Dude doesn't sound like the sharpest knife in the kitchen but how many OL are. I'm glad to have him and hope the new environment maybe helps things click. He has enough talent to help us on that depth chart.

I was listening to his interview that I posted before switching to the Merril Hoge video which showed some very good awareness in his blocking. He sounds like he is a smart guy. Laid back cool deep south (Mississippi) guy.

Apparently this guy was about to get cut. Guess we couldn't wait for that but a bad trade if so as far as compensation goes, but fuck it. Hope this trade works and welcome Dotson!
Not what I heard. I heard he didn't fit their blocking scheme, but was too good for an outright cut, hence the trade.

I just posted the article from CBS saying he was a likely cut candidate. I also hit up one of my hardcore Steelers fans friends and he was like good we got something for him because he was about to get cut. My friend's comments actually prompted me to find the CBS article.

I don't know. A CBS sportswriter saying he 'wasn't a lock' to make the Steelers' 53 is not comparable to 'Apparently this guy was about to get cut.'

EDIT: You're right, the dopey writer DID say he was 'likely to get cut' ... In the same short article where he said Dotson 'wasn't a lock.' Dude covered lots of bases. I wouldn't assume this writer knows much but you were correct that it was in the article.

Just because he’s cut doesn’t necessarily mean the Rams could pick him up, as a team ahead of them might pick him up. So for what they paid for him it was worth it in my estimation.
I'll say TBD on adding worth like any trade since I gotta give the guy a fair shake to see how he adds to the squad. If we suck and the Steelers have a good record, thats a huge gap from our 4th to their 5th so it wouldn't be that great a trade unless he pans out. A lot of unknown here obviously so TBD, just simply not a huge fan of the compensation.

If they were trying to trade him in a contract year, thats a good indication of getting cut in my opinion. Just saw your edit, but regardless, this guy is now a Ram. Hope he's better for us than he was for the Steelers.

Jake Ellenbogan's cousin covers the Steelers and is a Steelers homer and that's where what I said comes from.

I think the Rams valued him enough to give up the draft capital. He fits the pass pro the Rams like and has good size. Still young and can improve.

Agreed that the Rams think enough of him to do that trade. Wish it was something later than our 4th round pick sent for depth. Maybe a 5th or dare I say a 6th :laugh1:

How quickly can he realistically learn the playbook and be ready to contribute?
One week OL can adjust pretty quickly. Pretty much the assignment is On, Gap & Linebacker.
