According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald isn’t considered a lock to show up their respective teams’ mandatory sessions this week.

The Rams have negotiated with Donald, and he could still show up. But while negotiating, it’s at least worth the threat of withholding services to prove a point, even if he appears.

Donald participated in offseason workouts and a voluntary minicamp in April, but was absent for all 10 organized team activity practices that concluded last week. General manager Les Snead has acknowledged that Donald stayed away because of his contract situation.

Offseason workouts and OTAs are voluntary, so Donald’s absences have not cost him a penny. Players under contract who skip minicamps are subject to up to $80,405 in fines if they miss all three days. Bell, because he’s not signed, faces no financial consequence if he doesn’t show.

Donald, the 13th pick in the 2014 draft, is scheduled to earn about $3.2 million in salary and bonuses this season. The Rams also have exercised a fifth-year option that would pay him about $6.9 million in 2018.

By NFL standards, that is a bargain for an interior defensive lineman who has amassed 28 sacks and created havoc for opposing offensive coordinators, offensive linemen and quarterbacks.

AD has me in a pickle. I DO think he deserves a big fat contract, but I also want him ready for the season. In this case, the Rams should hammer him financially if he doesn't show up for mandatory activities. I believe/hope he shows up because he doesn't seem to be "that guy" who holds out, because he wants to play as much as he wants to breathe...

Tony Pastoors and Kevin Demoff need to get to work and get this done. It's not good Rams need Donald out there. The Rams under Demoff have been good with contracts, however, been some hiccups as of late.

They totally messed up on Janoris Jenkins because they thought they had an "in" with Jenkins agent, who he fired and then the Rams never had a shot after that. Trumaine Johnson's situation has not been resolved and now Donald. I have stuck up plenty for Demoff, but it's time Kevin & Tony to either SHIT or get off the pot!

If he is absent from mandatory activities, it would indicate the two parties still aren't close on figuring this thing out. I'm beginning to question our front office because there seems to be a running theme of not getting deals ironed out.

Odell Beckham Jr showed up at Giants camp. Donald should show up to Rams camp. Both sides need to get this done.
There still a lot of time before training camp. We don't know how close or far apart they are. The rams have TruJo"s and Olgletree's contracts to figure out. Lot's of moving parts here.

Lately you are right on point, there has been no major contract they've had to deal with for a while and they extended Tavon without any issues and some feel they moved too fast in that regard. Let's get this done Gentlemen!

Why is it on the front office? Maybe Donald isn't being reasonable.
He's my favorite player on the team, its not even close.
He's arguably the best defensive player in the game.
But....
Detroit made the playoffs after losing Suh in free agency
Houston lost Watt for the year and their defense was still amongst the best in the game and they made the playoffs
If someone offers a monster trade for him, I'm listening

number one contract to sort out is AD's then the rest can fall into place like Trus and Trees if the team want to keep them around

i have this recurring thought in my head and i hate it ... but maybe they are worried how AD will fit into Wades D (i know ive read the stories and i personally think he will be a beast in the new D front ) but that horrible pessimistic voice that has been with me since the linehan spags fisher days that wont shut up ..and he keeps saying stupid shit lol

I'm right there with you. New DC and a whole new scheme -- don't want him falling behind on the learning curve. And if the holdout continues into training camp, it could be even more detrimental.

Donald needs to be on the practice field with his teammates
Demoff needs to get a new deal hammered out

While I'm all for any player getting everything they can get we don't know the details of the negotiations. It's really premature for anybody to criticize either side in this since we have exactly zero info on the negotiation details. One thing I don't like is a star on the team and supposed leader hasn't been around for any team activity at all under a new coaching staff. Not exactly leading by doing this IMO. Wade could make the guy an even bigger star and he's sitting at home. Disappointing on all sides really.

Not worried....and I understand why Demoff is taking his time. I also understand why Donald isn't here....

My only gripe would be, why not renegotiate immediately? I mean, the worse thing in this was to extend him. It just isn't operating in good faith. The guy produces, pay him....especially in light of what Tavon and Trumaine have already received. Quinn too. Brockers too...AD looks like a prideful type of guy....He wants what he deserves....and it would have had him out here so young guys know how HE works....

AD is till under contract for two more years. He should attend mandatory mini-camp. His agent can handle it. No reason for him to miss unless he plans on sitting out for 2 years if the Rams don't give him what he wants.

If you are a leader lead by example. Your under contract still, get your ass to mandatory Mimi camp and let the person you pay do his job.

Has anyone even heard If Donald is even back in town yet!!?!

Demoff sure is fucking up some big contracts. Overpaying tavon and tru, and then getting stingy with the best player on the team and the best defensive player in the league? Should have some of that tavon and tru money for donald, and quite frankly, if I had to choose between keeping both tavon and tru or donald, I wouldn't blink before making my decision.

And how much are they offering Donald?

I don't know so I guess I shouldn't say stingy, but I doubt they're overpaying him like the other 2. Maybe that set a bad example and Donalds agent is expecting another bloated offer.

If you're under contract to do a job, any job, then show up for work and do your job. Period. When you no longer have a contract to do a job, any job, then you don't have to show up for work. It really is that simple. Or at least it should be. Honor your word. The rewards will come...
