And it could be less. Fact is we don't know, that 5.3 is an estimate that's the only thing we know.
That's the least it can be, either way it will be within 100k either way. It's not a subjective increase, its based on performance factors that he easily achieved.
Also IIRC, it's not guaranteed. So yeah it could end up being included in an extension where his AAV could be less

Some all time Rams greats at RB and where they were drafted: 2nd overall, 10th overall, 2nd overall, 24th overall, 10th overall

So is Kyren our Lawrence McCutcheon or should we reach higher?

Right or wrong, I’m not excited if Kyren is the guy for the next few years.

Didn't have time to expand on my thoughts earlier when I posted James Cook's requests. I'd imagine Kyren's camp would be requesting something around the $12 million mark which seems to be a rough average of top RBs right now not named McCaffrey. My educated guess if they do a long term contract that he ends up in the $11mil per range.

That would be a terrible agent. If I'm Kyren's agent I'm starting negotiations asking for top of the market rates like Cook is doing.

Last 2 years of production:

KW: 2443 yards, 4.5 ypc, 26 TDs

Cook: 2131 yards, 4.8 ypc, 18 TDs

There's no way I would be asking for less than Cook. $15m is the ask.

My thinking was previous to this Cook's news... maybe they adjust now that this has come out idk. But McCaffrey is such an outlier and terrible contract that you'd think they'd start around the other RBs averages.

The market always goes up. That's the reason we'll see Purdy leapfrog other QBs and become somewhere close to the highest paid QB.

McCaffrey's contract was and still is an outlier. He signed for 4 years, $64m in 2020. At that time, the salary cap was $198m. It's gone up nearly 40% since then.

An equivalent contract today would be $22.2m. No one is asking for that demonstrating that McCaffrey's contract is being treated as an outlier.

But since the salary cap increases every year, you don't start with other RB (position) averages. You start at the top of the market to reflect the continual salary cap increases.

No fucking way I'd pay Kyren anything near what James Cooks is asking for. 9 mil at most.

Kamara and McCaffrey contracts are exactly why Cook wont see anything close to 15 mill
RB deals arent QB deals, they arent going up, they are going down. Saquon got 12 mill per, Jacobs 12 mill per and Henry 8 mill per.
I look at Kyren and realistically place him in the Conner range, 7 mill per and Conner fumbles as much as K-Will

Is Kyren that good ? What it shows is how badly the Bills F’d up against KC.

Salary wise - man that’s crazy how things spiral up.I know I had Williams on the fantasy teams the last 2 years.

He was a bargain & IMO The Rams need to read into players better. This is going to be a tough call.

EJ53 put pressure on The Rams & when a player out performs there contract they want to get paid. There’s a franchise tag & time you can lock a player up.

Agree - I’d try to redo his contract Now & make it a 3 year contract.Get that discount & him his security. I’d put in wave the franchise tag at the End of it ?

I’m not a contract guy,but common sense. I hate a player wave his contract over his head.Be straight & play ball. There’s no guarantee he stays on the grass or gets better ??

Have to add home silly was it not to lock Alaric & or Hoecht up ??
Same with Whiterspoon, but who knows what his worth is.

IMO The Rams stay in house at CB. That’s for a different post though.
Contracts are hard, but pay the players that earn it & spread the wealth.Keep building depth.

Patrick Queen vs. Johan Jackson ?? WTF -signing both he & Dotson.
Shelton should’ve been locked up.
for 2 seasons a long with Avila & Dotson. They had the base by using the draft to there advantage. Then again that window upfront is solid now.The bookends are the question.

Guys, he fumbled twice against Philly. He recovered one of them, but that still counts as a fumble.

I dont understand how he is still on the roster.

Am I making too big of a deal of his fumbles?

Was the Philly game not the most important game of the season?

What am I missing?

If Kyren is under contract for $5M in 2025, I’d just roll with that.

Does anyone really believe he’ll blow up in 2025 and be worth more than whatever we’re willing to offer him now? I don’t see it.

So… not sure I see much upside to extending him? If anything I’d consider trading him to reinvest in the position with cheap young legs. Rinse and repeat. Save the cap dollars for elsewhere.

Since this is the first time in awhile we don't have to draft a kicker or punter so we can always draft another RB until we hit it just right.
