I should try and keep a more open mind when it comes to what Coty can bring to the team. Even though I am still upset with the signing.

I heard that Nelson Spruce is working on a cure for cancer, helps old ladies cross the street and will give away all his salary to charity. And Mike Thomas doesn't like dogs.

Yes stay tuned....because I heard that Spruce was in the middle east brokering arms deals.
And I say why not get Hype on Spruce? He's only done it in college, all through camp, and now his first NFL game. So he's been consistently excellent for awhie. The only thing NOT consistent.....is the Rams other receivers. We all need a underdog hero.....so lets lighten up and have fun

Why "hype" a guy that comes in with the game on the line, makes 6 critical catches, 3 on 3rd down he converts to a 1st, one on 4th down he converts to a 1st, and a friggin TD. 5 of his 6 catches were CRITICAL to the game. How about the one over the middle thrown behind him and he goes up like an acrobat and grabs it BEHIND him? Who was the last Rams WR that had a series like that? I sure as hell can't remember. I've been waiting YEARS for Rams to bring in a guy like that.
