we chose to get rid of Rodney McLeod and sign Coty Sensabaugh. For a difference of about $2 million a year. I know they play different positions in the secondary but moves like this are reasons why we take 1 step forward and 1 step back. McLeod was a borderline top 10 safety in the league and the arrow was pointing up. Sensabaugh was benched and has been getting torched. I wonder if they could have saved $2 million a year somewhere else on the roster.

Should have just paid Jenkins, but the different position factor is major, however, at this point I would have signed anybody other then Coty Sensabaugh, who cannot cover a bed.

Wait WHAT????? he wasn't even close to a top 10 safety. he cant cover just like sensabaugh.

Any constructive answers? I think we gave away a really good player over what amounts to a backup DL contract. Frustrating to say the least. He wasn't Earl Thomas but was very similar.

no he isn't. 2015 ranks
Harrison Smith/MIN (92.8)

Tyrann Mathieu/ARI (91.6)

Malcolm Jenkins/PHI (89.8)

Earl Thomas/SEA (89.2)

Morgan Burnett/GB (88.5)

Patrick Chung/NE (88.4)

Eric Berry/KC (87.7)

Anthony Harris/MIN (87.0) (barely had enough snaps)

Devin McCourty/NE (86.6)

Ha-Ha Clinton Dix/GB (85.2)

He chose to be a FA. The Rams didn't "get rid of" him.

I never saw McLeod as a really good player. Personally, I'm more upset we lost Janoris. And more lamenting the fact that we didn't use Sensabaugh's money on a solid CB like Jerraud Powers.

Our safety play hasn't really been an issue. Mo is still learning how to play the position. He should get better at playing center-field the more he plays.

However, Sensabaugh was a mistake. I'd rather have a better CB there in case Gaines isn't ready to go.

You're assuming of course that McLeod wanted to resign with us. We don't know what he was offered and if he ever entertained the thought of coming back to the Rams. It's easy to blame the team for what happens in free agency but there are two sides to these deals and the players and agents get a lot of slack because it's so easy for Rams fans to blame the team without knowing any of the details of the negotiations.

McLeod's is an above-average safety. He definitely showed improvement in 2015, but he isn't worth the contract the Iggles paid for. We'll see how Jenkins plays down the road, 2 games is a small sample size but I heard he covered Dez consistently so that's kinda disappointing.

When you hear the article title "The Rams secondary is still a work in progress" in the 5th year of this regime-why are we always a work in progress every where except the Dline and Punter positions. Sorry if I sound like a negative Nanny but we were so close to having our Defense set after last year but we let both Jenk and McLeod walk.

Our secondary is a work in progress because for the first time in a long time, we had players that other teams deemed to be worth giving big contracts to in FA. We have to replace them. Will take some time for the new guys to get comfortable. Just about every team has to go through the same thing.

Sensabaugh sucks no will disagree there, but his contract is pay as you go and he is most likely gone after the year with little salary cap ramifications. He was really insurance for Gaines a guy the Rams really liked and expected to step in after the inevitable loss of Jenks or Tru.

Not a big PFF guy, but McLeod had a pretty good grade last year. This year he is 26. On the flip side Mo and TJ are 8 and 9 overall respectively.

Letting Mcleod go was all about Mo IMO. Mo has been the most versatile player on our d this year. Williams asks more of him than anyone on the defense. He plays center field, he plays halves, he plays in the box, he rushes the passer, they even used him to spy Rusell Wilson a bit. Mcleod wasn't nearly as versatile he eventually became a very good deep center high safety and could play nickel in a pinch

That is a reasonable answer-Thanks

He shut down Dez and Cooks and returned a blocked punt for a touchdown he is a big reason why their defense is ranked 2nd against the pass. McCleod has really solidified the Eagles backend too and its again a big reason why the Eagles are 2-0 not just Wentz and im sure the Steelers remember him too
